On Monday I changed the spark plugs with new Bosch Super-Plus copper core (to replace the HKS iridium tips), drove it to the Ace Cafe and gate-crashed a BMW event which went down well. Car drove very well. The clutch is slow to release and seems to be seeping at the master cylinder so I've ordered a new one. While I was at it, I bought a new ignition coil so that I can eliminate other factors before tweaking the carb and timing. Did the obligatory one wheel peel on exit Also saw this there which was probably my personal favourite of all the German stuff

New clutch m/s arrived but the fixing points are different so I'll remove mine, strip it down and rebuild it using the parts from the new one. In other, bigger news. I was advised to have a chat with someone who runs a well known bodyshop who would like to do a complete strip down and super show quality paint job on it! If all goes to plan the car with be dropped off there in a few months for a COMPLETE makeover!!! The painful news for me in that is that I will need to source new door/boot/window seals I better start shopping for new shoes!!!

Such a good looking car, love the shape. Bodywork will be expensive but worth it I think

Such a good looking car, love the shape. Bodywork will be expensive but worth it I think The body work is solid and straight. There is the tinyest amount of grot in the door bottom corners, around the rear lights (cant see as it's hidden by the new rear light seals) and the front edge of the roof gutter isnt straight where something had been leant against it in the past. It's the paint which is sh1t due to an age old curse word poor paint job which reacted. I flattened most of the crazing out which is why it looks flat in places, I then sanded most of the paint chips out and the swage lines to essentuate them as the black is too boring. However I have a new tempoary fix for that which I will be showing over the weekend To get a get a decent finish on the paint, it'll pretty much be taken back to the bare metal. I'll be at the ace cafe on monday and tueday if anyone wants to come along.

Good to meet you at the Ace last night, your car looks great in its new livery, I tried to get a picture but for reasons I cant say on here I didnt but intended to try later. It certainly has presence, a real head turner especially to people who know their cars. Jim

From your earlier posts I thought there were a few rusty sections that were behind repair panels that needed seeing to at a later date?

Front wing bottoms -----------> cut off and sectioned with new steel ends of sill ------------> cut out and replaced with new steel Door bottom corners -----> so minor I'll leave that for when it's painted. They can replace that metal in about 30 mins. The rear panel has some around where the rear light clusters had old dried out seals and were holding water. As it is relatively minor and covered/protected by the new rear light seals I cleaned it up, sealed and left it as I would *ideally* like to just drill out the spots and replace the entire panel if I could source another. Otherwise no, shes solid!

I tried looking for your build thread but couldnt find it so I'm glad you posted here! I'll post an update shortly about the 'eventful' journey home!

Ok, this week the Hako attended twice; for the Fueltopia meet and the following day for the Classic Car meet. The clutch still wasn't right despite a new Master Cylinder and rebuilding the old one. The old... Hakosuka by damien.oneill, on Flickr I did take more pictures but didnt appear to upload them, will add them later. Also fitted a new coil *no pic* All cleaned upHakosuka by damien.oneill, on Flickr fueltopia nightIMG_4657 by damien.oneill, on Flickr IMG_4656 by damien.oneill, on Flickr Hakosuka by damien.oneill, on Flickr Classic Car nightIMG_4661 by damien.oneill, on Flickr IMG_4662 by damien.oneill, on Flickr IMG_4664 by damien.oneill, on Flickr IMG_4672 by damien.oneill, on Flickr IMG_4682 by damien.oneill, on Flickr As I left the Ace there was a little scrape on the exhaust... ok I thought, take it slow over the next 2 speed bumps. *scraaaaaaaaaaaape* ...hmmmmmmmmmmmm *scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaape* ....hmmmmmmmmm, is that a blow I can now hear? Approach the traffic lights to join the North Circular (A406) and it scraped again! Open the door, and lean down to look under the car and the exhaust is hanging pretty low. I figured one of the new rubber O-rings had worked loose..... "a nice and easy cruise home it is" I tell myself. Yup, optimism wasn't going to save the day. Pulled away nice and slow (all I can do until the clutch hydraulics are repaired) and the exhaust snagged as I crossed the junction, ripping it off AND just for good measure I ran it over. Had to jump out the car and pick up a pretty hot exhaust from the middle in the road, stuffed it in the car and drove home with no exhaust from the header. Interesting as it sounded mean as foook when cruising along, but utter pants when accelerating. Mind you the 5-0 passed me and didnt even blink an eye. Moving on from that I'm picking up a N.O.S Janspeed 6 branch header from a friend for a reasonable sum and will then drop it off to a local place which specialise in stainless exhaust fabrication to make something a little more in keeping with the car. The system I made was a 2" system to suit the turbo engine which has since been sold so now kinda unnecessary. I'd really like a raspy twin tube system but we'll see what I can stretch to. Other than that the car is running well, I want to rebuild the carb but again, looking at other options which could be used... Weber 32/36 etc. As always, thoughts and ideas welcomed

So today I paid a visit to my good friend who has this amazing thing which drives as good as it looks... Had a coffee, some cake, bit of banter about cars, life, etc and I ended up driving home with this... If the weather is dry tomorrow then I'll get that lot cleaned up and fitted. Everything seems to be moving in a different direction suddenly

Steve's is a lovely car, very pretty considering he rebuilt it in about 20 seconds.

Off with this god awful lot and Good riddance!!! goo.gl/photos/pP2t8F4rV5AkCGXH8New gasket still looking good with no signs of leaking goo.gl/photos/eW5PDyi931qg8TPP8The crank breather was in the way so has been removed. I'll cut, reangle and weld it over the weekend. goo.gl/photos/wyFoH8vwpk84ZhPy9Test fit; was catching on the thermostat housing so using a flap wheel I took a few MM off the flange. Still tons of meat on there so all good. goo.gl/photos/y1J161M9dYySVv8r6Carbs trial fitted... need to work out a throttle solution as I'm missing part of the linkage. I would ideally like to connect the cable to the linkage. Hmmmmmm.... goo.gl/photos/onKyQ4WoZwctEpUAAAlso may have secured a 5 speed gearbox, however I'd need to remove it from the car and its about 200 miles away. Joy of joys.
