I also think those totally 80s flat speakers and stereo need to stay as they are and just have another separate "modern" system hidden elsewhere in the car for your listening pleasure. Its all in the detail and keeping that 80s look And that, as they say, is gospel...!!! That sounds system is perfect for this little critter and should stay right where it is.

Or replace it with better quality 80's kit. Some seriously good stuff was made back then and it often turns up on ebay for peanuts. I got an 80's competition spec Kenwood head unit a while ago for £20. Just need an 80's car to put it in!!

Hi, just re-found this board and your thread. The car looks very good - nice to see people looking after them now. I bought my first Samba in 1989 and have pretty much had one ever since (at one point I had 3) so I know a fair bit about them. Feel free to ask if (when) you get stuck. Mine have all been rally cars - pic of the current one is below (1360cc on twin 40 DCOE's, close ratio 'box, 750kg,.. suffice to say it goes pretty well ). Good luck with the project.

Very nice.
Gr.B arches? - Have you got wishbones on the front too?

Thanks. Yes, Gp B arches. No, not the pukka wishbone setup - std TCA's, wheel spacers and the 6" Amils fill the arches quite nicely. Plus easier to repair if you hit anything (it is a competition car after all).

Hey guys I'm still here i promise!
Uncle Silvia has slapped me back into action. Been quiet for nearly a year and I apologize. Samba still in good hands and safe. Shes now has a cleaned fuel tank and fresh brakes all round. However i need an engine as we have now come to the conclusion that the little 1.0 litre has seen better days and I want to put the 1300 in it with a nice carburetor setup. The engine found its way into the Pug 104's and Citroen Visa's, however i couldn't comment if the mounting are the same ?
Any help this way is appreciated, thread re awoken!!

Any help this way is appreciated, thread re awoken!! 104 and Visa mountings are the same as the Samba. The engine can also be found in early 205's and BX14's - mountings are different but you just unbolt the 205/BX mounts and bolt the Samba ones on.

hey, only just spotted this thread.
I have a 104 z, shame you planning on getting rid of the project would be great to see it finished. I spotted at the start of the thread someone had some group b rallying brochure for the 104. Did you ever get a copy, as ive been after a copy for the last year to help modifying my pug.

my first car was a samba. binned the 954 lump in favour of a 1360 from an axgt then fitted twin solex downdraft carbs from a visa gt I believe. loved it to bits.

Seeing this thread has also kicked me up the bum, I have a pair of Samba Rallye front seats somewhere. I was going to fit them to the Escort but the track of the runners is quite narrow iirc, must find them and check.

Great thread this.... just read it from the start. I have recently stumbled across a Samba convertible in a barn in France. The wife and I are buying a holiday home down in the SoF and the guy selling us the house has got barns full of classic cars. Must have about 30 of them. In one of his barns I spotted a metallic red Samba convertible, which looked in very solid condition. The wife wants a topless car to use when we're over there so I have my eye on this (but haven't told her yet!). I would imagine from the dust build-up it has been in there for at least a decade, and being located so far south I would imagine it has rarely seen any rain... No salt on the roads either. I had a quick poke about and it looks solid externally, almost mint in fact, but I haven't had a look inside or under the carpet/rear seat yet; I know this is a known rust spot for these. The soft top looks mint. Having done a bit of research I believe that colour and the optional (horrid) 3-spoke wheels means it is one of the last ones made, and the French version had the 80bhp 1360cc lump(?) Could make for a nice summer run-about for her, with a bit of fun behind the wheel for me also. I quite like the Amil wheels you see on these (and 104's).
