Thanks Qwerty. Got the brake pipes back from Speedflow, chose blue for continuity as there are a few other blue parts under the bonnet. I had to make brackets to secure them to the suspension upright with P clips. New driveshaft gaiters fitted and everything bolted up both sides I had a bit of trouble with the pipe thread adapter not sealing very well in the N/S caliper, its a taper thread so with a brass taper fitting into the ally caliper is never going to be tight so wound it in as little as possible but it kept leaking overnight, now fixed. Rear pipes from Goodridge as they were the only firm that could do the block the pipe uses to mount to the body, and a coat of paint for the rear calipers to match the fronts. Not a great fan of these things but the Rover is fitted with a bayonet brake master cylinder cap so bought the eezibleed and universal adapter, that is not universal enough for Rover, so had make brackets to get it to work. Lots of small jobs also done inside and outside the car, sun visors refitted around the cage, wiring refitted and routed through the car, undersealed the rear floor and turrets where the cage welding had burned off the protection. Thats where its at for now.

Thanks Shampoo. After the cage was fitted new seats and harnesses were fitted, that was about 2 years ago, it still hasnt moved but several youtube motorsport crash vids later has inspired me to strengthen the floor where the harness mounts attach. So next jobs in the cramped garage is to get the car up high on stands and weld some steel plates to the floors and add a bit more to the seat mounts.

The lap belts had been attached to the floor by eye bolts screwed through the footwell into captive nuts welded to your standard small square back plates, something I fitted quickly years ago, probably ok in a low spend bump but in any kind of heavy impact or roll completely useless. Though the backplates were tacked on my guess is the footwell would deform causing to much slack in the lap belts or even pull the eyebolt and backplate clean through. The plan was to add these plates in 3mm mild steel and weld them to the underside of the footwells. But after a bit of staring decided this would only prevent the eye bolt pulling through, the footwell could still pull up under load and still not strong enough. So looked at the original factory fixings for the rear belts that just so happened to be positioned perfectly for the shoulder belts to attach to, this panel is solid, it is at least double skinned and judging by the number and positions of the spot welds there is more bracing behind. Plan B is to make much bigger plates so the footwell is double skinned over a larger area underneath between the seat crossmembers. Templates for 2mm thick plates,

Really like the way you're doing this, my old man had one when they were new, seriously under-rated cars.
Good work sir, any updates?

Thanks for your comments vonthrash and jeffeRS. Nothing very exciting to update about, the car is almost ready to go back on the road so been doing a bit of tidying up. Repainted a mirror cap that had peeled the lacquer, removed the rear bumper to replace another damaged side bracket, removed 1kg from the main bumper bracket with some trimming. New tailgate struts, off a BMW which has reduced the opening height to forehead level, tested twice by my thick skull. The floor reinforcement plates are ready for welding. and thats where its up to for now.

Also trying to get the interior to look respectable again, after ripping everything out for a few years to save weight I'm now trying to get some of it back in, the front part of the cabin at least. The dash will never look factory again but if I can get the dash, door trims and a few other bits back in as best I can, I'm hoping to keep that plush Rover look and atmosphere, The new bucket seats are intentionally Recaros as the original interior was Recaro, I'm trying to find a black leather handbrake gaiter to cover the mechanism and put the original radio and front speakers back. Couple of pictures of the dash looking a bit tatty but the door panels are in very good condition and the cage was built round them.

MOT is booked for the 13th December, its been off the road and in bits in the garage since 2007 other than a brief trip to Andy Robinson when the cage was fitted in 2010. Got these hard compound tyres to go on next week as well as welding the floor plates then its fingers crossed. I made a short walk round video of the car (pre wash) in the garage.

Not caught up with this thread for a while. Really like your belt and braces approach to the harness mounting points.

Not caught up with this thread for a while. Really like your belt and braces approach to the harness mounting points. Thanks qwerty, welding is done and the tyres are fitted but didnt get round to doing the MOT yet. After 7 years in the garage and lots of changes it was bit of a shock to drive again. Its a pig to start at 7am in the morning on 7 year old fuel as my neighbors will confirm. With no heating or ventilation, windscreen misting on the inside and icing on the outside is an issue, made worse by the fact when strapped in with a harness you cannot lean forward to clean the screen. The seats are mounted low (BTCC style), great for low centre of gravity but not so great with a low winter sun in your eyes. The water pump started leaking half way through the welding and I need to reset the air bag/SRS light or do away with the air bag altogether. Other than that it was great to drive again, it felt rock solid on the road with the 1200lb springs on the front, the brakes felt good and the sound of the turbo winding up made up for all of the above.

I really do like this car. Oh no you don't. Oh yes I bloody do. Well finally got the MOT done today, fully road legal again from the 1st of March, still got a never ending list of jobs to do but thats normal I suppose. I need pictures of the car for my insurance, just straightforward sides, front and back etc, so also got a few others while I had the camera before everything is covered in dust and dirt (and oil, its a Rover) Front suspension and brakes, already covered in salt and road dirt after just 40 miles. and finally an attempt at porn.

Ride height looks fine to me, cracking work, remember serving my time on these in a Rover main dealer in the 90's, imagine they must be getting very rare now ?

Thanks Adam and Mark, the front at least needs to come down a few mm to level it out, the front has been apart and new springs so will let it settle for a week or two then tweak it.

Thanks qwerty, now fully road legal. Funny how as you get older safety matters more, I almost forgot to pad the roll cage around the head areas so got that done yesterday. So it got its first proper drive out today to the Walton Bridge breakfast club meeting organised by grifterkid. Turned out to be a beautiful sunny morning with lots of amazing cars in attendance. Although it sounds daft the target was just to make it there and back with no problems, which it did, plenty of noises for me to investigate over the next few weeks and the fuel is still an issue before I can do a track day, but thats what I am looking forward to.
