I know its not really a retro car yet but it is close, the first Rover 820 was available in 1986, mine is a 1994 model. I have owned four and really like the old barges. I bought this as a standard and very good condition car at 6 years old with about 80,000 miles on the clock and its been brilliant, then I fell into the trap of making a few changes, then a few more and now its become a time and money pit like I suspect most of the cars on here. This is the car soon after I bought it About a year in, lowered all round and exhaust replaced. About 3 years later, lowered some more, 6 spoke sport wheels, and cooling for the intercooler through the front bumper. This is the current engine (around 2012) This was taken March 2015 A short video taken spring 2015. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but its my pride and joy.

Thanks for the positive comments chaps. Yep the engine is a turbo'd Rover 2litre T16 bottom end but with an earlier M16 twin cam race head. Being front wheel drive and bit of a lump it struggles initially of the line but once its rolling it goes well. Another engine pic This is at Santa Pod and at Castle Combe

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

I agree with loudandproud205 rovers are so under estimated. I had a rover 620 once and i would have one again no question.

I've done loads of head gasket on the m16 and t16 engines. My old boss at a garage i worked at had a 820 turbo we chipped it and done some other bits to it. I took it home one weekend and took my mate out in it for a spin he thought it would have bet his tuned escort rs turbo. I was looking for a 420 turbo about found a nice 420gsi and loved it loads of fun about that was back in later ninties.

Please tell me this is the 820 that won the handling circuit at TOTB a few years ago Proper under estimated cars, loved my saloon 800 Vitesse Yes, Ten of the best 3 in 2004. I built a gearbox for top speed and changed a few other parts specially for the event but only got it back together a couple of days before so it hadnt been tested. At Elvington I went straight out and did a 1/4 mile but it was hesitating and cutting out. Anyway made some adjustments and repairs but the only place I could test it was the handling curcuit, so did 2 or 3 laps, it was better but it still had a fault so retired to the pits for the afternoon. Thats when I found out I had done the fastest FWD lap, so I spent the rest of the afternoon watching the Fords, Honda's, Fiats, Rovers and Andy Nichols trying to beat the time. I ended up with a poor 1/4 mile time, no top speed but won the handling. Thanks again for the comments. Rover 420 turbo has to be one best factory sleepers, rare even back in the nineties, I havent seen one for years.
