I’ve got to say I struggle to tolerate AvE. I don’t know what his background is and he obviously knows a bit about engineering, but I find his complete lack of regard (or understanding?) for the limitations of volume production completely unbearable. Stuff costs what it costs and it’s built to a price. That’s how it is. He needs to get over that. But couple it with his regular racist and feminist digs disguised by “I work with everybody and hate all of them” and I got a bit fed up with it after a while.

I started watching for the tool reviews more than anything, purely because it gives a good ‘level’ as to what is normal in a mass produced tool, and what manufacturers are going the extra mile (or cutting corners). I agree his expectations are probably too high in a lot of things, but then he’ll go test/investigate further the suspected weak areas to see see if they are likely to cause issues or not. I’ve not noticed any racism tbh, although there was a dodgy comment about 16 year old girls the other day I was rather uncomfortable with. I Guess I’ve not seen the right (or should that be wrong) ones to catch a lot of that. I just liked to see someone going to the lengths he does to test if a grease is graphite or molybdenum, and see if a plastic is fit for its specific application rather than just condemning in it all as ‘plastic curse word’ like so many do.

I largely watch history related stuff which isn’t really relevant, but I also watch some amateur engineering type things. I tend to favour people I might actually learn something from, in a ‘background knowledge that has practical applications’ type of way, so- BOLTR/AvE bigclivedotcom (also has an excellent sideline in carbonating drinks that should not be carbonated) Lockpickinglawyer And I can proably even shoehorn in Tom Scott. If we are going down that route... doubleboost - Northern english guy, mechanic by trade, making stuff in his home workshop and sometimes playing with steam engines Steve Summers - high precision in everything he does, even rebuilding his workshop as it was falling down into a stream. Laura Kampf - German maker and artist SV Seeker - Building a huge Junk rigged sailing ship in his back yard. hand Tool Rescue - Repairing / restoring old tools, with great production. Xyla Foxlin - Mechantonic engineer working in a small workshop, everything from building rockets, wooden canoes, and she even made a wooden corset. This Old Tony - just because he is probably one of the best non-serious machining channels out there bcbloc02 - Heavy machining, and some automotive content in the form of diesel tractor pulling engine building. Abomb69 - Gone a bit off recently for me, but some of his machining videos are really good. I feel like I have gained a lot of knowledge from him considering I have never run a mill or lathe... I am the same, can't stand AvE, just can't see the appeal. The overly affected language gets to me.

Some really good suggestions here, many of which I already watch but I cannot believe no-one has mentioned Pakistani Truck. Some of the repairs these guys carry out with basic tools never ceases to amaze me and their absolute disregard of even the most basic health and safety precautions is frankly epic.

Cold War Motors. It looks like Fargo, but with old cars, but the guys have some mad skills and some very interesting old cars between them.

UpBuild is an enjoyable watch. Replacing or modifying pretty much every panel on a Mk3 Mini to turn it into a Mk1. Tom

I think looking through here most of my usual ones have been covered, but I'll reiterate for good measure First are YT creators from here! I've seen Tools and Track mentioned ToolsnTrack makes some great content about a few different projects, and added bonus (or perhaps reason for subtitles if you're American .) all with a Scottish accent. Alex Crosse - Great skills, entertaining creator and awesome car! Me- Ready Sheddy No! I feel like a bit of an imposter grouping myself with the above, but episode by episode it's getting better I think Now for some general relevant ones: This Old Tony - a real favorite, not car related directly but great entertainment if you like machining and welding. 6061.com - again not cars directly but an unbelievable aluminium welding and fab wizard. Car throttle - Used to find them irritating, now enjoyable! Hoonigan - Loud Americans doing burn outs, lots of interesting metal though if that's your thing Vice grip garage - mentioned before, I guess a bit of a replacement for the void roadkill left. Stanceworks - Ferrari build is cool. Urchfab - The mx5/100e (mongrel) is very cool The Skid Factory - Another favorite, like a grown up might car mods. Some slightly more wildcard entries: Alec Steele - Very enthusiastic Englishman forges things, often from Damascus, results are usually incredible. Jimmy Broadbent - lots of sim racing content which is entertaining but recently documenting the path into motorsport led my his YT streaming success, stays humble and enthusiastic. Good watch. Joshua Weissman - cooking.. If that's your thing.

Anyone watch the Freedom 500 with Vice Grip and David Frieburger? VGG made it his mission to try and trade as much paint as possible with DF. Very entertaining to watch.

Juiceboxforyou is excellent in my opinion, Irish guys restoring an AE86 but also interspersed with arsing around, features of other cool JDM cars, travelling to Gatebil and lately they've been doing their second series on going to Japan and trying to absorb as much of the car culture there as possible This a thousand times over! Love them. Japan in a van as mentioned above is epic as well! My fave ever quote 'That was a good bang of de tek lad' Oh and Taylor Ray. Just nice to watch some real people not being fake and doing what they love.

One of the things about the Japan in a Van series for me is how well it's all filmed and edited, looks very professional for a few lads with a camera. That and they had pretty much the perfect Japan trip for anyone into JDM 😁
Another channel I forgot to mention is DannyDC2, not a huge amount of retro content but followed his DC2 Integra and E46 M3 track cars and more recently his foray into racing with an MR2 plus a whole lot else besides. He can really drive and isn't one of those annoyingly over enthusiastic YouTubers

Not a car related one, but Photonicinduction has recently started uploading again after a few years' absence - he's an electrical engineer based in Kent and does all sorts of mad science experiments, but patiently informs the viewer exactly what he's doing and how it all works..

COLD WAR MOTORS
I'm up early every Sunday morning so I can watch the new episode before the family get up.
It's an alluring mix of bodgery and stunning restoration (and pi$$-taking).

I quite like the translator. My Russian is a bit sketchy so I need him…..
Staying with the bonkers, how about… Mastermilo and his tank restoration (absolutely barking) Or….. our very own nutter from East Anglia, Colin Furze

Salvage rebuilds is a great channel I wish I didn’t find the presenter guy so annoying. It’s always coming up on my recommended list and so interesting looking things going on. Watched one episode but only so much “at the end of the day” I could take… I have been watching Ed China despite also feeling like some jobs are being unnecessary dragged out. Eg Range Rover…you know the fuel lines are shot and gonna have be replaced, so why p!ss about plugging in an airline to see exactly where the hole is!!! Soup classic motoring I’m up to date with
