All my oil pipe AN10 parts have turned up plus rear springs (first guess) plus other stuff I can't remember at the moment (old f&rt syndrome lol). I got the battery cable fitted through but found it hard work, I have arthritis in some joints in my hands and the rivnuts proved to be a bit of a challenge. Anyhoo, it's in I also got the rear floor pan in. It's not a great job so apologies to the offended Once I've got the back section of battery cable in I'll focus on the front end with a view to starting to sort the front panels.

Being an old fart the cold has kept me out of the workshop until today (5 degrees is ok but -3 is taking the waz!). I was part way through making up the oil lines so I got those finished off. Cold PTFE 10AN is a bit of a curse word is has to be said but I got there. As you can see the original oil filter position is disappearing and when the inner wing is fitted would be inaccessible. I also got the clutch bled. It was a bit reluctant but again perseverance paid off. It has a very nice feel to it, the Wilwood master cylinder works well. Cylinder bore ratio is pretty much 1:1.

Not much has been happening for the last couple of weeks due to an altercation between my left ankle and a pot hole in a path. I came off in second place I have now got a LR Defender windscreen to get cut down, I'll organise that next week. Also a parcel arrived from Mark (Blackpop) with two pieces of Poly faced birch ply for the floor. I've managed to do a bit over the last few days. I got the boot floor de-rusted with phosphoric acid, epoxy primed and a coat of tinted Raptor. I've also made the cover plates for access to the fuel pump and level float. The rivnuts on the left are for the battery tray. I've decided to go with a conventional battery. I really need to clean the rest of the panels

Things are moving slowly at Crockpot Towers (due to to many projects. I've been porting and assembling my Chrysler 318 heads). I now have a correctly marked windscreen made from a cut down LR Defender screen. I need to get the templates made so that I can order the rest of the glass. Bought some heat proof sleeve to put over the battery cable where it is in the proximity of the exhaust run. I've found that the exhaust flanges I bought are not suitable so I have redrawn them in LibreCAD for the local laser guys to cut. Finally got a battery tray made and fitted.

Still plodding along. The rear wings are 2" over fibreglass and of unknown make. Inspection of the area next to the fake wired edge showed them to be distinctly wibbly-wobbly (tech term). So over the last week or so I have been slowly building up areas that needed it an d getting them as good as I could. The edges have been thickened to allow a 2.5mm radius to keep the BIVA man happy. All done and in epoxy primer. Flatting this back showed that the whole surface was wibbly-wobbly by small amounts. They were high points all over. So more epoxy and flat. Today I finally got the base and lacquer on. Couple of runs but they will flat back ok. I've got 30ft of new piping on order so hopefully I will have the wings on this year lol.

Two steps forward and a ride on a bus back! First flat back on the wings had tiny grey specks appear. Looks like primer so checked my cheap eBay gun. I found there was an area that was almost impossible to clean. I then managed to break it! Off to the local paint factors who had a reasonably priced gun of surprisingly good quality. I cut back both wings ready for fresh base coat and the final insult was one wing pickled. Put them to one side and drank beer.

I feel for you Paul, I got microblisters one time and had to strip back to bare metal. Paint can be a fickle thing sometimes.

I've been busy landscaping our garden for the last few weeks, still loads left to do. I have managed to do some bits on the Pop though. First up I needed a thermostat housing that pointed anywhere but towards the offside wheel! Found a couple of chunks of ally that could be machined and welded together to point the outlet at the radiator. The original is in the background. Some time back I bought flanges for making an exhaust manifold. As it turned out they were not how I would have done them (the holes for the pipes were far larger than I liked) so I knocked some up in CAD and had them laser cut locally. Bought a pile of SS bends, put the relevant information into a calculator for pipe lengths and knocked this up. It's not quite finished but I'm waiting for the last bend, a V band joint and a boss for the Lambda sensor. The bottom hose was always going to be an issue so with some more bends I got stuck into that as well. It goes round the remote oil filter and then the rack and then reverses direction to join the pump outlet. The reversal is because of the tapering nose on Pop's. Fits like this. I'm also in the process of making templates for the windows so I can get those underway. I already have a LR screen cut for the windscreen.

Well, here we are again! Along with getting on with my Humber I have been doing bits on Wifey's Pop, just not enough to write about. Time for a catch-up. I wanted to get all the under floor stuff finished off so that I could get the floors cut, finished and fitted. First up was an exhaust system. I wanted this to be as quiet as I could get it to avoid being on the limit and struggling to get below 99db. I ordered the largest stainless silencers I could fit from Profusion Exhausts, one oval section and a smaller round one. There's not a lot of room and the oval one required a "dimple" at one crossmember. The back end was chocked up and using rubber bobbins I started to make a mount. It's not the prettiest but it is very substantial. Part made. And finished. I would normally run the exhaust to the rear of the car but due to the low ride height and the suspension packed rear I have had to go for a side exit. I ended up with something reminiscent of one of Marks experiments. It is fitted using a V band so that if I can get it on a ramp some day I may be able to make a full length system. It exits here in front of the wheel arch (sill not fitted). Final job on the exhaust was to fit the Bosch wideband sensor. The floors (material supplied by Mark aka Blackpop) were already cut and ready to go in. Where parts come through it is routed out and small infill panels will go in to seal it. The exhaust side is fitted over a heat shield of aluminised glass mat. I've started getting some of the wiring in and as part of that I fitted the wiper motor and rack. I was not happy with the wiper box ferrules that clamp to the bodywork as they were pitted and manky. I chucked some stainless in the lathe and made a couple up. They still need final polishing. Final little job (in this update) was to change the way the accessory drive belt was routed. Someone on the NSRA site pointed out that the contact was limited on the crank pulley so I measured up for a different route and it worked out a treat. I'm now waiting for my Rover engine to be collected so that I get some space back. Then it's more Humber AND pop hopefully.

As I had sorted the wiper box ferrules I thought I would continue with sorting out the wipers. A quick check showed that they parked on the wrong side, also the sweep was not acceptable. I had a chat with Mark (Blackpop) as he had experience of a chopped Pop and BIVA. He had some useful tips so I started to investigate. The wiper motor gear was marked 110 degrees so obviously more was needed. Not too much as the blades then run into the screen rubber. I found a company in Brighton who have a large stock of NOS Lucas parts and they had a 120 degree wheel so that was purchased. I also have some flat style wiper blades on the way as these can be cut to suit screen clearance. A quick mock up and spot on. Sorry, no pictures, I totally forgot (not much to look at anyway!) As I was on screen clearing I dug out my collection of washer bottles. I saw nothing I liked so removed the pump and grommet from one, measured up and started cutting up 2mm aluminium sheet. I made it to fit into the corner of the bulkhead and make use of a dead space. It is larger than required by BIVA but that's a good thing in my book. I have to admit the welding is not my best. I seem to get worse as I get older, struggling with glasses and wobbly hands! A bit of a clean up and polish will help to improve the looks.
