Well I've been a bit lax on this thread but finally have some progress, the water system is connected, needs adjustments as not happy with one of the hose routings, but the water shouldn't leak on the floor now.    The IVA book states that all hoses and wires need to be secured to the car every 300mm or less, these hoses needed mounting to help with routing it all, still some finishing work to do, but I wasn't about to just slap some basic rectangle brackets on this bulkhead so made a decorative but function inner bonnet panel. This will be covered up when the bonnet sides are fitted but it just gave a nicer finish than bits of box section or something. I need to add a couple more on the horizontal plane as I'm a little over 300 from the heater port to the side panel but that's no bother. Auto Silicone Hoses have been exceptional (at emptying my wallet) and their product range is ridiculously vast.  I can't recall if I said or not, but some burk put the bulkhead in the way of the outlet on the engine so it needed a hole cutting out and will need a curved panel making to go around said hose. Next job I reckon will be power steering lines, getting that system plumbed in then moving onto the exhaust which I'm really looking forward to and will soon probably hate doing haha! Just to clarify - the BIVA book states 300mm or less for brake & fuel pipes ONLY. No specs for any other pipes/hoses.
As for wiring - no specs for that except it should be secured well (which is sensible).

Now that we've all got those puns out our system I have some small progress on this but in the next few weeks hope to have finally pushed on with it again.   There was a need for a bracket to support the first fuel line I had made up (needs flares adding once I have the right tool). I have yet to weld it to that frame but the mood took me to make an excessively fancy bracket. I love speed holes and they add horsepower, everyone knows this. It's made me realise I need more hole punches as they make the edge that bit nicer than a drilled hole. Also fitted a bleed screw into the cooling/heater plumbing near the matrix so should be a good insurance policy against any air locks. Cheers, Braithwaite. |

Yeah would be nice to see that done with some dimple dies, then it adds some strength too, although that piece isn't exactly going to be stressed where it is.

I did 3D print a dimple die a specific size once for doing some Ali work and it was surprisingly successful, have yet to try it on steel but that may be a future experiment! |

Like you say mate, if it was in need of strength I'd have definitely found a way to dimple the holes. |

May I suggest that you add a little more rubber to that fuel line perhaps up to just below your new clip, as a diesel engine on production mounts it will move around quite a lot and the hose will need a little more flex and ideally a bend in it to avoid it being stressed.

Just reminded me that I saw a similar project at a show earlier this year - only it was all Mercedes. From what i remember it was a G-Wagen chassis and a 400something hp AMG motor. Really just looked stock from the outside. Only the modern interior gave it away.  |
