This is great thread and better than YouTube's own recommend algorithm. Many for me to check out so thanks. Interesting to see how many people are into the same sorts of things as me. I'll do a list and try not to care too much about repetition. === Car channels:Retro Rides TV: It's great. You should watch, like and comment. Mighty Car Mods: The OG fun car show. Massively Influential.Because they're still fun even after all this time. Lovely dudes, especially Marty. Sarah 'n Tuned: Ex US services trans person does amazingly detailed work on Subarus, MR2s, Audis, Ford Focus, other tin. Hugely polished work she does and a lot of fun to boot. Noriyaro: Aussie national lives in Japan and reports on Drifting and other JDM things. Super insight into that scene. Check out the vid where they put plastic pipes over the rear tires of little fwd kei cars - it's a hoot. Oh and the famous 'Dajiban' dodge-van racers. Soup Classic Car Motoring: George's stop motion restoration shots are unique and brilliant, and his wry, chilled presentation is always a complete treat whether it's an Esprit, Sprinter Surf van or care-worn berlin taxi that's being cared for. Electric Classic Cars. Based in Wales, they're ramping up their video frequency and production values of late — seeing nice old tin (Landys, Beetles, Alfas, BMWs) being re-invigorated with Tesla power is food for thought about the way things are going. Edd China's Workshop Diaries has merit but is patchy. When he's with just with one friend wrenching it's really low-stakes visual valium, but some of the shows with 10 people all scurrying over a range-rover chassis like ants was more fun for them than the viewer. It's definitely a sort of half-way house between TV and YouTube and the sooner he loses the artificial contrivances of TV-land (fake jeopardy, compilation shows, letters from viewers, cliff-hanger endings,) and just sticks to the zen of (vehicle) maintenance the better. And Binky. Binky Binky binky binky escargot binky makethenoise bracket-making get-the-funk-out binky. === Model Car RelatedDiecast Resurrection. Man in Canuckistan (canada) does hotwheels and matchbox customs - expert painter and wry and silly observations while he does it. Sideways King 75 - Man in UK turns little 1:43 die-cast cars into mini rally/racing masterpieces with plasticard, custom paint and decals. Super satisfying and low-key amusing. 3D Botmaker. Imagine if you had all the hype and production values of a real F1/Indycar/Nascar TV racing special then condensed that down to work with diecast cars on a downhill gravity track. Has to be seen to be believed. So much fun - the commentary, the back-story of the drivers and teams. Ace. === Wrenching / creative but not cars:This Old Tony has the driest sense of humour and the editing skills to match of anyone on YT. The fact I can watch a hour of him machining a piece of metal into an interesting shape says a lot about the quality and magnetism of his content. Frank Howarth. Lovely things made on a lathe or CNC from wood. Lovely Guy. Sunday Viewing. Simone Giertz. She made a pickup Tesla three, but specialises in the 'maker' sphere - lots of fun/oddball projects that somehow don't quite hide her clear skills. SteadyCraftin w. The Craf'sman. This guy makes injection moulded toys, kit-bashes, does music and animations too - a real renaissance man of shed-based hobbies, and had the most chilled sweet and positive Creole-voiced presentation style you could ever want. It's like a bedtime story with props. === Workshop / Restoration / 'satisfying' (not cars)
If you want to spend time with what's essentially tool-p0rn, then there a lots of great channels where the format is essentially 'get rusty tool (simple hand tool or massively complex thing with cogs) from salvage yard, disassemble it, sandblast it then restore it to a jewel-like level of finish better than it ever was in the first place. I love watching these in bed, and there are lots. Best is MyMechanics, but there's also TysyTube, LADB Restoration. Hand Tool Rescue, Mister Patina and Cool Again Restoration. Of course, with all this, ♫🎵♫ Why Don't you just switch off your YouTube Set and go out into the garage and do something more important instead.... ♫🎵♫

Recently I've been watching curious cars. Started out a few years ago as a sales platform for Florida car dealer who gets some interesting stuff in but has developed into a used car review show which contains some weird and wonderful stuff. It's nice to get up close and look at some of the classics that come through and Bill has quite a dry sense of humour which I quite like. It's quite talky but the history of the cars and companies who make them is well covered.

Bearing in mind the channel has 1.5m+ subscribers, I'm surprised B is for Build hasn't been mentioned. What they build is actually not at all my cup of tea (typically looking like the product of a 12-year old's dreams), it's not very technically in-depth (which is fine by me) and I'm sure loads of people with way more mechanical knowledge than me would be spluttering their tea over the screen. The presenter's cap is always backwards too. Retro-wise, they've only done a 240Z and a Mustang that I can recall and there's a Fast and Furious tone to everything. However, it's well produced, the presenter Chris comes across well and, well, it's more fun to watch than lots of other things. They're in Portland too (where a mate of mine now lives) so there's a bit of interest in that too. At the moment they're finishing up on a R34 skyline shell mated to a R35 chassis and running gear having just (kinda) finished an off-road Huracan. Model car wise, there's the Jakarta Diecast Project. I've never watched a full episode but the skills look mind-blowing. Also Marty's Matchbox Makeovers. I went through a few weeks of waking in the middle of the night a few years ago and found this ideal to watch with subs to get back to sleep. A ringing endorsement?!

Some great shows in here. Apologies if I missed these mentioned:
Motor Addicts - These guys need more attention I reckon, 'grass roots' UK cars and the lads seem to have a great laugh doing what they do.
Officially Gassed - Jamie's channel is doing really well these days, covers everything from big power exotics to home built retros (some really excellent cars have been on).
Rob Dahm - Rotaries baby! Everything up to and including a one off AWD 4rotor FD.
runningfree86 - One of the most entertaining drivers to watch I've ever come across. This guy can hussle, and he repairs/modifies his gorgeous red AE86 at home. This is drifting at it's best in my opinion; aggressive, balanced and all fancy footwork.
Cletus MacFarlane - Haven't watched in a while but to see this guy and his crew go from where they started to where they got to (buying their own race track and running events etc) is heart warming. Big power, big V8 turbos and lots of drag racing/burn outs.

It’s maybe been mentioned but I’ve been watching 2StrokeStuffing, hugely talented Norwegian bloke scratch building a two stroke in his shed in attempt to make it the highest bhp per capacity ever.

I've found Hot Rod Hoarder quite interesting, and Mad Fabricators TV had decent series on a Model T show car recreation both watchable rather than compulsive viewing.

SKIDMARK is really good, he started with a Jag V12 power mgb gt which morphed into a ecotec mgb. Then restored a late 60’s Chevy Suburban and is now building a 67 Camaro. Very good watch.
