Cool car and book marked the build. Keep the updates coming. BTW, is a 2000GTX or GT ( not that it matters)? Its a 1972 skyline, it is obscenely rare, one of only 2 in the uk... Even in Japan they're rare. It is RWD but this is far far far from a drift toy. ]As mentioned above, this is one of 2 in the country. The other belonging to my fellow chap Rich AKA chunk, the one legged drift monster. His is coming off the road this month for a resto too so keep ya peepers peeled for another thread soon! You may want to change the title to a tale of at least 5 Hako's I know of five GC10's in the UK, including yours and Richard's ( excluding the coupes) and there could be more lurking around on our shores.. Here is one of them.. japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/garages/datsun-nissan-garage/16431-betty-the-hakopotamus-my-journey-to-skyline-ownership

I know there are a few coupes including an actual fo' real yo! Gt-r

This one was imported in 2001, it is owned by a lady called Rebecca in Wiltshire. It has never actually got on the road in the UK.

Apparently it is in horrendous condition, would need a lot of restoration to be mot-worthy so it just got put away in her garage. It is not a real GT-R , it is L series powered.

As with anything old, they do rot. There's been a few old skylines for sale here Inc one that was mostly made of filler. A chap from Peterborough who claimed to be the king of sourcing this stuff.
Nothing new to report due to manflu.

Do you know if she bought it as a good, solid GT or GT-X and was conned, or actually bought it as a GT-R and was completely ripped off ?

I don't think it was sold as a GT-R but it had a lot more filler and bodges than she was banking on! (And no she doesn't want to sell it)

Do you know if she bought it as a good, solid GT or GT-X and was conned, or actually bought it as a GT-R and was completely ripped off ? Arguably both... The truth is that poor Rebecca was the victim of her own mis-comprehension as well as the ignorance and greed of the UK-based company she chose to source a car from Japan for her. My first contact with her was after the car had arrived in the UK. She asked me to take a look at it as she was having some trouble starting it and she thought the wiring was a likely culprit. The car was in her back garden, and it soon became clear that it was a complete shed. The wiring was a complete mess, but so was the rest of the car. I suggested we take a closer look at the condition of the body, and in about 5 minutes I could - after peeling away several layers of fibreglass-based filler, cooking foil and newspaper - get my arm through both rear quarter/sill joints up to the shoulder, right by the rear trailing arm mounts (scary stuff). Some of the rear-end panels were clearly recent, but added over a completely rotten 'shell. Poking a little around the window frames and roof joints revealed a paper-thin lacework of metal and gaping holes covered with mesh and filler. I had to stop because it was all getting a bit silly. It was a cynical bodge-up that probably looked half decent in photos but didn't stand up to any inspection. I advised her to get a professional engineer's report (which she did, and it made scary reading) and to start legal proceedings against the supplying company (which - I believe - she started but didn't complete). As far as I am aware the UK-based company which sourced and supplied the car went into liquidation. Rebecca told me that she originally asked said company to source her a "Skyline GT-R", but it was clear she had very little concept of the correct model codes, mechanical specs and equipment on the C10-series cars. Clearly the supplying company was either equally ignorant or simply chose to take advantage of her. A sad and salutary tale all round...

Thanks for that, it's always good to know the whole story.
It would be nice to think that one day she can get the wherewithal to get it on the road.

I think she had some welding done on it a while back, but what it really needed was a complete bare-shell restoration, and it would be a big undertaking.
Like I say, a sad and salutary tale. All the more so considering the personal circumstances of the individual involved.

Also found this original GT-R horn pad in the bot. Gave it a clean up and threw it on a well known auction site. That's actually a stock GC10 'GT' steering wheel centre boss (not a GT-R item) made by Izumi, so it may well in fact have been the original factory item on your car...

My steering wheel has the correct gtx hornpad so not from this car. I may have been Ill advised of what it couldve been. So who was the importer of Rebecca's car?

I believe your car is a 'Kouki' (late) GC10T 'Skyline 2000GT', not a GC10TK 'Skyline 2000GT-X'. It appears that a previous owner 'upgraded' to a GT-X steering wheel, but everything else I see on the car from your photos says normal 'GT' spec. So who was the importer of Rebecca's car? 'Bonsai Cars'. Read 'em and weep: More sorry tales
