Just a quick heads up for tomorrow's Aldi tools offers. I remember the topic was discussed before and the air tools available would be very useful for the DIY'er / home butcher. Got some of these last year and they've lasted very well considering the price. 3 year g'tee as well if I recall. Linky : www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/offers_week9thursday08.htmJB

Be aware, its a SPOT blasting gun. We had one just like that at my old workplace and it gives a work area the size of a 2p at best. Its reasonably effective at taking off paint or light surface rust etc, but don't expect to be blasting serious rust or corrosion on alloys for example.

Perfect timing, I think I'll get the ratchet and wrench and go to machine mart for the hoses etc..
Cant afford decent air tools atm but these will do for now.

The little blasting kit - anyone know if that would be a good tool for getting minor rust out of the seams of bonnets or boot lids?

Had the compressor about a year now. The exact same one as above (but with a yellow tank) and I bought it with the impact gun, ratchet and an air chisel kit they did. The hose with the compressot is long but a small bore - I was advised to change it to a shorter 10mm type. I did this and the ratchet and impact gun did work a lot better. Before this they wouldn't undo naff all. they also seemed to manage higher torques the more they were used - I don't know if they tend to 'bed in' or what.
I've used the air chisel to take tiles off a bathroom wall and a kitchen floor and it was super quick with no problems. I'll probably get the speed saw and the spot blaster. At £22 and £10 each they may not be hard as nails but they should do what I want.
If last year is anything to go by you will need to be outside as they open the doors or there'll be nowt left come lunch time.
Whatever you buy, let us know how it goes.

I have the compressor (yellow), air ratchet, airpray kit and gravity fed spray gun, along with a load of "accesories" as mentioned about the compressor is good but the hose needs changing. I'll probably get the drill and die grinder thanks for the heads up.

Jasonb, I've got one of the compressors as well but had problems with fitting different airtools to it? The connectors are different. I changed one of the connections (Mine has two) to a standard one from Machine Mart, and split the connection pipe!!!!! Fixed now, so I have one Aldi and one Machine Mart. Need to try the impact gun on my shorter hose as i have the same problem with undoing stuff!! Anything!!

I'm curious...
Have any of you guys tried spray painting with one of these compressors? What were the results like?
Oh, and I've found an equivalent (more or less) one in the Machine Mart book and its weighing in at around £120 odd...
If they're up to the job for spraying, then I reckon it might be worth a look...

Matt I used to have a similar sized compressor and it just coped with a big spray job. For panel work it's more than adequate though. As far as the price goes, OmegaWolf, the OEM don't even sell these at that price!! They're not bad bits of kit either as they're very quiet, (in compressor terms) and I've already had mine swapped out due to a broken manifold and duff motor with no quibbles from the manufacturer. (Occassionally you see job lots of busted tools for sale from OW on eBay.)

ive sprayed a fair bit with my compressor and gun i got with it.
2 rear sills and arches, front bumper, drivers door, front grille, random bits inside.
seems to cope pretty well, only bit it struggles with was the front bumper but that was probably my fault.

I would think that the outcome does not really depend on the part you spray, but rather the type of run you try doing, like a bus side versus a Mini door.
Sounds like this whole lot is worth going for, clearly only buy bits you will actually use.
Thanks for the headsup and reminder of how nice it is to spend.....

OmegaWolf are just up the road from me.... they occasionally have a clearout of catalogue returns and stuff, all recoditioned but not perfect. Even THEY aren't as low as £70! Seriously cheap stuff from Aldi.....

Just come back with a smile on my face and a spot blaster, 3 x speed saws, die grinder and a staple / nail gun. Waited outside for the doors to open with half a dozen blokes who went straight for the air tools! Spoke to a guy who uses them to keep a nice looking 'K' plate beetle and a Fiat camper in good nick and then there were a couple of other guys outside with a load of gear going into a tidy looking 'G' plate Audi 100. They seem to be popular with home mechanics.
The funny thing was, my local Aldi is having major building work undertaken. As we came out with trolleys full of the offers the builders were standing around wondering what was going on. As i was loading the car up a few guys in hard hats & hi-vis vests were going inside to grab some stuff of their own!
Let you know how it goes when I get home.
