There’s a little bit of misinformation floating about here so let me clear a few bits up.
You’ve got an early 100E Prefect. This was a 4-door 100E with the 1172cc 100E sidevalve engine and 100E banjo axle. It had the bigger stud pattern. From ‘59, the 100E Prefect became the 107E Prefect, which had the 997cc OHV Anglia 105E engine and box, Anglia axle with English diff and the same bigger stud pattern. 107Es have a recessed firewall to accommodate the taller OHV engine. Your current engine is the 1340cc 109E Consul Classic pre-crossflow OHV with the hollow crank.
1500cc pre-crossflow Cortina engine is a direct swap. 1600cc crossflow Escort engine is a close fit but it’s 8mm wider on the exhaust side. Both of those are slightly taller than the 997, 1198 and 1340cc engines. Most crossflow parts fit the pre-crossflow.

Hi, Correct sir, according to the v5 I got the other day, it’s meant to have the sidevalve. Someone has fitted this engine at a later date, engine mounts look good.......but I took the carpet up around the gear stick, and it’s a bit of a bodge to cover the original home, just a bent over metal sheet with screws holding it in place 😬, I got under the car and the gearbox crossmember is just a piece of angle bar🤔 I’m yet to measure the stroke on this engine to figure out which one it is (unless you know for sure it’s the 1340)

Personally I think your best plan of attack is to find a Mk2 Escort with a rotted body buy it and use all the running gear on the 100E.

I'm currently building a mk2 escort front end into a 100e for a lad down the road, sourcing the parts isn't easy or cheap anymore!
105e rear axles also seem to be made of gold!

Think I’m going to use a Suzuki rascal axle Good for 350hp apparently 😮 And only 1/2inch wider than the Anglia axle Plus they’re cheap 😂

Tbanks I will let him know, I guess the only problem will be different wheel pcd front to rear.

Just bookmarked this one. Looks like it's going to be a cracking build. Suzuki back axle sounds like a right plan. 😉 Think there's enough on the rear hub to Redrill the pcd to. So 4x108 all round 👍

Stuck a screwdriver down the spark plug hole to measure stroke, I’ve got roughly 60mm......so I’m guessing it’s the 1200cc engine I have? The exhaust/inlet gasket needs changing, so I’ll do that and fit the cortina exhaust atthe same time.......so I’ve Been thinking about changing the inlet manifold too Been suggested to maybe use this cortina gt manifold with a escort 1300gt carb Then I came across these which would allow me to use twin Weber’s I’v not really got much knowledge about carbs I love the look of the twin Weber’s, and sure it’ll sound great.....but would they work/is it overkill?

Twin 40s would be overkill, the 1200 and 1360 don't rev well with their relatively long stroke and 3 bearing cranks. You may akso have clearance issues to the firewall. A weber dcd on the GT manifold would be more than enough.
I think I have a dcd somewhere if you are interested.

What a difference a day makes😮
Just went to my first job of the day
Noticed a kit car in the corner of the shop, got chatting to the owner who said he’s thinking of selling it.......said I might be interested in the engine and gearbox
......so may have just got a Cosworth v6 and type 9 for £300 😬😂

Had a spare couple of hours So took out the old mouldy ‘grandma’s living room’ carpet Doesn’t look too bad at all, bit of surface rust, il get a wire wheel on it and clean it up some more later. Here’s the previous owners tunnel mod for the 4 speed box 😬😬

Yeah 😄
It’s cheap enough, I’ve got a spare stand-alone ecu,
The bulkhead and tunnel needed replacing anyway, so why not make room for something half decent 👍

That's great.
Can i suggest not permanently fitting the Bulkhead an tunnel until you have the engine and box to fit?
You don't want to be doing the work twice.
Or have you all ready got them?
