Apologies for the lack of updates it's been sitting while Dad and I get our backsides in gear and order a radiator. It arrived and by some miracle just fitted nicely to the frame we'd made! It was a cheap one from Czech Republic so hopefully doesn't come back to bite us, advert stated for a high boy 32 Ford with a 350 Chevy engine so should keep it plenty cool I hope! Grille shell needs some clearance adding but here are pics. Looks mint and just needs hoses, next up power steering lines! Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations for companies/people who can make them for me? Just need the high pressure side, but a smart return would look good too. Cheers, Braithwaite. Good progress. Re the power steering lines, I would have a Google for hydraulic companies local to you. Find a good one and they are so useful. Eg my local one is Corby Hose and Hydraulic, great for all-sorts of bits.
Look up Guy Davenport On Rods and Sods, very helpful, works for a hydraulic company in Leicester and posts UK wide.

It's a banjo fitting then threaded one into the rack, no idea on size etc. So may cut this one up to make what I want into a physical template to then visit somewhere and get them to make it. I apologise for how slow the progress is at the moment, mojo and headspace are lacking and it's a case of do a bit, buy some bits, do a bit etc. etc. Anyway! First side of the radiator plumbed in, the metal joiners are too long so I've ordered some slightly shorter ones but these elbows and straight pipes helped me work out the other side so hopefully shouldn't be too much of a headache. Definitely going to plug Auto Silicone Hoses, while the shipping is a bit steep the product quality and vast catalogue of parts balance that out. Will be using them for the rest of the plumbing from now on. It also turns out having multiple curse word boxes in your possession means you can pillage parts for one from the other! Hot Rod needs a heater and Yellow Peril the V8 Ital doesn't need to stock one as the space it occupies will be filled with BALD EAGLE FREEDOMS. So I kindly donated it to my brothers car. I've added deeper brackets so it clears the bulkhead but otherwise is as was! That's all I have for the moment, apologies! Braithwaite

Not sure what size your rad hoses are, but I have a box of 35-45mm Mikalor band clamps sitting around collecting dust in case you need some!

I'll have to measure up but thank you very much, I think the ID on this is between 35-45 so might work on some of it, otherwise I'll buy some nice ones when I'm buying the hose for the heater.

So I've really been slacking but another box of goodies came from Auto Silicone Hoses so now the rad is all connected to the engine (bar clamps ofc). A few elbows were needed and space on the drivers side is a bit snug but it clears everything and doesn't look too shabby! Back to the heater today I made up a lid as a start for mounting the fan, it'll be similar to the original but with different inlet location and less of the water drain as I'll be feeding the cold air from somewhere else, yet to be decided. Hello my name is Tom and I suffer from bouts of being lazy and not arsed with projects hahaha. I also found that having multiple projects lends itself to solving problems. I forced myself into doing something and then go into the swing of things and have now mounted the heater fan in this creation: That's Ital heater box, Marina air filter housing and motor and some sheet metal I shaped through bending and shrinking to make an adaptor donut to allow me to weld it all together. These are the parts pre-welding: Pretty pleased with this, will open up the sides for a better inlet diameter and then work out a way to ram the air in. Hope to get it mounted soon so I can work out the plumbing and get the engine water proofed. I've also not done a YouTube video for a couple of months so need to get back on that too! It's been a hot minute since the last update! This project seems to be a winter months thing as during the summer I'm at shows and doing outdoors stuff so don't get to spend much time on this, oh and my only Snap On tool, the air saw, went up the swanny so couldn't cut the bulk head for the heater... but I managed to drill the holes and make a start on the cut out for the heater matrix pipes. While twiddling my thumbs I got on with the next plumbing job which is the power steering, another thing traditional Hot Rods tend to lack and another over complication I didn't need but 'somebody' requested, not naming any names... Anyway, started with looking at how to return the oil first, no point sending it somewhere if it won't get back! Using the original hard lines but cutting them up and turning the joints to make a template pipe, I need to get the right flaring kit to make my own out of something a bit nicer like stainless but I could at least visualise the run. I took the fact the return line was excessively long as a way of cooling the oil on it's return journey, so decided the air gap under the rad was an ideal place to line the pipes up so any air going through it was going to whizz past taking some heat with it. I'm hoping because the car now weighs two fifths of eff all the system won't need to work so hard. First port of call was add some box to the rad frame with rivnuts for P clips: Then I ran out of bloody P clips!! So ordered 3 different sizes, 50 of each... here's how they arrived: Yeah cheers for that.... Next I cut up the high pressure side and googling the fittings to see if I'd need it making or if there was a way I could make it all new and safe. There are plenty of places that do adaptors and all sorts but Earl's looks to be the place I'll be going, while not the cheapest it'll be the easiest and serves as a test for when I get round to the Ital. Not quite how I want to run it but didn't want to cut the hose at this stage, however will probably tweak this mock up to get it perfect. Slow progress is better than none! Also looks so good, new phone does wide angle so I can get better photos in the shed! I should really do a big fat write up of the Beetle too as that should give many an insight into my terrible decision making skills... I'm enjoying this thread. Not because I like the hot rod build but because I get to learn about the grubby bits under my Sorrento lol
Its a great build really, something different.
I use Torques UK for hose fittings etc. Worth a look.

Basing it on something modern(ish), and keeping all the niceties will hopefully mean that once built it gets plenty of use just by virtue of being quite easy and practical to drive! That's the plan, no point building it if it's not going to be driven, and we're not bothered about a traditional feel, mainly because if you've ever driven a traditional HotRod they are awful hahaha!

While not much has happened in the shed... I've had someone come up with a sticker design to compliment this build, if there's enough interest I'll probably get a batch made. This was a joke that snowballed into a real thing and Dan approves and it's his car so that's a win!
