Have never seemed to have quite found what i was looking for in a car so end up selling them on, usually at a massive loss to make room for the next dream car which then is not what i quite wanted. Finally had a big enough life shock to make me realise that it will never be what i want unless i stick with it and keep evolving it, usually been too busy building friends cars to get mine done. Very interesting thread to read other peoples views.

Not really ever intending to part with my VW Bug. Other cars of all shapes, sizes and marques will (hopefully) be owned and sold by me over the coming years, but the Bug's never going anywhere until either it dies or I do. ;D

If you work it out, I've gone through a car roughly every 8 months for the last 19 years. They come, they go. The only ones I've got attached to ended up stolen and crashed. My Mini has always repaid my efforts by breaking.
Usually, when I buy one, I've fixed in my head what I want to replace it with.

I kept the MK1 Sceptre for about 4 years, that's the longest I've had a car for... some of the 40-odd others only lasted a matter of weeks (or days, in the case of a Lada 1500 estate...)
The Anglia may be going in the new year, just can't be ar$$ed with it ATM...
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Had my Scimmie up for sale here and there, wasnt fussed if it sold TBH. If the right offer had come along she would have gone, I would have bitterly regretted it.........till the next car came along. In 25 years + of driving ive never owned a car more than 2 years, hardly ever made any money on them and Ive loved every sodding minute of it all. My current, dog eared, boat anchored old beast still puts a huge grin across my face. Its at those moments when some spotty herbert cant figure out why his souped up Euro sh*t heap cant out gun me and doesnt sound as good, I know I could never part with her. Then again, I am a car whore

also a car whore. always spend disposeable income on cars, so never been overly fussed on selling. never sold anything i've intended to keep though. There are 3 cars in my possession I won't sell, unless I get offered tens of thousands. Which wont happen

yes, I could probably sell mine, its reliability is making it harder, but there are justs so many cool cars out there that it seems a shame not to progress through at least a few of them.

I was having this conversation the other day with a friend. Do people actually fall in love with a car? Interesting one to think about.

I've always been a complete car whore too, I've lost count of how many cars have passed through my hands over the years, some i'd only keep for a couple of weeks. Last couple of years I've slowed down a bit though, I've only had 4, and two of them I've still got!

Once a car whore always a car whore ;D I've calmed down on the purchasing, kept the fleet at 8 for a while now but storage is a nightmare - and not enough time to keep 'em all in use is starting to get to me sub-consciously - I reckon I'll hang onto them as long as I can, until I can get the owner of the WWII ambulance to accept my offer... oh and that arcadienne and the dauphine and that Opel GT I saw and the Justy 4X4 etc... etc... Bum! Must go buy a farm!!!!

Do people actually fall in love with a car? Definitely, but not in a sexual or physical way! Not in my case anyhow! But you do become emotionally attached to certain cars - Seth's comments about his daughter and the accompanying photo says it all, and almost had me blubbing! Then again, I am a soft southern git!

I said I'd never sell my white FD Victor. But I did. Owned it ten years. Spent saeveral times more on it than I sold it for. Regretted it ever since.
I kinda wonder if I did the right thing sellign my Ventora. I said it would never be sold and I sold it when I got frustrated with it. I owned it 14-15 years I think - a long time to own a car.
Said I'd never sell loads of stuff I have sold in the end. Reality presses in on you in the end.
I have been hauling my grandads old Capri from lockup to lockup for 15 years now with it off the road the whole tilme - sentimental value I can;t part with it, but hell I've done nothing with it in a decade and half except spend money storing the useless thing.
I will "never" sell my Buick, although I did have it up for sale once.

I just seem to collect them, my car total reached 10 this week without selling one. I have unlimited storage, but I will be looking to get rid of a few spares cars kicking around when I have the time. I have one main car in my BMW e21 which I'll never sell. A lot of cars have come along just because it isn't on the road. One was an e30 318i but that needs a lot of attention or scrapping after it went wrong, then I picked up an e30 318is last week and I'll probably sell it when my e21 is back on the road.

I buy and sell a fair few and my current dailys (modern cars that don't fit in here) are great but one day they'll go. The 190E is different though: I've had spells where I've considered selling it (and I turned down a very healthy £2350 offer for it about 4 years ago) but it'd be like selling one of the family. I've sort of promised it to my lad when he's 25 (just 11 years to go) and even though I hardly ever use it I just love the thing.

I've gone through 8 cars in the 5 or so years I've been driving and never kept one for more than a year. So no. I think the reason is I always find something wrong with cars I buy so I just end up always searching for the perfect car, which I'm never going to find for the money I'm spending. I like doing this though, it's fun to compare all the different cars. Next swap planned is Cappuccino to 90s yank, possibly with a viva in the middle/alongside.
