Finished milling the spacers today then used the belt sander to round the corners off. before that I finished the support brackets. cut the head of a countersunk screw down and secured it to the bracket with some washers and a nut. then welded it in and ground flush test fitted. Also realised the engine block in the car doesen't have the boss tapped I plan to use I will use the stud on the fuel pump mount instead.

Any updates? Looking forward to see how you go on. I've just gently removed the inlet manifold from a combined moggy manifold so I can use a mini inlet when I get round to fitting my new head etc.

Not really, need to fire up the gorge and make the support bars, got the TR and Lotus out today, I'd moved the Lotus a couple of weeks ago so that fired straight up, what was suprising is the TR which hadn't been started since November and also burst straight into life, While it was on the 4 poster I gave it a check over, all pretty good under there, gearbox is still leaking from the shift shaft, diff is weeping from back cover(really needs a new cover) the engine is also leaking, looks like heads to block, but I think its probably the valley gasket, none of the leaks are much though so I'll put up with them for now. Last time I used it I had trouble tuning the carbs, today I noticed there are drips of petrol out of the overflows, probably needs new Viton needle valves, only other issue and why it hasn't been used in the winter is the drivers window won't go up the last inch, pulled the winder out and it has a couple of teeth missimg, buidling them up with weld and cutting to shape will be a lunchtime job this week.

so this was the problem with the TR window regulator. so cleaned it up clamped a piece of flattened copper pipe under it, then built it up with weld. using a combination of the grinder and file got the arc and thickness OK. then just a matter of re-cutting the teeth using a slitting disc and files. seems to work OK, just need to shuffle the cars around so I can re-fit it.

So after re-fitting the regulator and finding the bracket on the glass fell of then leaving the glue between the glass and the bracket to dry overnight over a month ago I finaly got round to finishing it off yesterday. The terminal on the earth wire on the courtesy light dropped off so I fitted a new one. all back together, glass cleaned up and it winds up and down smoothly for the first time for many years. Also stuck the rubber channel end piece back on. and the end piece of the waist trim on the range rover which I cast in pu a few weeks ago. After that it was on to looking at why the AC on the wifes 2010 Fiesta doesen't work, fully expected it tl have no gas but if anything the static pressure looks too high, checking through the electrics turns out the earth wire to the compressor has a break somewhere in it, as this goes through the engine loom then the body harness to a terminal on the inner wing which is fine and there is mo way I am disturbing that lot an alternative was needed. 5 minutes later we had working AC. I hate that type of connector but as a proof of concept it works fine, I'll get a better terminal that supports the outer cable properly and a stainless or brass bolt at some point. As suspected it seems to be overcharged and is short cycling, I'll check for sure when a new seal arrives for my gauges.

Fiesta did have enough charge and after a bit of use has sorted its self out, other than that I've done little more than drive the cars, hopefully that will change now, yesterday I took voluntary early retirement. First will be to replace all the fuel lines, check the injectors and fit a new ECM and fan hub to the range Rover. Then new seat covers timing belt and AC condensor/ drier/ hoses to the mx5.
Also got 2 bathrooms and a kitchen to fit this summer plus my Daughter is just buying a house, I might need to go back to work for a rest!
That said I'm currently sitting in the car park of Kings Lynn hospital after the Father in law sat in the sun all day with no hat.....

Thanks,first week didn't go entirely to plan father in law was kept in and seems to have lost a significant amount of eyesight, hence 3 200 mile round trips (fortunately I keep my company car in retirment), the last being to recover his 2016 citroen C4, god awful thing fills up with diesel fumes and is no great drive, 120 miles in that is enough for anyone. When I got home I ordered £300 of parts for the mazda (belts waterpump seals etc), hope to hide down the garage for a day or 2 and get this done soon.

To de-stress we went away for a weekend, the wife got some god awful food poisoning and was ill for 3 weeks, she's almost over it now and the bathroom is almost finished, today I actually spent some time working on a car. The street Ka haa developed quite noticible torque steer, turns out the front bush in the control arm had failed, spent an hour or so fitting a new arm, good to get on the tools again even for something simple. got a pair to do on the fiesta next. Range Rover has been doing stirling service moving building materials, got a kitchen to fit over the next 2 weeks so not much car time.

Finally spent 1/2 hour on one of the cars today, now I've fitted a new bathroom here, knocked 2 rooms into one and fitted a new kitchen at the in-laws I'm now starting on my Daughters new house, It's not to bad but suffered the ususal bodges, so far I've re-routed most of the wiring to the sockets in line with the current safe zones rather than randomly spread around and behind skirting, ripped out 2 redundant and the current hot water system to move the tank into the loft and a load of shonky mismatched skirting. Most of it's being re-plastered starting on the 18th so it all needs to be in by then. The house is 18 miles away so I've been commuting there every day in the Range Rover, generaly it has been performing well, 15mpg is a bit expensive but it's only for a couple of weeks. One thing that has been really anoying is a loud rattle from the dash at around 60mph, the dash on these is a typical 70's hard plastic affair and fairly robust (the factory fitted aftermarket AC is terrible quality though), the only issue with the dash was one of he bottom screws had fallen out and easily fixed, the rattle though came from the instrument cluster, the bottom fixings for the facia were broken. so I cut these off which solved the rattle, one of the top two fixings was also broken. That was easily fixed with a couple of washers, for the bottom I resorted to 2 strips of foam. Currently it has a tumble drier and dishwasher in the back for tomorrow!

took 1/2 day off from the building and took the mazda for it's MOT, I only did a cursory pre check for lights etc but it has only done 2500 miles since the ladt MOT. It passed witb 3 advisories,small oil leak from the rear crank seal,Its done this for years not enough to drip only difference this year is I have left the undertray off, that can stay as it is, second point was perishing on the front drop link bushes, they have also been like this for years so I'm leaving them well alone until some play develops, finaly one that does need fixing, the rear pads are worn, a simple job though.
The Street Ka and my wifes 2010 fiesta need an MOT in the next month to, aside from changing the track rod end I changed 3 months ago and on which the boot has already rotted away, the Fiesta should be fine.
The Street Ka is another story,Last MOT they said it had a bit of play on one of the inner ball joints, not to bad If I can do it wiyh the rack in the car. I drove it yesterday and it gets noisy on RH bends. pretty sure the LH wheelbearing needs replacing thats going to be fun after 19 years of corroding in place, while I'm there the front springs are rusty and have sagged and the dampers are also pretty crusty, given it's only £110 for the lot so I'll change them as I'll be halfway there, also the heater doesen't fully turn off so a new valve for that as well that lot should keep me away from building for a couple of days!

replaced the Street Ka heater valve, a quick 20 minute job and nowcthe weather has gone south we have AC which works much better. Large pile of parts has arrived, new front springs, dampers, wheel bearing and a second hand knuckle/ bearing/ hub. Intention was to fit tje newcwheelbearing in the secondhand knuckle but the wheel bearing in it feels perfect and the knuckle had very little corrosion (ABS sensor even came out easily) so I don't think it's seen much use and will just fit the entire assembly, also needs 2 new front tyres, good job parts are cheap for these. On the TR we used it for a few journeys and my wife declared the ride do bad she was never getting in it again, It has 200lb dprings about a 30% up on standard and I thought the rear was hitting the rather hard aftermarket bump dtops but a quick look under the back revealed the axle is about 60mm clearvof them, then I thought I'd check the adjustable dampers, Both were on the hardest setting (I must have left them here when I freed off the adjusters a couple of years ago) the ride is transformed now, so I treated it to 4 new tyre. Her other complaint was exhaust smells, well you are never going to get rid of what comes out of the tailpipe but having the downpipes full of pin holes can't help, Rimmers still do downpipes for SD1 manifolds so that will be another £250. I also splashed out £700 on a Tornado ECM for the Range Rover, the Lucas 4CU is on it's last legs, particularly on cold start, hopefully might get some of the cost back on fuel savings as it seems to run rich everywhere except at high loads.

Still heavily onto my daughters house but the end is in sight. In preperation for going on holiday in it I splashed out £800 on a new Tornado ECU for the Range Rover, fitted it Thursday before we went away for a few days, good news is it runs much better and the mixture control actually does something etc, bad news is it's only running on 7 cylinders!. I'm pretty sure it's not the new ECU, It's been starting like this for a long while but usually clears when I rev it, It's also the same on LPG. I'll fit some new plugs when I get home which will hopefully fix it I suspect the root cause though is it has a leaky injector flooding a cylinder. Appart from a service the other job I need to do before we go is change the injector hoses, I also have 6 spare working injectors so I will drag out my Injector rig and select the best 8 from the 14, hoefully that will fix it for good.

Fiesta passed it's MOT (after a new set of tyres as 3 had cuts through the tread to the reinforcement)
Had a play with the range rover's new ECU, starts fine but doesen't run very well at all on it, I think it may be the injectors, the old one runs much richer, which I think masks the fact they are all over the place, Tomorrow I plan to pull them all out and from the 2 sets I have make one fairly well matched set, the hoses need changing anyway so it's something thats been on the cards for a long time.
Ka MOT is next Thursday so I've also got to change, both front springs/dampers, a knuckle(wheel bearing), and steering tie rod, that's what I know about before even getting it on the ramp, so could be a busy few days!

so today is the first day since I retired in May that I have spent a day on one of my hobby cars, task was to change all the rubber fuel hoses and pick the best matched set of injectors from the 16 I have. First remove the upper plenium. then the lower plenium then the injectors, rails and brackets. found the cause of the oil leak out of the idle valve.(its the lowest point in the breather). Fortunately I have a spare. pulled all the injectors off, measured them with my home made rig. they all flowed much the same but 3 were just a jet and one also dripped, so I re fitted the 5 good ones and the closest of the spares. checked for leaks (there were none) put the rest together. result: it runs much better on the old ecu but still only on 7 cylinders on the £800 new one I swapped them 3 times and it's exactly the same, I think it's going back!.

contacted the ECU supplier and they agree it must be a ECU fault, need to package it up and send it back. In the meantime with 8 matched good injectors it's running very well on the old ECU. Today has been on the Street Ka changed both front springs and dampers, one knuckle/wheelbearing and the Fead Belt. For a almost 20 year old car it all came appart easily, only thing which broke is the ABS sensor bolt sheared off and the sensor was broken, fortunately a good one came with yhe new/secondhand knuckle. one side done. using the 4 poster as a spring compressor saved a lot of time. block of wood jacked up under the spring seat made getting knuckle off easy. other side done. the FEAD belt was a nightmare though, no space to get to anything, even with the RH engine mount and the PAS reservoir removed it was a right fiddle, thought I might have to remove the headlamp which in turn means the bumper but after 6 or 7 attempts got it back on in the end, no more screaching now. also started fixing a couple of body work issues, a bit of surface rust on the sill, cleaned back to shiny metal and painted with zinc primer. front bumper where my son's camping trailer rolled into it. aim is tidy from 5 feet away, rattle can topcoat tomorrow. and 2 new front tyres should see it through another MOT.

As much as I miss the Sport KA I bought for the wife this reminds me how much of a pain it was to access anything and that's before you look at rust 😂

This is pretty good for rust, the only thing with any sign of rust underneath is the rear twist beam (its much better underneath than our 2010 fiesta). The street ka was made by pinninfarina and seems to be far better protected than the tin top ones made by Ford.
