I thought I would pop this in here seen as I bought it from here, I know nothing about fords so much help will be needed and even the most basic help will be fantastic. Last year I bought a Toyota MR2, I had one many years ago but had to sell it on for various reasons. I collected it from Bristol and drove it back to Kent, used it for a few months and ended up selling it on due to moving house and needing a van. It was a shame really as it was great fun enjoyed by many and its often spoken about with such fondness. It was a Rev1 Import, T bar Manual and it was a great little thing. MR2 by tomm robinson, on Flickr MR2 by tomm robinson, on Flickr Now that we have moved in and things have started to settle down a bit, even though there are huge amounts still to be done, I thought a small distraction could only help things... I started looking at MR2s again but they seem to have rocketed in value since I sold my one last year and I wasn't prepared to pay the money asked by most sellers. I had considered pushing the boat out and getting something fancy, however I decided to budget myself to something that wasn't too demanding and could possibly be improved after work or between jobs around the house, I already have a long term project, I don't need another. Something that I could get in and take to a few events locally. I had considered an MX5 and many other things but I was keen to get something a little different. That's when I spotted this listed by a fellow member andyborris of the forum, Original Advert Here . Strangely, these do strike a tone with me for one very simple reason. When I was 5 or 6, my uncle had a Cosworth in Magenta red, I remember very vividly getting in the back of it for the first time and thinking the thing was a rocket ship in comparison to our Nissan/Datsun Bluebird family car of the time. A few details were exchanged and I left a deposit with the owner of the car. The chap had driven it from new as a company car, then took possession of it himself soon after as his own personal car. It was clear to see talking to him that he had a lot of memories with the car and I think him parting ways with it was a reluctant move. The car has covered 80k miles and has been serviced religiously with everything taken care of as and when needed, flicking through the paperwork there was a lot of bills, some very recent, clutch amongst other things. Anyway, here are some photos. Sierra Sapphire by tomm robinson, on Flickr Sierra Sapphire by tomm robinson, on Flickr Sierra Sapphire by tomm robinson, on Flickr The car appears fairly honest, I think this has the 2.0 pinto with fuel injection? Sierra Sapphire by tomm robinson, on Flickr Interior seemed complete and undamaged, bar an aftermarket headunit. Sierra Sapphire by tomm robinson, on Flickr The car was listed for sale by the owner due to a failed MOT. The car had failed its mot due to numerous things and the owner had decided to pack up driving and sell it on. I've deemed it an economical repair, hopefully. Fail list consisted of rust, I'm not to worried about this at all, Ill get the welder out and hopefully have that sorted over a weekend with supplies I already have in the shed. Here is where the help Is needed. The next faults are to do with brakes. An uneven balance across the front axle and an inefficient handbrake effect. I am hoping to sort the fronts out but removing the calipers on the front and winding the pistons back in, lubricating the sliders and reinstalling them in the hope this will clear the fault. With the hand brake once again I am hoping that checking all moving parts are free, lubricated and moving is the first port of call. If that has no success then I will look into handbrake adjustments and possibly some replacement parts. I am hopeful that the brake parts are ok seen as the car has passed the brake efficiency test on the rears. My long term plans for the car are unknown. I know what I would like to do with it, but I will need to do some research on sierras and what parts from other models fit. Any suggestions would be welcomed. I plan to collect the car next weekend and will update once it is here and update will be posted.

2nd that on the hose's, once bought a 2002 at bargain price because the clutch was gone, fitted a new clutch hose and the clutch reappeared!
Don't forget, I'm just round the corner, if you need help or want to have a go at the brakes before collection...!

I have no idea how to multi quote so please bear with me. Regarding the uneven balance on front brakes.. the first thing I check when this occurs is the flexible rubber hoses. They can perish and collapse internally and severely restrict fluid flow in both directions. I normally replace all the rubber hoses as a matter of course in any old car I buy as they are normally beyond their service life after 10 years anyway. This is something I had not thought of before. Funnily enough I had a similar problem on a bit of condense hose on my boiler so it makes perfect sense. Am I right in thinking that if I slacken off the bleed nipple the rate of fluid flow would either confirm or deny this is a probable fault?

I wont have owned such a standard and well kept retro for a very long time. its quite refreshing in a way. Funnily enough I hadn't seen one for years, then the day before spotting the advert one drove past me. Certainly turned my head because I haven't seen one in years. Cosworths are getting so expensive now, this is the closest id ever come.

Like I say I haven't had a ford for a very long time, my history with fords is very limited. I had an RS Turbo S2 escort over 10 years ago, I then bought a 2008 Fiesta ST in 2014, then a 2001 Ford Ranger crew cab. The ranger was probably my favourite! The spec on these Ghias seem pretty advanced for their time i've got to say. I need to PM you again Dan. Regards your friends painting skills. Slight change of plan if he is potentially still interested of course.

I'm planning on getting the car collected on a truck just to try and keep things simple quick and efficient. I'm hoping to call Trevor tomorrow to finalise a few bits and hopefully get the car up to me for the bank holiday weekend. I would be chuffed if I could get it sorted within that weekend.

No I’m up in Medway unfortunately, just outside of Gillingham down towards the river. Where in Kent are you? I’d like to do a few shows myself, I’ve got a 1967 Mini Cooper that I used to do a lot of events with but since that’s been in the garage I’ve kind of missed out on things a bit. I’ll drop you a PM later today. Thanks for the offer of help. Much appreciated. Not the Mk5 I often see driving through Sittingbourne, when I'm on my way home from work? Andy That’s some commute Andy, where do you work?

Had a mk1 2.0is sierra in a similar colour in late 9o's, the 2.0 injected pinto was great and as tough as old boots.

On the Eurolink estate in Sittingbourne, yes the drive is a bit of a pain, 45 mins in the morning and usually 10/15 mins longer going home!

Had a mk1 2.0is sierra in a similar colour in late 9o's, the 2.0 injected pinto was great and as tough as old boots. The colour is growing on me I must admit. Many years ago we had a transit with the 2.0 injected pinto and that was cracking. We had a failure of a part in the autochoke or something like that, RAC chap rebuilt it in a lay-by as a “temporary fix” and it lasted until we sold it! Only failure we ever had that was engine related. On the Eurolink estate in Sittingbourne, yes the drive is a bit of a pain, 45 mins in the morning and usually 10/15 mins longer going home! Not far from me at all, if you need anything you can always pop by after work! Hopefully I’ll be down your way tomorrow or Saturday with any luck.

The idle issue would have been the idle speed control valve, because they are downstream of the breather they gum up, used to do loads of them, easy to fix, take it off, lay on its back and fill with brake cleaner, leave for a while flush, out and job done.

Bit of an update. I had the car collected on Tuesday the 7th May, I was hoping to get it repaired over the weekend but collection couldn't be made for the bank holiday, so it came home on the Tuesday, no problem really just a little inconvenient. Here it is on the driveway. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Could do with a thorough Scrub. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr I had hoped to get something done to it after work Tuesday, however that wasn't going to happen. Cosmetically the car is worse than I remember it. some poor repairs to the body work in various areas. otherwise the interior is in pretty top and original condition. Wednesday after work I cracked on with the welding repairs. I even found a few spots which the MOT examiner missed. So I set about sorting that. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Rain caught me out so the old Carp brolly came out. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr The previous owner, who had owned the car from new, was quoted £700 for the welding by a local garage. I spent possibly 3 hours on it after work and the lot was repaired, not fantastic jobs but patches and hopefully up to an mot standard. With that all done I thought I would stick it in for an MOT. The car had a fail for poor handbrake at its last MOT test, but it seemed pretty efficient so I was a little confused as to why it had failed on this. I thought I would chuck it in and see what the fail list showed up, how the brakes were and if there were any other faults. I booked it in for Friday, yesterday, and took it up after work. Seemed to drive very well, brakes seemed ok, seemed to pick up and drive well. I hadn't driven the car at all so first impressions were good. Into the test centre, I use them for all of my stuff, very honest and up front with things which is why I use them. Here it is mid-test. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Results were in, PASS! no advisories, result. Here it is with a full 12 months MOT. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr With that I had it out for the day today, popped out for some breakfast even saw grizz in his truck. Don't know if you noticed us? Grabbed some shopping, popped to an auction and then home. Seems quite an ok car! Stopped into Aldi, had a chap pretty adamant he wanted to buy it, that's a first for me. Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Untitled by Mr Bacon, on Flickr Long term I am unsure what to do with it. I have a few ideas but will probably need a good bit of advice! Suggestions are welcomed.

Lovely car, good spec and my favourite colour..... due to it being the same Tasman Blue to the one I passed my test in!
I'd say replace the original amber/red rear clusters, get the right badges and put then back in the right position, and sort out the ride height if you want suggestions!

That’s wicked! There’s just something about seeing a Sierra on the road, probably a big factor being you just don’t see them anymore, I can’t wait to see the plans unfold
