Was hoping today may be "the day"... Been going through the software getting my head round that. Figured out how to lock the timing for set up purposes and set the base timing so I've got something to work from now I'm running cop and done away with the dizzys.. literally went outside after kids had gone to bed starter plugging everything in getting myself ready and...... My eldest daughter decided sleep was for the weak and she wanted to get back up So not today unfortunately... It did get a quick spin over on the key and I've got oil pressure and plenty of cranking power from my new wrong battery. Which is nice. Tomorrow.... Maybe...haha

Well an update but not the one were hoping for Finished off messing around setting timing (I think) last night. Plugged my fuel pump in and heard it prime on the key so happy my wiring is right. Then got a big wiff of petrol which isn't what I'd hoped haha. Also made a bit stranger by fact I'd drained the tank a few week back.. Spun it over a few seconds then went under bonnet and could definitely smell fuel. Imagined it could be out of throttle body or similar since nothing is plumbed in.. started looking over stuff and there like a glaringly obvious cock up was my mistake.. From the factory they run an extra cold start injector under the upper inlet that takes a feed straight off one fuel rail. I've binned all this to go standalone and not done anything with the banjo bolt hole in the rail Bit of digging and lateral thinking later figured out the hole is m8X1 whatever kind of thread that is.. definitely haven't got a bolt to blank the hole and none of my local places are open.. figured out best bet is just weld the banjo up I've got and refit the the banjo bolt to cap it off for now. So took it to work this morning and welded the banjo up.. got home and refitted it. Then with fuel system completed chucked 20 litres in tank. Unplugged the injector fuse so it still pumps but won't inject to build fuel pressure up and check for leaks. Span it over to be greeted by the entire under bonnet area being covered in fuel!!!!! at this point I figured it was probably for the best to leave it for an hour to let fuel evaporate so very very carefully unplugged battery and walked away.. best thing is there was that much fuel I can't tell were it came from do I'm going to have to cause the flood again once I've had a good look over it. Excellent... Will either be something stupid I've missed or well... Something I've done.. Maybe next time will be the time. Maybe

Could be as simple as the copper seal on the banjo, didn't. Thats similar to why mines off the road due to a copper seal on the outlet from the FIP leaking. Doesn't take much to leak with fuel at 3 bar. I'm just waiting for a box of new copper seals to arrive as I'm sure your aware there a one use only thing.

Well here we go again.. again... Found out the fuel leak was coming from under the fuel dampener on the feed side of the rail (the rail that used to be the return side before I flipped the inlet manifold a few pages back)... Took the dampener out and checked everything was right. Sure enough it had the correct washer between the banjo and the rail and the correct serrated washer on top.. Dug the old return out (I've not touched it since I took it off the rail) and under the bottom washer is an oring?? Checked the hole in the rail and sure enough there is a recess in the threaded hole to accept an oring.. what a numpty!! Fitted that, nipped everything down turned the key to acc position so pump primes. Perfect. No more fuel leek no fires. Brilliant. Needed to confirm a few bits on laptop that phoenix engine management had advised me on so fired up the laptop grabbed the timing light spun engine over and got no flash from the light. Thinking this was a bit odd I looked at laptop while it was spinning over and it didn't register any rpm. Oh cock what have I done now. Just to confirm I pulled a coil and fitted a spare spark plug to it and sure enough no spark while cranking I've no idea whatsoever what I've done. My level of diagnosis got as far as checking all the fuses and then calling it a day. I'm going to have to start digging see what exactly is up but for now that's it Sorry for lack of pictures. I just wanted to crack on In short space of time I had and tbh they weren't exciting pics anyways haha Cheers

From my limited knowledge of aftermarket ECU's, I'd have a look at the crank sensor, trigger wheel and how it's set up on the ECU settings. Nick

Well what can I say... Other than ITS ALIVE !!!!!! But we'll get onto that in a minute.. Was properly bugging me last night why I'd suddenly lost spark and wasn't even registering me cranking it. Like to the point it genuinely kept me up last night .. started going through everything I had done over and over. And couldnt figure out why. Got up early this morning hoping to have fresh eyes before work. Then started to question myself to what I had and hadn't done.. Now if youve been here a while you may remember when i fitted the wiring loom a few week/month back it was dark it was snowing on and off and I was working with a bedside lamp outside .. when I laid the loom out I loosely put the plugs in the relevant connectors then once I was sure loom was right clipped everything in.. everything other than god damn crank sensor. Went out this morning and sure enough tiniest pull on wiring had sensor unplugged.. what an absolute idiot!!! Been into work today and couldn't wait to try it when I got home. So fired laptop up. Plugged everything in and set camera rolling.. And we'll.... It worked! Like actually works!!! It's running rough it's still got 30 year old plugs in, fuel pressure is low (I need like 3 bar and I've only got just over one at minute need to adjust fpr)... But I couldn't be happier.. genuinely chuffed! After I'd done running round screaming like a child did it again just to prove it wasn't a fluke and sure enough it works still!! Like I say we're a while off been finished, but least with it running I can make sure timing is perfect a lot easier than cranking it. Need to get turbo on so I can mount the wideband so we can see what afr is doing. Then I've fresh plugs and oil and filter to chuck in. Oh and need to up the fuel pressure.. but we're certainly getting there. There is certainly something about an unsilenced V8 to boost your mojo haha. I was beginning to think this day may never actually come. So I've got a good few jobs to be on with now.. however not today. I've told Mrs il put tools away, going to go and play on garden with kids and might even have a celebratory beer tonight.. Thanks everyone for sticking with it this far. And thanks for the virtual slap when I was being a flannel haha

Just read the whole thread from start to finish. Great stuff, the engine start must be a huge motivation booster! I'm looking forward to seeing it driving

So because I'm fundamentally a child and can't leave anything alone I managed to sneak back outside for half hour while kids were eating.. Upped the fuel pressure a smidge then upped it some more while it was running.. think the results speak for themselves and can't really be happier for 3rd start after all this time.. Think youl definitely agree it sounds happier. Next job is get the new plugs in. Oil and filter done. Drop turbo on and lines and confirm my timing is right. Oh and make an exhaust that can atleast hold my wideband bung if nowt else.. But for now my next job is a beer (read several) Going to spend rest of night sat with my smug face on. Cheers everyone for the feedback. And thanks for sticking this out this far lol
