Update. Ive got the engine turning over with the plugs out after spraying a little oil down the holes to allow the rings to wake up easier. Starter motor and general engine noise sounds good whilst turning over, however offering a plug up to the body work there's no spark and the leads are shot. So new plugs and leads first. Don't really know if the coil works. How easy is it to set up the points on the 954cc as it looks like ill be removing the water header tank to get to the thing. Would anyone have any spark plugs or leads/coils i could pinch off them ?
As for the wheels Ive decided I'm going ahead of myself and I'm just concentrating on getting her road worthy first on the original wheels etc. Need to get that little engine going? Something i did notice when changing the oil was the sump plug magnet was all furry from metal bits in the oil, however I'm pretty sure its the second gear syncro that's gone as its noted in the service history that it needs doing like 20 years ago lol
The rear brakes have now all been rebuilt with new cylinders and a general inspection of all moving parts and rubbing down the shoes to roughing them up, holding my breath of course! The only problem is i can seem to get the drums back on again. I assume its an interference fit and the shoes will wear in as i drive it ?

Furry sump plug is nothing to worry about. Worry when you find bits of piston ring clinging to it!
The points are a pig to get to and you will have to remove the header tank. I'd very seriously consider converting it to electronic ignition with the bits from a pre 87 205.
I haven't forgotten those scans BTW - just 'proper' work has got in the way

Ill need to find a pre 87 205 dizzy first too lol And yeah I'm not worried about some fur on the plug, pretty sure its gearbox. Ill wait for your email mate, thanks

My goodness me that is looking tremendous...!!! Just a clean works wonders and it pretty much makes this look like new. The solidity of this car is shockingly good! I am loving every step of this re-birth.

I am loving every step of this re-birth. I know!!! But the photos are making her look slightly better. In the flesh there are scratches and a couple of dings but overall a good polish will bring that 80s un faded red back. I'm just so pleased with the shear original condition she is in from factory, no restoration work has taken place. If this was a mk1 Golf, it would be worth money, but these particular Talbots haven't really received a value on the retro scene. But its not about the money for me I'm enjoying car for what it is and what people will think when they see it, because these cars will be a child hood memory to most people in their 30s......

FDSS = Flat Diaphragm Speaker System
They use a flat panel instead of normal cones. Probably sound dreadful!!

Ah i see, i will change them then i haven't even heard the radio as not sure if it works i will try it out when I'm up at the car next. I ll measure the speakers and fit some modern ones but keep these for originality

Those wheels are winning for this car.
Caught bits of this on Facebook from Scott but I've only just checked it out, brilliant rescue and such a funky little car. Beautifully designed little supermini the Samba I think.

Christ that stereo takes me back, and the speakers I'm sure I got speakers like that from a catalogue (Freeman's type) back in the 80's.

Beautifully designed little supermini the Samba I think. Sorry but those wheels are accounted for on my car/cars lol. Wouldn't fit on Slamba anyway as they are far to wide. In those pics they were offered up without the hubs/drums fitted so would stick out at least 4" from the body looking a bit much lol..... but agree would look cool. I also think those totally 80s flat speakers and stereo need to stay as they are and just have another separate "modern" system hidden elsewhere in the car for your listening pleasure. Its all in the detail and keeping that 80s look
