Some interesting points from this. Always enjoy a good thread / discussion etc. Anyway R.I.P. TVR's built in the UK - you can debate the build quality and whatever all day long but they sure win the performance for pound category and I can confess to rolling down the window whenever one passes me for a listen to that burbling V8. Just hope somebody decides not to sell any more establshed British companies / marques just for a quick foreign buck. Don't sell off all family silver or we'll have nothing but cheap foreign tat!!

However The Sv was not manufactured by rover it was handled by Mg Sport and Racing which is a separate company with sparate funding. It was still part of MGR - where else did the funding come from?? It had to be built separately as it wasn't suitible to be built at Longbridge. A warmed-over De Tomaso / Qvale Mangusta is hardly high tech....

Yeah your right, but there was very little investment made into the Sv, because there were no real development costs, there were minor investments for the racing team but Twr had alot to do with Sport and racing, but i don't know too much about that though. It wasnt very high tech, but it was bloody quick!!! I know because i was lucky enough to have driven one.

Zr's were very good cars handled very well. The v8s were sold but only breifly, didnt sell that well due to them being under powered. The original plan was to have a 385ps and 500ps models but that never happened due to problems cooling the diffs??? Which was due to the unnamed company!! The company delivered what they were contracted to do, the fact that they were only contracted to do half a job and delivered on that is hardly their fault. The Powertrain installation was "Black Box" Mustang, with no changes allowed.... The Original Donor Mustang (Brand new) Had an oil pressure light on after 4 laps of the test track and was cooking all its fluids including the diff..... so Hardly the fault of the people doing the work when the Base donor vehicle is not up to scratch and rover wanted better handling from theirs All of this was explained on numerous occasions, but was met with "No - Black box install, no mods to the powertrain at all" from Rover I was there at that time (Although working on another project) and working with Rover (Who didnt understand the full implications of what they were trying to produce) was very difficult for the engineers involved. I now work with some Ex Rover Engineers who were managers at the time involved in that project on the rover side, the full story is less one sided than you may have been led to believe, and according to them, in hindsight there were many mistakes and oversights in the original proposal from Rover and the whole thing was handled very badly. The Fallout from it was considerable. The Demise of MG Rover was underway way before BMW got involved, I am not saying they did a lot of good for Rover, but they are not to blame for the entrenched beliefs and working practices that resisted change either Perhaps they just decided to cut their losses and left the infighting and apathy to do the rest........
