I've had a few offers to buy my car over the years, but I could never sell it. I can't ever imagine letting it go, and fear that the bloody thing will be in my life forever. It's been a part of my life for six years, outlasting girlfriends, houses, career moves and going through all of lifes trials and tribulations with me. So... could you sell your car? Do you regularly change your car and move on to the next one once you've had your fun with it? Or is this a life-long companionship which will only end when one of you goes to the boneyard / scrapyard?

The plan is to stick with Madge and the Imps until I can get a place with a barn sized building. Then get more! No intention to sell anything - but, you never know what's around the corner.

Couldn't sell either of mine tbh and I've had a silly offer or two for the Firenza.
Too much blood, sweat, effort, money, swearing, fun, memories to ever get rid.

I don't think I'll ever be able to voluntarily part with the Oxford. It was my second car bought with the proceeds of my written off A35. I've driven it everywhere and in all conditions, on pointless trips and on very important journeys. I have done more miles in it than all its other owners combined. People have known me by the car before I've met them in person. I've broken it, fixed it, welded it, driven it and fixed it again. And again. Katie accepted my proposal while sitting in it. I drove away from my wedding in it. I brought my daughter home from hospital in it. It is part of me.

I've got 4 cars so far and haven't sold any yet! I can't see me ever selling the Charmant, I've wanted one for years and if I did sell it, I'd probably never have the opportunity to buy another. I also don't think I could sell the Mira as it was my first car, still amuses me to this day and I can't guarantee its safekeeping as despite its obscurity, it isn't really worth much to anyone but me.
The Avanzato and Galant I will probably sell on in the future, but only if I can guarantee they are going to a good home and won't just be thrashed to death and scrapped when the MOT runs out. If I can't, I'll probably just find somewhere to store them.
But hey, if you like your car, keep it! My mate has an Alfa 155 which he has owned for about 10 years. He recently wanted to upgrade to something a bit more exotic, but his wife wouldn't let him have two cars. This left him in an awkward situation, as though he really wanted a different car, that Alfa has been part of his life for so long that he wouldn't want to see it go. So he's had it resprayed for twice what the car is worth and is intending on keeping it for many more years to come, but I'm the only person he knows who doesn't think he is completely off his rocker for doing so!

I feel the same about my moggy, It took me long enough to find a suitable project, and even longer to get it how I wanted, so like the others I'll put it in a barn than sell it

Ive always been a buy, play, flog kinda person really but the 100A has got a nasty little grip so far....i cant see myself selling it volentarily. I hoping that seeing as its so small too, when i finally have money/space for a big ol' yank-tank, it wont need to go as i could park it behind a breeze-block or something LOL

The first car i had was a mini clubman estate. It was bought as a wreck and i did alot of work to it but it was only meant to last me for a year or so untill i found a good one. I found a good one (8,000 miles from new) and proceeded to strip it, renew anything it needed and build into the absolute dogs bits of a mini. The only thing it didnt need was anything to the bodywork because it was perfect. This was meant to last me for a long time but i got bored of it after a couple of years, sold it and bought a maxi to abuse. While i still had the maxi i needed a good car so i bought the mg maestro and did everything to it to make it last, but after a year or so realised its too modern for me, so i got another maxi. One maxi got sold to end its days at the glastonbury festival after i sold it to a hippy frend, and the other one got written off. I then bought a mk6 escort which i soon wrote off (thank F###) and got a mk2 granada, which got stolen. Now i have the lada which, to be honest, is everything i need in a car, so i plan to keep that for a looong time, but who knows whats going to happen lol.

Interesting thread. I have become less sentiMental recently, and let slip a clean (but boring) car, and one that was restored (with help from pops) from a bit of a wreck, and a rare piece of old tat. so i'm getting better. However We still have 6 and I'm in no rush to sell. despite all of em have no big hold (and had all of em less that 3yrs) on me really apart from being rare-not-ae86-drift, just a diverse bunch of cars. reckon i'd sell em all bar the MR2 if a 2 door v8 Granada was on the horizon along with a 5.7 1982 Trans am, and whatever she'd want for replacement of the Cortina. Niceone Benzboy I have just carved an ultimate plan(ish)! I guess theres gonna be a conveyor belt journey before...

I've owned well over twenty cars in my 12 years of driving and it used to be rare for me to keep a car longer than six months at one stage. To a certain extent, I'm still the same. Witness the Metro, Civic and Volvo not sticking around for very long at all and the H Van will be gone once it's running again, despite out exciting road trip.
But my 2CV? I'll never sell. Having restored her, worked on her, used her at my wedding, driven her 60,000 miles around the UK and Europe and used her as my daily car for the past seven years, I just couldn't ever consider selling her. In fact, I even dragged her out of her cosy garage for a trip out in the rain today because she's so nice to drive and I understand all of her foibles.

Do you regularly change your car and move on to the next one once you've had your fun with it? Yup. I guess I'll find something I'd like to stick with after some time and a few more cars, yea - but I can't stand limiting myself to one manufacturer/model/powertrain, I'd like to know and experience as much as possible I think once I've got a garage I'll have a 'keeper' and then whatever else as projects

I'm not allowed to sell the Humber, seriously. I've mentioned it occasionally as I'd sometimes like a change but Mrs Sniper says absolutely not.
Even if I mention that it will need some money spending at some stage, ideally a respray and some rechroming, neither of which will be cheap or add any value to the car, the answers, OK but we're not selling.
The others can come and go as and when I feel like it, she's not fussed although I think she'd prefer the Volvo to go!

Christ, a tough one.
I've never kept a car for more than 4 years. Moderns, that is. I had the Renault 10 for two years and finally had to let it go because I had nowhere to store it. I'm not one for doing stuff up for a profit - otherwise the Volvo would have long being sold on.
The Volvo I will keep for a long time, unless it is perilously expensive to restore \ keep going. It's got to the stage where I seriously need to consider body work over mechanicals. I am prepared to spend a hell of a lot of money on it, because to me it's worth it.
The only way the 121 would go anywhere is if another, in far better condition, to my exact spec, popped up at a price I couldn't ignore. As my ideal Amazon is a mixture of about 5 different models and tuners back catalogiues, it's safe to say it'll be knocking around for a while yet.

Cars are for buying, not selling. End of ;D (except for world war/debt/angry GF's who somehow managed to mean more to you than the car....last ones quite unlikely isn't it? ) Still got my 1st car (Escort) and don't think I could bring myself to sell the Superminx. Though I did once sell a Mk5 Cortina, never got it on the road but still wish I had it

Good question.
Up until last year all my classics have been daily drivers and were treated so. Bought, done up, used and abused.
With having a company car now i don´t have to worry about getting to work the next day so my attitude has changed a bit.
Plan on keeping the van and the Capri but you never know, if something better comes along (like an affordable E type) then who knows ;D

Well I thought it would be forever. But I've just sold my 318iS after several glorious years together. *sniff* Gotta be grown up about it though... it was just too small for someone with 2 kids, a smelly dog and a penchant for DIY and grotty-classic-car-rescue. Here's to the future!

I have always sold my cars (not the dailies) on when a reason presented itself..... like a career and country change, or my Anglia I sold to a guy who had pestered me for a year for it. Have always sold cars on for litteraly what they cost me (not the fuel and servicing costs, but basic buy it and get into shape costs) Strangely not bothered about profit from them.
However, always wanted a Yank like a '40 Ford DeLuxe or a '48 Fleetline 2 door Chev. These would be much more difficult to sell as they would be evolving projects.
The car I will be showing come New Year will fit that bill...... Build and rebuild over the years, always evolving, and I do suspect that it will keep me happy for a long time, so I will not be selling it on, unless something really stupid comes along, or someone offers me stupid money, which would mean starting all over again.
