The blanket of secrecy is no more and I've decided to create and forcefully keep on top of a build thread for a purchase I made in November for mine (and many others I'm sure) Nissan Skyline Hakosuka.
Doing my usual ebay rounds I spotted it and didn't really believe what I was seeing. I placed a rather generous bid but no one else was playing so it didnt really go anywhere so I decided to get in touch with the guy and go view it being that it was in West London.... but it didnt really matter where it was, I was buying this car.
Knowing full well that this wasn't going to be cheap, I enlisted the other half to join me and view the car, and this is what we got to see.
It actually looked A LOT better in the flesh than the pictures. Inner arches are ROCK solid, compete interior with nothing missing, the throttle cable was snapped and it had a flat battery but it didn't matter. I had to have it. The hard bargaining was done over the next few days and by the weekend it was delivered. Up until then there had been just one in the country which belongs to my good friend Chunk who drove up the following day to view it.
First thing with any car is to immediately buy all the wheels avaialable which I promptly did, my excuse for this was that the current watanabe style wheels have mega weak offset and rub on the struts as can be seen here
Brynn came over with some banded steels which look a bit like this
Next thing I did was remove the broken throttle cable and ask on this 'ere forum if anyone knew of anything similar I could use, it didn't go as hoped so sent the broken to Speedy Cables and Anthony did a sterling job of fitting a new core and returned it to me for the grand sum of £17.... only about 10 time cheaper than buying a replacement cable from Japan!!!
So now it starts and was drivable
It all seems to be going quite well so far.
The boot is COMPLETELY rotten and needs some serious fabrication but the cheapest quote I've had so far is £500 which I feel is a little excessive as I can import a new carbon fibre boot from Japan for similar money
As you can see the latch has completely rotten off but lady luck was caressing her nipples and shining her beautiful radiance upon me and as a result I found the latch with rusted bit loose in the car.
A bit of patience and some light buzzing on the lowest setting meant I then had a crudely attached latch and a locking boot. Sweet.
An example of the inner wings...
Plans for this weekend involve bleeding the brakes as they are fubar'd, the handbrake does work so I suspect a hydraulic issue.
Start cleaning the underside and reseal it.
Replace the knackered arb droplinks.
Remove the front wings as the bottoms need repairing.
Remove the suspension and begin to look for alternatives (if anyone has some spare coilovers, please pm me!)
Clean it!
And now, before I wrap up this post, some pictures of things to come!
oh... and this...
