spent a couple of hours out in the cold tonight, fortunately I used it today so there was plenty of heat still in the engine, Firstly I fitted and plumbed in the new fuel pressure regulator: Fuel pressure now correct at 38psi with the vacuum disconnected it stays at 2 bar when the engine is switched off and it idles smoothly as well, when I get the chance I will set the CO. Next up I started preparing to fit the Blos LPG regulator, to fit this the air cleaner is going to move forward, I drilled the welds off to remove the bracket and shortened the spout so this is possible. I have also decided to re-route some of the LPG components, at the moment the filter is in front of the relays so they can not be accessed, plan is to move it to just in front of the vaporizer and route the pipe out of the way above the relay box. Finally I used some celly thinners to get the adhesive off the the radiator where someone had stuck duct tape all over it before realising the cooling problem was actually a failed viscous fan.

Spent a hour or 2 setting and checking the rang rover fuel injection out, the vane air meter output voltages were spot on the specified ones, throttle pot was a little out but easily adjusted, temp sensor also spot on so with fuel pressure set at 40 psi it starts runs and drives very well.
Next up tidy the lpg and fit the blos, then back to bodywork.
Also need to paint the back wheels on TR and re-fit the headlamp motor on the lotus.

Some progress, the blos lpg mixer is installed on the rangie still needs setting up properly but seems to run and drive ok, the lpg pipework has been tidied up a little, still needs a couple more clips but I need to get some u nuts first.
On the lotus the mx5 headlamp motor is installed and all wired in, it works fine but the crank stroke is too long, easy enough to cut and shorten it but it was getting too late by the time I finished, should all be done tomorroW.
Also managed to spend a little time on the minor, the drivers door is now all built up again, the door seal is very tight at the front but it should be easy enough to move the door out a little on the hinges, just need to be able to move the lotus first so I can get the door fully open.

The BLOS really needs to be setup with a CO meter or on a rolling road (I know not ideal with a Rangie), they run and start really well even when badly adjusted. Don't forget to unscrew the stopper screw that holds the slide in an open position for transport, and your idle bypass screw on the vapouriser wants screwing right in - they pull enough vacuum not to need it.

Holy curse word, I thought MY Minor was a rusty pile of junk! Yours is practically a new car now! Nice effort.

Some time on the lotus today, headlamp lift motor fitted and working a treat. Then I got carried away and pulled the bumper off because it is slightly bent and one bolt has been pulled throug, my intention is to straighten it out as best I can, no point spending a couple of hundred pounds on a new one just for some clown to bend it again. I also plan to take the number plate letters off the grille and re paint it all as well.

Been doing various odds and ends this evening. Had to repair where the bumper had pulled through. a bit rough but it will do the job, usually I would blend it in over a larger area but I wanted to keep it hidden by the bumper. At the same time I thought I would reinforce behind the rh wheelarch which has been cracked since I bought the car 24 years ago, unfortunately when I cleaned it up it was mostly made of filler and a few bits fell out. . So I glassed some cloth in from behind. It wasn't going off in the cold so I hasd to put some heat on it. When it's dried I will clean the outside up feather in a layer of cloth followed by tissue. While that was drying I started on the rear doors I have bought for the range rover, the originals are lacking most of the bottom, one was pretty badly dented but i got virtually all of it out, Also whatever was supposed to hold the quarterlight in had disolved. So I folded up a piece of stainless to do the job. Hopefully a bit more tomorrow.

more fiberglassing this afternoon, lotus wheelarches Ground back to the substrate and cloth layed over the top, also found another small crack near the front was a lump of filler so that got the same treatment. Unfortunatelly the paint is pretty thick so I will have to use filler to level it out but at least it will start to look better again. I also took a brave pill and set to a very annoying star crack right in the middle of the bootlid, sanded it back to the matting then added a layer of tissue, the paint here is much thinner though becase I replaced the rear end after an accident a few years ago, the star crack is where the manufacturer had let the drill bit punch through when drilling the latch hole in the inner panel, it appeared about a month after I painted it. next up was a thin layer of alloy based filler over the repaired areas of the range rover doors, I basically skimmed the entire area I had taken paint off. . Finaly I put what passes for a number plate back together after painting it all.

The repaired areas have now been given a skim of filler and blocked back. Next up will be a coat of barcoat which I find prevents sinkage then some high build primer.

Went to the nec yesterday and mothers day today so not much this weekend, the lotus has had a coat of isolator on the repaired areas and some stone chip under the bumper (the original was flaking off you can see it in the pictures.) This week plan is to take the bootlid off and prime all the repaired areas and then clear up and hopefully topcoats next weekend. The insurance is also due on mx5 so I gave it a wash and polish for the photos.

The lotus is ready to paint at the weekend, bootlid is off and I have tidied up the garage, in the meantime I have been brush painting the inner wings of the minor so incan permanently fit the rear wings, also more progress on the range rover doors,I have been over the crusty bits with a cup wire brush, the bottoms were fine but one did have some rust in the double skinned front section. It turned out what looks like a bit of surface rust was also perforated so I ended up welding in 2 patches. A bit late to grind the welds back so that will be done tomorrow. Also found a bit of a problem, Spot the difference, one is an early door the other a later one with a different hinge bolt pattern, fortunately it looks like I will just need to re-drill the holes, the check arm is in the same place as are all the internal fittings.

Got the top coats on the lotus today, g Needs wet sanding and polishing but pretty pleased with the result, i'll leave it for a week or 2 before though. Also did a little on the minor, one rear wing is now fitted, and I have painted behind the dash, I have noticed a few areas of thin paint inside though, hopefully I can Touch these in using my airbrush. Also got the TR out for the first time this year, all works well but it needs a really good clean up and the back wheels painting to match the front. Finally the welds ground down on the door.

The range rover doors are noiw primed , guide coated and flatted back, ready for topcoats hopefully tomorrow. I have also been using the TR most days for work this week, no problems and all seems well, it also needs a bit of tidying up, mainly the drivers door which is the wrong colour and one rear wing which had a paint reaction. nor

Painted both rear doors and I am pretty pleased with the results, just the rest of the car left now. I also took the top trim off the tailgate because of a couple of small blisters to find this Given the bottom is also rusted out and prodding around the number plate lights made more holes I think it could be time to find a better panel rather than spend hours rebuilding this one.

I've ordered a better tailgate, a few bits of surface rust but no holes apparant, £75 but it would probably cost me virtually that much in metal, welding materials filler and paint to make something out of the old one.
I also started prepping the front doorscand wings for paint, all went well until I removed the drivers door rubbing strip, these are suposed to be fixed with tape and my plan was to go retro and do away with them, problem is someone has used 5 self tapping screws through the door skin to hold it on, Tig w thelming up is just going to distort the alloy skin, so I need to find a way to fill them in, was thinking of using something impervious to water like epoxy, any one any better ideas?

Been away for the last few days, we spent 3 Days driving around the south coast in the eunos great weather roof down most of the time, as usual it didn't miss a beat, including an hour and half queuing at the Dartford tunnel on the way back.
This afternoon I polished up the paint repairs on the lotus and managed to screw it up by gouging the surface so that was re-painted, also took the back wheels off the TR and started to prep them for painting to match the fronts.
I also started on the secondhand tailgate for the range rover, it was pretty cheap (£50) because it had some rust, the main area was around one number plate lamp, so I cut this flat area out, there are also a few localised repairs along the bottom and one corner of the skin is deeply pitted so I may replace that as well, sounds a lot but a fraction of what it would take to sort out the original.
In amongst all of this I am also fitting a new kitchen including building the cupboards from scratch to to my wifes design!

Time is my biggest problem, tends to be an hour or two grabbed a couple of evenings a week and one day at the weekend. Todays progress is: the other 2 TR wheels painted Lotus front wing paint repairs finished: I wasn't happy with boot lid finish so I did it again: Then I fitted the first of the rear doors This is why, the old one was full of rust, the latch was held in with vast clods of filler. Fitting it all went pretty well, I used the latch which came with the new door as the original will take some cleaning up, the only problem is the window does not go up and down without a helping hand so some more work is needed.

replaced the window lift motor with the one which came with the door and it all works fine, not sure why but at least it works! Also fitted the new LH mirror so now everything electrical seems to work (don't suppose it will last for long!)
