It's been about two months since my last update when I was finishing off building up the front axle. I've been racking up the miles using the 109 as my daily, moving furniture and fetching timber for some home improvements....
The upgraded front axle is noticeable, on hard lock it's lost the feedback through the transmission from the u/j's, and on load it tightens up and wants to go in a straight line!
It's had a few more improvements made to it as and when I've had the time between work and stuff. The original Mercedes fuel filter has be refitted on the engine, and the power steering reservoir relocated into a notch in the inner wing
I've even fitted a steering cowl behind the steering wheel and moved the original series 3 fusebox into the dashboard
The latest improvement is to remove the cable operated handbrake for an older rod actuated setup since the cable has been gradually seizing up. It was a bodge job fitting it into the tight space back when I first threw the 109 together. Now I can focus on finer refinements like the handbrake linkage as I slowly tick through the jobs
