Well thats it, its in the hands of the gods now. Last night I fixed a few niggles that appeared on the first proper drive, and this morning I cleaned it and removed the clocks to disable that god awful oil buzzer. Had a much better drive in it this time and put a CTR in its place 😂 did I mention it goes rather well? 👀 Booked in for Tuesday, home for Thursday to have a windscreen fitted then back for retest with hopefully just the screen to satisfy him Gutted to be leaving her but needs must

Great work, good on you welding it up yourself too!
Ready in time for the good weather coming, at least down south anyway

Its been 24 degrees today and I thoroughly enjoyed the 8 mile drive there with the window down listening to boost noises. I’d love to be using it this weekend but its not to be 😔

So the mot... You’ll notice some crossed off, thats because I had the good sense to fix some before I drove it home! It looks worse than it is, the wheel bearings just wanted a nip up, the track rod end locknuts i left loose for tracking (the inner arm balls are new and tight so they ain’t coming undone by themselves), the ends are larger mk4 items, I don’t think they're on wrong, I think it’s because I’ve not got the steering centred and its going further on one lock? The headlights they’re doing, the windscreen is booked Thursday as planned and one handbrake cable isn’t releasing fully, i think thats saveable. So not too much to do before a retest on Saturday. The only thing that’s fully pleased me is my neighbour who took me for it and followed me home confirmed it spits flames! 😈

That is all 🙌 they’re gonna do the headlight aim so just a retest. Turns out my rod ends weren’t on wrong, it was as i thought, steering wasn’t centred 👍🏻

So I’ve now done over 100 miles in it, and apart from a rattle underneath that doesn’t want to be found, its been a right laugh. It’s quick, makes all the right noises and isn’t too bad on thirst. I’ve hooned it hard today, can you tell? 😂 I also gave it a steam and hoover this morning as it had garage dust in it

Just read through this from the start, great progress and love the colour! If I was buying mine again id go for BBM or an oaky! Mines is tornado red, and reading this has got me itching to get the finger out and get started, mine needs some welding too, the rear strut towers on the double skin where it goes onto the body skin

Ahh rear towers, thats more of a favourite rot location on mk3s! I’ve never been a fan of oak, its gotta be BBM (not just because its super desirable) or medium blue (if you’ve seen my old threads you’ll see i love that colour), tornado red isn’t a bad colour its just high maintenance 😂
I think during my periods of no interest it was other people’s threads (and watching mk2 20vt vids on youtube) that gave me some mojo. Get on it to enjoy our rare summer!
I see you’re also a rallye man? I always said if I sold this it would be for a series 1 106 rallye, I had an early xsi and kicked myself many times for selling it 😔

I'll need to have a look through your old threads then haha! It's going to need a respray I feel anyway, fuel filler area is also needing work, and it really needs a refresh in general It's vrT videos I keep watching, I'm only running 272bhp /272ftlb at the moment due to not having a decomp plate, but there's one waiting to be fitted once I do get started! There's no chance it'll be out this year anyway I am mate, I still have it, I had toyed with selling it, but I don't think I could quite bring myself to go through with it! I like the S1 xsi's I'd have one in a heartbeat!

Only 272bhp??? Is that not enough 😂 mines only about 200bhp and its ridiculous for a mk2. Although mismatched budget tyres are letting it down badly, 3rd gear boost spins the wheels and it’ll be much faster with good tyres. I plan on putting a ko3s on at some point for 240bhp and I’ll draw a line at that, i fear any more is wasted without an lsd

It does go extremely well, and I have questioned if I would regret going for more power, as it surprisingly puts the power down extremely well at the moment, I run Yoko Ad08r tyres and would recommend them! If it's a dry day, I don't get much wheel spin unless I try for it...
Are you going to RRG? It'd be nice to get a look around the car!

I was looking at those, not terribly cheap but I guess you can’t put a price on being able to put down the goods.
I’ve never been to a gathering, but I’m feeling its time I did, if I get to see half the cars on here I’d be pleased, wouldn’t mind giving the golf a blast up the hill either whistling and chattering 😂
I should have a ko3s and good tyres by then too, might even have all the rattles fixed 👀

What size wheels are you running? 15s? I managed to get 4 for £160 in 195/45(or 50 I can't remember) Which for the money I couldn't fault them!
I've never been either, but I need to stop saying to myself I'll go then not... So this is the year if I can get a hold of some tickets! Hopefully I'll see the mk2 there, would be good to see it up the hill!

Yea 15x6 RAs. They have 195/45s on which is wrong, I’ll be getting 50s. Thats crazy cheap for 4, I’ll keep an eye on ebay 👍🏻

I'll drop the company I got mine from a message, and see if they're still doing them at the same price

and removed the clocks to disable that god awful oil buzzer Mine started playing up recently, I disabled the buzzer too and wired in an external one. Took me ages to realise the `relay` on the PCB is actually the buzzer !

Me too, google failed to yeild an answer for ce2 clocks so I stripped them down, plugged them in and revved it to make it go off and all became clear, just poked the copper to break it and all was peaceful! Because of the nature of the car though its hard to watch the oil pressure gauge so I’d like to wire in my own warning

Because of the nature of the car though its hard to watch the oil pressure gauge so I’d like to wire in my own warning I bought a 10mm 12V Flashing LED from Ebay. 12V to the LED, then the negative to the low pressure switch on the oil filter housing. When the pressure is low, it earths the switch and the LED flashes. It`s big enough that there is no way you`ll miss it so long as you position it somewhere in your eyeline or peripheral vision.
