Things have been progressing slowly at Crockpot Towers. Our local blaster, who has a very good reputation, will not blast panels for fear of damaging them. He does edges, shuts etc. This has meant hand bare metalling all the panels. The roof, as the sharp eyed will have noticed, has been filled with a steel panel. This was done with a properly English wheeled panel to suit. Even so it did require some filler work. This worried me as it had spent years in red oxide (in all weathers) and was probably wrecked. However, when I started to strip the paint it appeared that it was not what it appeared. The filler was good and some exploratory digging out showed that the steel was like new. Result! So it was all DA'd and then given a coat of epoxy primer to seal it for now. During the stripping on the rest of the body I found some previously unseen rot in the B pillar. Just tiny marks at first but pushing with a pointy thing showed this(curse word photo warning). Further investigation showed that the area had been repaired years before. So that meant some high fibre CAD design work. I've removed the bottom filler plate and replaced it. No more to report for now but photos when I do.

Got stuck in today and battered a piece of unsuspecting steel sheet into some sort of panel. Cut the bad bit out- Notice there is an old repair in the back of the wheel arch, this had to come out as well. At this point I have already put the panel in at the bottom. Tacked into place- Welded up and cleaned up. It will require a tiny bit of filler where it has sank slightly. The access to the back is lousy. Back to the stripping (the car not me).

Just caught this thread and it's bookmarked. Interesting to see one being built for BIVA from the outset, against Mark having to do a retrospective one. I must have missed the bit in his thread about two sizes of balls, ahem, what measures what?

The balls represent your knee (the small one) and your head (the big one). The small one is used to check outside radius' and the larger to check anywhere your head might hit inside. It's a bit more detailed than that but that's the gist of it. It wasn't originally going to be a BIVA build but I decided that it was the best way forward (before I ended up in Mark's situation).

Thank you! I do like a hot rod. Very few over here and a lot of those are built of hope and isopon.

I've not posted for a bit but it's not been all play and no work. Following a discussion with neighbour (who's a sprayer) I decided that it would be easier from here with a rotisserie. This will help with painting and early assembly of brake lines etc. So off I went. It works really nicely. The shell is easy to turn and it moves on the casters with little effort. I can now see the stuff underneath I couldn't see (or reach) before

It's been a while! All sorts of stuff getting in the way as usual, mostly Mum stuff. Retirement in September of last year gave me a lot more time (and much less money!) but I've got into the way of it now and have made good progress over the last few months. It took some time to find and then get into a decent local media blaster but I found a local Mini restorer who had set up doing his own blasting. It was blasted and epoxy primed and bought back home. It turned out that what looked ok when it was in matt red all those years ago was not so good. I've spent months on sorting the roof and pillars where the chop was done. Any how, it's in paint and ready for flatting/polishing. Onward and upward!

Thanks,Wifey picked it, it's xirallic which looks like pearl. It looks stunning when the light catches it.
Edit. Found some info on the paint
Xirallic is a pigment made of aluminum oxide platelets covered with titanium oxide that shows a strong glitter effect with a distinct shimmering behavior. It was developed and patented by researchers of the company Merck KGaA in Japan.
