This is the handbrake assembled. The lever still needs cleaning/detailing but you can see the general idea. It compensates in all planes and certainly meets the "suitable strength" criteria I've shown it off and on, there is plenty of reserve travel. I made my own stainless clevis pins to go with it after looking at them on line and noting they were all from China. Thought I would start to sort stuff that will be under the transmission cover and started with the reversing light switch. Which didn't . Took it out and decided it was not one of Ford's better ideas. Time to look for a micro-switch. More bloody brackets to make.

The rear wheels came back today so tried one on. They are 6.5 x 15 banded Minx rims (Ford fitment). Happy with them.

I set too yesterday and cleaned the wheels up, modified a couple of axle stands to carry them and put a coat of epoxy primer on them. Put the heaters on and cooked them. Today I cut the primer back, put another coat on and went for lunch. After lunch I put a dust coat of 2k cream (selected by wifey at Central Paints) followed by a finish coat. Came out nice. The paint is more of a cream in the flesh, my phone has made it look white. Should look great with chrome caps.

Just had the tyres fitted, happy with them. They are not massive (195/65 x 15) as it's only 120bhp or so. Ride height will be about 25mm lower. I was worried about the banded steels but they balanced up nicely with very little weight.

I collected a new (reconditioned) starter motor today after some fun trying to identify the correct one. Also a small Denso 50A alternator turned up. Something to keep me busy as if I need it.

In between garden stuff, C*******s stuff, house sorting stuff, breaking my milling machine (sorted now) and other stuff I finally managed to mount the alternator and make a belt tensioner. First off was to position the alternator and measure up for a mount. I came up with this as a starting point. This put the alternator in the correct position, so I started measuring and making the rest of the parts. These were cut out of 5mm plate and also some machined parts. This is after all the work was done and includes the bits you've already seen fitted, sorry! I was going to make a pulley but remembered that I had had a timing belt done on my Jumbuck when I got it and still had the water pump belt tensioner somewhere. I cut the shaft and pressed the shaft out. Bought a new bearing locally and fitted that in the pulley. Loads of work saved! I made the new assembly so that the pulley was removable making bearing replacement easy. All assembled up it looks like this. Some parts are still loose and also it looks like some parts are touching. They're not. I still have the brace to do on the alternator but it's just a simple strap, there's no adjustment. Edit. The spacers are welded to the plates otherwise assembly requires three arms. Also my exhaust flanges turned up from Whengparts, nice job from Paul.

On my I4 in my Escort mk1 I used a crossflow alternator mount in the same position as you’ve mounted yours. I had to redrill the rear mount hole and the pulleys on the I4 alternator lined up spot on. I’ve not used a tensioner at all, the alternator sits against the engine block and I used just the right size belt that just about goes over the pulleys. I carry a spare belt just incase but it’s been fine for 8 years.
Yours looks a much nicer solution than my lazy effort though.

I'm still plugging away but I'm also rebuilding my 318 Chrysler engine so time is a bit split at the moment. The throttle pedal is all finished and fitted and works a treat, well pleased with it (it's one of those things it's easy to get wrong and annoy forever IMO). Propshaft is in as are the handbrake cables which arrived from Speedy Cables last week (a nice job by them). So I've been sorting the handbrake lever and BIVA required compensator. I got a bit carried away and machined this up It has two small machined Delrin half ball bearings which the cables go through which allows compensation without the adjusters being put out of line. I'll put up a piccy when I've got it assembled. Imm really liking that think i will steal that idea for the moggy handbrake mech

I have just read the whole thread - I love anything rod-related, especially the making of new parts. Fabulous work crockpot - you and your good lady must be pretty pleased with what you've achieved so far. Consider yourself bookmarked!

Made up the lower alternator support, nothing fancy but strong and simple (and out of focus). Also painted all the other bits and fitted them.

I've been working on my Chrysler 318 so not much progress to report. The lack of dust masks is also making life difficult as I have panels to clean. Arco have some now so they are on order. I have started on the front panel assembly so that I can sort various bits. First up is the nose to bulkhead support strut. Very simple, some 10mm stainless tube, some flt and a machined down bolt. This will also have an "ear" on it to support the radiator top. I still have to order the remote filter mount and fit it but I think I'll hold off ordering anything until after the chr*stm*s break as delivery times are not great now. I also need an electric fan so I can get that mounted.

Regarding the remote filter mount. If it’s the oil filter you need to move, I think the RS2000 4x4 mounts the filter so it is upside down using an aluminium adaptor. It’s the same block so should fit. I run one on my Escort. If it’s not then please ignore.

I like the wheels. Looking forward to seeing her when lowered! I did say it was about 25mm, nothing to get exited about . It's likely to be less. There is 6"" clear underneath and that's as low as I would like to go given the roads today.

The remote adaptor is already on and there is space at the front for the remote.

I'm slowly dragging my sorry back into the workshop but the cold and damp is causing a distinct mojo failure. I need to get the rear floor in so that I can finish the "underneath" stuff off (battery cable left to do). So it was a good day and a half's work (my days aren't very long lol) to clean all the gunge off it and remove the rust with phosphoric acid. It was epoxy primed and given a coat of tinted Raptor. At the same time I made a bracket for the remote oil filter mount. This came from Torques and is very nice, came with all the fittings too. The bracket is bolted to the front cross member using 6mm rivenuts. The steering joints arrived from Car Builder so they went on as well. The shaft has 10.6degrees of offset so just over the minimum in the manual (there's a collapsible column and a collapsible boss so all bases covered!). The rear coil overs have arrived from Gaz, I have 3m of battery cable, the rear lights so I will not be short of work for a day or two.
