I've been given a full quote for a complete system, including the coil pack ignition. Should I take there options, or is the ford edis better?
I have no throttle body yet, they've also quoted me for iat sensor stuff, do I buy it knowing I will have to sort it anyway ?
I would ask them but the time difference makes it a long process

EDIS module is no better/worse, ultimately they do the same thing. With an upgraded MS2 you get the 2 coil drivers inside the case which makes it neater. Not sure what trigger wheel you have on at the moment but bear in mind that for EDIS you need a 36-1 tooth wheel. BUT you can pick up an EDIS-4 module, coilpack & connector cheap from any scrappy.
There seem to be more plug-and-play type setups being sold these days, which make the job easier if you can afford the extra they add on. [an unassembled MS2-v3 kit or microsquirt v2 board is ~$270 (£165) from DIYautotune]

I'm also reading this (and any other threads with mention of Megasquirt) with great interest, as I'm halfway through building my MS2 V3 for the Trump. The mechanical side of building it is simples, but I always come unstuck with trying to load the firmware. Mostly because I have no idea what they're talking about!

Pork, what ignition system does your car currently use? Presuming you'll be using Ms2, or Ms1 with the v3 board and extra firmware update…. If your engine has any sort of crank angle sensor, Megasquirt can be configured to use it. If it's got a distributer with electronic advance, then Megasquirt can control that if you don't need any bigger brighter sparks. If theres a later version of your engine that uses a crank/cam angle sensor you could get one from a breakers and configure Megasquirt to use it. Lastly, if none of the above are options you can mount a 36-1 trigger wheel on the front pulley and use a hall sensor wired directly to Megasquirt.
Buy a couple of coil driver mod-kits, which are wired into the v3 board and fit inside the case, and then Megasquirt can drive any direct drive coil pack. The DIY auto tune coil pack is good but equally you probably don't need anything special. Lots of people use the Ford Focus/Ka ones about £15 new from eBay. (note if you were using the hall sensor from an electronic distributer for your input you'd need to keep the single coil and distributer, as Megasquirt will just know it's time to fire a spark, not which cylinder to send it to!)
MrSpeedy, whats happening when you try to load the firmware, it's normally much more trouble free doing so in Ms2 than for Ms1. Are you using a serial to USB adapter?

Essentially yes, but you just need to know what type of sensor it is (hall/VR/optical) and have an appropriate trigger wheel. If you're ordering a whole bunch of bits for DIYautotune, then you might as well pick up one of their crank sensors. They're about $40.
I ordered myself a new Ms2 from diyautotune yesterday, to go on an engine thats got points & carbs at the moment. I'll be using a crank angle sensor from diyautotune, ordered a 36-1 trigger wheel from trigger-wheels.com as they have a larger selection of wheel sizes. I'll be using the coil driver mod kit to run wasted spark on a cheap Chinese copy of a ford focus coil pack from eBay.

I can't remember 100% what was going on. I threw a bit of a hissy fit at it 3 weeks ago and haven't touched it since. Yeah, using an adapter cable. IIRC I was having trouble simply downloading the firmware to my laptop and never even got as far as trying to upload it to the cpu. I'll have another go when I get a couple of hours 'quiet time' and see what happens.

Good luck for your next attempt! Megasquirt can be quite sensitive to UBS serial adapters, make sure the adapter is plugged directly into the computer, with no USB extensions. Sometimes people have problems with in correct buffer and stop bit values in the computer (access preferences at control panel/system/device manager) but probably best to google/search the forums about that. The best place to download the firmware from is either www.msextra.com/doc/index.html , also available at www.diyautotune.com/softwarelinks.htm

I am turbocharging my Hillman powered Irish Clan, I am using Honda CBR600 throttle bodies, Suzuki injection fuel pump and Fiat Twin air turbocharger.
My question on ebay I have seen a new megasquirt equivalent capable of running the ignition, fuel injection, turbo, built in 3 bar map, narrow bandwidth CO2 etc for £160.00pr offers.
I have email the company with my details, their feed back is good is this to good to be true, or would I be better of paying a little more £290 to trigger wheels ?

Can you put a link up - it might give people more of an idea, Can you map it with the Tuner Studio that MS uses?

Yes it uses tuner studio his ebay username megasquirt_performance, I have emailed him Link is here for a previous one ebay linkI think it is basically a clone/ copy of a MS but without the firmware loaded, which is i guess how they are getting round copywrite or whatever as MS isn't opensource. I guess it must be very very close to being a MS if they are planning on you using the firmware download designed for megasquirt, as they don't mention what firmware it is designed to run/ what they can supply and it would be pretty useless without.
