Had some friends over on Saturday who helped me carry it through the house to give it a quick test run. Good news is it goes very well indeed, full speed almost immediately. Brake works well and it steers very nicely too.
Bad news is that whilst I had it on its side I saw that one of the bits that had been welded needed to be done again. This is a shame as I was hoping to take it on holiday but won't have time to get it welded up before I go.
However, all that aside it was great fun.
And here it is tucked safely away:

Suddenly - there were two! I am writing this feeling ever so happy and very lucky indeed. On Friday there was a for sale post in the 006 group. It’s an unusual thing to see at the best of times. This one more so. It was sensibly priced, a colour I had never seen before, in good condition and local too! Buying another one had never been on my list of things to do. I already have far too much going on with the other cars at the moment as it is. However this seemed like an opportunity not to be passed up. We arranged to head up there the next day, it was a gloriously sunny spring day and the seller was waiting for us as we arrived. Both the seller and his family were wonderful. As I looked around it with him his mother came and took the girls for a walk around the farm to see the lambs and enjoy the sunshine. I knew from the moment I saw it that I would be buying this one, it had spent the majority of its life in a Saab showroom before being sold to this family about nine years ago and had clearly been well looked after here too. Once a sale was settled we started to discuss how I’d get it home, the trailer I had brought up was clearly not going to be up to the job. At this point the seller really went above and beyond anything I could hope for and kindly suggested I borrow a trailer to run it home. As we walked into one of the barns to collect the trailer we passed a really lovely Massey Ferguson that had come free with the farm many years ago! As if the day could get any more perfect it turned out we would be using a classic Range Rover that was the same colour and almost the age as mine to bring the trailer round. This was a very honest original car that had been in the family from day one and was still being used for jobs around the estate. Just like a good Rangey should! One final thing to do before we put the 006 onto the trailer was go for one more test drive with my little one around the lawns, she loved it and was a mixture of grins and concentration as we sped past perfectly manicured flowerbeds and ponds. We then loaded up the 006 and headed for home with me dropping off the girls and the 006 before bringing the trailer back later that evening.

Wow! The new toy looks in amazing condition, should be interesting to compare to the one you've restored. The house it came from looks rather impressive as well!

What an amazing find and can't imagine it going to a better new home 👍 Thanks It really was an amazing find. This one will be kept totally standard. Only planning to clean and maintain it. Wow! The new toy looks in amazing condition, should be interesting to compare to the one you've restored. The house it came from looks rather impressive as well! I could not believe the condition when we got there. It’s not quite perfect but is pretty close. Certainly looks like it’s never been left out in the rain. It is quite different to drive to the other one: Quieter and more sedate. Definitely better for the little one when she starts driving. It also gives me a little more freedom with modifying the gold one now! The house and grounds really were lovely. Made us both starting thinking about moving a little further out to gain a bit more land. Would be nice to have a garden you could really drive around.
