It's been a while, but discovered a bit of history of the Escort as I spoke to the person who rebuilt it to this spec. In its previous guise it was called Stage Fright and featured in Street Machine magazine. I do have a couple of pictures, but don't seem to be able to upload them anymore ?? [/img]

I'm well up for an update on this. I think the uploader is down this weekend, Hotwire is tweaking the forum gubbins. I can't explain further as I don't understand how it works. And I have been drinking. But interested to see more

I was sure I'd mentioned that this was the old Stage Fright car when you first posted a couple of years ago. Obviously not lol.

Still not really started on this. But the builder told me that he was in the middle of converting it from Small block Chevy to 2.8 ford power and the prop had been modified to suit. The car is horrendous to push with wide rear tyres and a spool diff. As I had a spare one of these I decided to see how it fitted. Out with the small block and in with a smaller block, a loss of 3 litres🤪 Now some mounts to make. Leaving the Chevy mounts as this is only to get the car moving. I seem to have misplaced the crank pulley bolt. Any one got a spare from a 2.8/2.9 cologne?

Engine and box in today, new mounts don't interfere with the Chevrolet engine mounts. So should be easy to change back later. Think it looks more like it should now😁. Still to paint the valve covers. ThenWater, fuel and electrics next and some sort of exhaust system.

Next on the list was the fuel system. I could have just rigged a tank up, but there’s a tank so may as well use it. In time I’m going to have to clean it, so may as well do it now. The petrol was pretty rank and had that old car smell as it must be at least 26 years old. The problem was to get the tank out. It can only come out from underneath. So first was to get these bad boys out, 30 inches of rubber. Then drill out all the rivets holding the tin work in. Drop the tank down and out, the filler looked pretty crusty! Taking out the tank outlet, the bolts didn’t look too healthy, to say the least! The fuel level float looked like something that the time team had dug up. Just got to work out how to clean the tank now before putting it back together.

Looking good, I think you need a support under the front of the blower snout as the force of the belt pulling it down will make the belt run off the front of the pulley

The one on the Rover is 75mm from the support to the back of the pulley and it’s been fine. I will keep an eye on it, cheers, Great minds and all that! Had the mixer running for a couple of hours this afternoon, it made a difference but there is still thick layer of tar like residue on the base of the tank. I’ve put a couple of litres of thinners in so will give it another go tomorrow. It’s a baffled tank but there was that much “tar” in the tank that water wouldn’t Flow between the compartments when I tried to flush it.

A bit more done on the Escort, front pulleys and belts all on I fond the keys under the drivers seat, only taken 2 1/2 years! So now can remove the steering wheel. Converted the clutch from cable to hydraulics. I got some 45mm tube and some 5mm steel, cut out some flanges and fabricated new headers and exhaust pipes. Sorry don’t know how to rotate the pictures on my phone.

Cheers, there was a fair bit of work in the exhaust but it’s turned out ok for a first attempt. Got the tank all cleaned and painted, but there is some contamination in the paint and I’m not sure what it is. I used a different primer so think it could be that. Also turned up a bung for a water pipe.

Got all the plumbing connected and enough of the electrics sorted to get a spark. Spun it over to get oil pressure. Nothing else for it but to give it a try.
