W126 Mercedes. 500SEL or 560SEL. Must be fully loaded and have a velour interior with the stripey bolsters: Upsettingly I missed the boat on them when they were cheap... I had a 420SE, about 6 years ago. They are fantastically capable cars but, for me, they are soulless. Horses for courses and all that. I have a space in the garage and I am looking for something, not sure what though. I do quite fancy one of these. Prices are very reasonable and it would sit well with my Firebird, perhaps. I have also spotted one of these for sale... The price is very right and insurance, having done the comparing ( didn't bother getting classic car insurance quotes ) could put me in the car for under £130 fully comp. Tempting. Regards the jag, my Dad did very well for himself & he had 4 of these as company cars through the 80’s & into the 90’s, but the one I remember most was a H reg in 1990. I had just bought a 3 bedroom house with a single garage & it was £42k. My Dads company jag with all the extras was..... guess what £42k 🙈

From the experience with my E90 330i, I have regretted not waiting for a 330i Touring in SE spec, difficult to find. So I've got a hankering for an E39 540i, de-badged and running on some stock wheels for a real sleeper look... It would probably ruin me as much as the XJS to be fair.

I have eyes for both a Farina bodied A60(any variant from the Austin/Morris/Riley/Wolseley stables) or a LHD Range Rover Classic preferably a 2dr but prices starting to go mental for the earlier models right now!

Alfa Romeo 155 V6, Vectra v6 supertouring, some form of Nissan stagea whether that's 2 or 4 wheel drive - too many options out there, just anything even remotely more interesting than what I have (2010 boring hatchback)

So I've got a hankering for an E39 540i, de-badged and running on some stock wheels for a real sleeper look... It would probably ruin me as much as the XJS to be fair. You better have deep pockets! E39 540is Tourings have been pricey for quite some time now. As in near M5 money. That said, they are a lovely thing. It wouldn't be as bad as an XJS and better quality parts are available unlike the XJS ; getting level springs is near impossible now for the XJS, and early ones have serious parts issues ; a friend's 1980 V12 was off the road as he couldn't find a brake master cylinder for it; Rimmers, SNG Barrett etc. were/are all aware ; a friend having a seal kit and his unit being salvageable got him out of trouble however. I've seen a lovely E39 530d Touring I've been tempted with for not alot of cash. But to have one BMW is foolish. To have two... E92 330is still seem to be sensible, albeit the 335i Tourings hold their money very very well. Time has not helped there. I do have something on my radar, but it's not quite the same .

I'd love an E34 M5 touring for example, but they are now well beyond my reach at this point in time, in addition to being very rare ; an E34 540i Touring I simply can't justify the price on when the aforementioned E39 is a great car which ticks as many boxes (if not more) and is still cheaper; if they can be called that. An E-Type would also be lovely in a V12 drop top format. Earlier on this year, I gave buying a BMW 1602 alot of thought ; a couple came online for what seemed like sensible money: Now, where's my lottery win? OK, maybe I lied. Not quite retro then. After sampling a friend's Audi C6 RS6 Avant, the pace is very addictive and the car cocoons you! E61 M5 is one car I've really wanted to scratch the itch on. Brave pills may be required. Not many cars have such an awesome soundtrack . Anyway, I'm going on a bit and sounding like a broken record. I do have things on my radar, but they are upgrades/tailoring for the M3. I've never truly finished a project ; it can't be done, but at least we can try to get as close as we can .

Ok, it’s a quirky desire, has to be in this colour, diesel or vvc conversion...

I am thinking about another motor for next year and fairly open minded at the moment possibly classic , retro I might even go "newish" but it would have to be "different" but that narrows it down a fair bit I know of a very nice Buggy that I might be able to buy but been there done all that, maybe time to try something I haven't already owned I quite fancy the idea of a Volvo PV544, anyone had one ? please feel free to throw some ideas my way

Having inpure thoughts about one of these...cheap enough, quirky, mid engined RWD Mercedes... I'm not a proud man. I'm biased of course but an excellent choice that only a person with a degree of lunacy would consider...Hold those inpure thoughts. Sticking with the rear engine theme I've always had a soft spot for an X19

Having just seen a pic of the dash on a Lancia Trevi I now want one.. My old man had one in silver. I remember as a young lad being mesmerized by the dash when it was illuminated at night. Mostly by fibre optics too. Very advanced for its time.

Sticking with the rear engine theme I've always had a soft spot for an X19 I tested a couple last weekend...one drove really nicely but the roof was held on with cable ties and wood, had shonky HIDs and the passenger door didn't open...and when I fished a used face mask out of the pond behind the driver's seat in test drive number two I walked away without even turning the key. The right one will be a great laugh I'm sure tho!

I've got a bit of a hankering for one of these... A Bentley GT, I've fancied one since before they came out, and I'm wondering how much cheaper they'll get before I have the nerve to empty my bank account.

I’ve seen a Bentley GT advertised for as little as £15K that’s cheap for a car like that but I would worry about repair costs. Very nice cars tho, I’d defo have one

Once the XR2 goes it’ll be replaced by the best Brabus I can find. Lottery car? Has to be the E30 M3 though a nice 325i would also fit the bill

The right one will be a great laugh I'm sure tho! They are great fun to drive, though they have negligible power. The one I had in 2005 turned out to have the floors rivetted in, so they have been bodged for a very long time. Maybe worth checking out the club if you're searching for a good one. www.x1-9ownersclub.org.uk/
