As the title really, does anyone know a well priced body shop in central Scotland, who are good at what they do, that would be able to respray the Corrado I’ve bought? I don’t want to spend mega money on it like I did my 106, as I want to enjoy it as a usable car, but the paint is terrible on it, would be looking to get the full exterior done and the engine bay. The battery tray needs a small bit of welding, but I can do this if it’s paint only shops that are recommended Thanks

Good mate (Martin), now works at A1 automotive and restoration, he was a painter at Eagle E-types before heading north of the border so definitely knows his stuff. I'm pretty certain the Celica will be going the length of the country to him when it's ready for paint.

RM Bodywork in East Kilbride. Rab works on, and owns, various classic cars and turns out very high standards of finish. www.rmbodywork.co.uk

Thanks for the suggestions folks! It gives me a few more places to try for quotes. A1 is very very local to me, but I’ve heard they’re not the cheapest, this is reflected in their work, but I already have one car I spent show car money on to get it painted, and I know you get what you pay for when it comes to bodywork. However, I don’t think I want to spend the showncar money on the paintwork as I like to use the engine for what it was built for you could say

The main thing I'd want is the prepwork done right; i.e no moisture in the paint, correct sanding for adhesion etc. Unfortunately that does take take to acheive. Preparation really is the key thing for good paint jobs, both in terms of finish and longevity.
Putting the paint on in many ways is the easiest part. Likewise the polishing is labourious, but this could be one area where you could save; i.e have the finish out of the gun.

It’s just trying to find the happy medium, I’m going to get a few quotes once I’m home again, mostly from friends of friends, hoping they will do me a good price while still being a good finish. Like I say, I had one car taken back to bare metal and the finish is out of this world, but ideally I didn’t want to spend that money again, especially while saving for a house haha!

I've come to learn over time it's about having the right work done.
I'm going through the very same with the M3. I was about to go elsewhere, but even the specialist I'm going to is advising me to go to a bloke I know but is pricey!

How much was your last bare metal respray if you don't mind me asking, feel free to pm me if easier I'll drop you a PM just now mate I've come to learn over time it's about having the right work done. I'm going through the very same with the M3. I was about to go elsewhere, but even the specialist I'm going to is advising me to go to a bloke I know but is pricey! This is very true. I guess a big issue with bodywork is, it can look great for a few years, then turn to sh*t. Maybe back to the idea of spending a bit more on it, with the view that 1. It'll last, and 2. I won't have any worries about it lasting the length of time.... I'ts not a car i'm planning to sell any time soon....
