I couldnt remember what samba was until i clicked the link for this thread. Now i remember my primary school teacher had one in dark blue. Full on poverty spec. I really like these barn find threads. Looking forward to seeing all the dust cleaned off.

Unleaded fuel, it should be fine for a while as the exhaust valves will have built up a coating of lead from use - this is called lead memory. It will wear off after around 10k miles of normal driving, so you can then start using an additive if you're still running the original engine and you're worried. Personally I would imagine you won't need it however. Good luck with it, I find it really interesting reading about deep-slumbering finds being resurrected like this.
Don't forget to squirt oil down each bore through the spark plug holes to lubricate the rings before you turn it over!

Scott your a legend thanks so much for this info. My phone has translated the whole site and I'm reading through now, they talk about every model and spec and I've only glanced at it, hours of reading here
But yes this is a build thread. I received all the rear brake parts now and just waiting on the weather to allow me to start work on the drums, I've cleaned her down now too and have replaced old tires that have perished. Hopefully this weekend if it's dry I'm/we are going to drain the 21 year old oil, find a battery, check the points etc and with fresh oil go for an engine start, fingers crossed everyone

Properly cool, nice one mate. Didn't know about the spare under the bonnet! My Dad got smacked in his Renault 16 and apparently the underbonnet spare saved him :-)
Just a thought, I saw a Samba Rallye in France with 205 GTI Speedlines on it...so is it possible to change to 4 stud?...205 Rallye steelies would fit then too, maybe would give more options.

On the thought of wheels... You say that the PCD is 3x115. Just wonder if it would actually be 3x114.3 (4.5")
If that was the case, what about fitting a set of D40 Navara wheels, as they are 6x114.3? Just a silly thought..

Good luck feller:-) A bit more research in required with reference to converting her to four stud hubs, if i could do this it would open the door to a lot of cool rims, or i band my existing steels and spray them white perhaps and keep the Talbot centers black, some say this could like quite cool like the Rallye did but not exactly |

Why not just get the 5 spokes from the S ?
NB Being essentially a French car the PCD will be 115 not 4.5"

Could certainly be a cool looking car, worked with someone years ago who had a few mates who had an ex-works rally samba which they used to campign in local events, it had twin side draft webers and huge exhaust exiting along the side it used to shot flames out of the exhaust on overrun and scare the living daylights out people, but bloody fun  |
