After 2 weeks I've had the wheels back in all their lovely bandedness. Only ope ed one but quite pleased with the result. There are a couple of penetration blobs I need to grind off though.  Put a bit of primer on to stop them rusting. Tire  Tires next. |

Got tyres fitted. I went for a 195 x 60. Look bloody good to me. They are the same rolling radius as the standard 165 x 80 but look a lot better on the 7" rim.  Comparison between old and new.  The roof of the fan is a fibre glass translucent high top. This appears to have no gel coat. I've bought a silk grey flowcoat to cover it as it's gone fluffy. This will be going on tomorrow. |

Cool. Be interesting to see how you get on with the flowcoat as the roof of my lorry is in a similar state by the sound of it.

Called over my brothers and the first layer of flow coat is on. The roof was sanded with 40 grit to remove all the fluffy bits. It was then blown down to get rid of the dust. The whole roof was the rubbed over with acetone to help give a better key. The flow coat was then rollered on. A word of advise if your going to do this is don't use pound shop rollers. They fall apart and get stuck in the flow coat. He's used the fluffy roller that gives a dimple finish that I quite like. It will be sanded before the next coat.   And here is a shot of the van the wheels aren't on properly as there are no rear hubs on at the moment. When I'm on the subject of the wheels the tyre fitter had to fit tubes as every weld leaked like a seive.  |

This has got my interest. Now I'm seriously looking at an estafette for a camper. Can't wait to see the finished article here.

hi...great work so far...back in the 70s when we used to get our wide steels from "Deals On Wheels",we used to seal the inside of the welds with fibreglass resin and hardner...never had a problem..
you will need to watch that the welds are completely smooth with tubes..

This has got my interest. Now I'm seriously looking at an estafette for a camper. Can't wait to see the finished article here. I can't wait to see it finished either. It's given me a few sleepless nights. This is a short wheelbase van but a lot of the full blown campers and foody vans tend to use the long wheelbase version. |

Perhaps I could use the flow coat. I've used old banded steels on the Escort and never used tubes either. All the welds on the wheels were smooth and fair play to the tyre fitter he ground off all the weld spatter. |

As all structural welding is done and the roof as now repaired the van has been driven outside as a rotten convertible beetle has taken its place on the ramp. There is still not brakes or coolant hoses on it so it won't be going to far. The rear end is rocking some serious positive camber at the moment after being in the air for over a month. The rear wheels are looking close to the arch but I think they will miss. It really needs to lose some height. There must be nearly a foot between the sills and the floor. It will drop a bit once boarded out a rear seat/bed is fitted but I doubt it will be enough.  |

Not much progress on the Estafette. I ordered all the brake parts from France but the master cylinder won't be delivered until the end of December. The same goes for the coolant hose set.i haven't fitted the wheel cylinders and brake hoses yet as there's little point without the master. I've bought some new rear lights for it. The originals look like they come off a trailer lighting board and are both damaged. The early Estafettes came with round rear lights that look a lot better so I've bought a set of lights and reflectors for the rear of a morris minor traveller. These look a lot better.   Regarding the registration I sent a cheque off to Renault Classic in France for a certificate to prove the build date. I've still not received anything back but I called the bank today and the cheque was cashed on October 7th. Maybe it's on its way, maybe it's been lost in the post maybe someone else has cashed it or maybe it just hasn't been sent who knows. I've got no way of finding out. Will probably have to right another letter... |

would love one of these. bookmarked Sadly no progress on this. I have been waiting since September for the brake master cylinder and coolant hoses to turn up from France. Every month they promise it will be next month. Also having paid my £60 to Renault in France for a certificate of authenticity to prove the build date in October I still haven't received anything. Renault have cashed my cheque and dine a runner. They don't reply to my emails or letters. Without it I can't register it in the UK unless I go Q plate. |

Have you tried chatting to the registrar over on renaultccc.proboards.com/ ? they might be able to help or have i said that previously? I also found renault UK helpful, could be worth a call even to complain that renault france have taken the money and ran |

I'm really fed up with banging my head against a brick wall with this. I've been playing with my mk2 Cortina instead. I've left the van over my brothers and haven't looked at it for 6 months |

I've bought a few bits from Elliot. I don't think he has much connections regarding build dates though. There is another guy on there who was trying to gather information to make it easier to get these vans registered if you don't have the French log book by its all gone quiet. |

After months of nothing on this, last week I spoke to a nice lady in the customer service department at Renault UK. She said she would try and help to get hold of the build date certificate so I can get it registered. This was in the post yesterday when I got home  It left the factory on 4th May 1971. Hopefully this will help persuade the nice people at the DVLA to give me an age related plate. I still think I will need the support of one of the club's to get it though. The brake master cylinder finally turned up from France last week so I should be able to take it for an MOT soonish |

Good news. I'm sure with a signed and stamped letter from Renault the DVLA would be pretty hard pressed to argue it  |
