Had a mk2 mondeo which gaffa tape bumpers was the correct etiquette. sniffpetrol.com/2014/12/09/ford-announces-mondeo-gaffer-edition/Had it for 6 months until the mot ran out, had 270k on it, was thoroughly rusted and worn out. Still only cost me 275 including half a tank of petrol and weighed in for 90. Was completely reliable whilst i had it, but major structural rust. Shame as it was top spec ghia and was quite nice even on its last legs.

Are they having a giraffe? £2,700/£2,650 for that POS?! I wouldn't want to give even a tenth of that.

Gaffer tape always reminds me of my sisters first car a viva HC bought for £300 of one of my school mates brothers My dad bought it home and after a few weeks found out the whole rear lower valence which was under sealed Was basically just thick gaffer tape…and said mates brother disappeared !

I used it to hold a windscreen seal in when the glass company used a non-original seal on the discovery which never fitted. Later upgraded it to speed tape as the windscreen company denied all knowledge and getting a new one to do myself was $$$. This on the 2nd or 3rd fitting of the screen as it leaked. Not a company I'll ever use again.

Indeed. The car's MOT expired in August, has 162,000+ miles, and the MOT history makes for interesting reading; it's pretty much scrap!
Why anyone would bother advertising it in Car and Classic is incredulous...

I used to have an old E class that had a worn anti roll bar, not the bushes but the bar itself. Every year before MOT I wound gaffa tape around the bar to take the slop out of it, eventually I swapped in a new bar.... 6 years later.

I’ve never used gaffer tape but I did once fix the wipers on my Renault 18 with a condom 😂

Those who remember my Amazon from the early days may recall the tops of the wings above the headlights being gaffer taped due to the rust, and at one point, a rear wheel arch was held together with gaffer tape. It kept the MOT man happy until those areas were sorted properly.

Are they having a giraffe? £2,700/£2,650 for that POS?! I wouldn't want to give even a tenth of that. if you had two new front wings and rear arches - not easy to find at all, it surely wouldn't be that bad? mind you, i would need to take a look underneath first though. In it's day it was almost the holy grail of cars due to it's power to weight and performance compared to everything else at the time. The whole xr3i/5gt-turbo/astraGTE/Cav-gs2000/sierra cosworth/205gti era meant these totally slipped under the radar, along with the list price at the time, which was also a contributing factor. The awkward looking and dull performing del-sol finished the name completely. A factory CRX would still run rings around most of the modified stuff everyone had at the time. Just like the mini, a wheel as far as you can put on each corner. Even a grand is still too much though! Would probably get more by parking it in a muddy field and ripping off the gaffa ...

Guilty on my daily. My SLK's front bumper had a crack in it, and then I hit some debris in the road (it was dark and I didn't see it til it was too late) which made quite a hole in the front spoiler. Given that Mercedes bumpers for the SLK are £609 + Vodka and Tonic, I had to wait a while until I could afford to get it fixed. Secondhand ones were a non-starter as they were usually about £400, always 200 miles away, and were often damaged anyway. I drilled holes in the end of the cracks and made it more "aerodynamic" by using black gaffer tape. Good enough for the BTCC, good enough for my Merc!! It was on there for 15 months... The offending hole...

That CRX is impressively rotten, the way that JDM and retro Honda prices are though, it will likely find a home. I had to use some on my Corolla when the front splitter decided to fall apart on a French motorway while heading to the nurburgring 😅 It held together for a month or two before I took the bumper off and effected a more permanent repair with fibreglass

Do exactly this on one of the neighbours X type Jag and have been doing so for nearly 10 years come MOT time. Think the same era Mondeos suffered with it too.

To be fair, good marketing perhaps as how many people across forums have now viewed the website and other vehicles for sale?! Maybe not so daft!
