After a much loved 1994 micra k11 (cheap to insure, bullet proof and a lot of fun), and a nasty corsa b 1.7 diesel (my parents were getting rid of it when some grotbag stole my micra), i decided I wanted something older, as it would stand out, and would be easier to fix. I was looking at mk1/2 fiestas and polos for ages when I came across this on ebay It was already lowered and looked in great nick and was also going very cheap. something in me just said, buy it! so I bid and won! Now its my pride and joy

lush wheels on the sprite - what are they? They're 13" x 5.5J Mambas - usually seen in 10" flavour on Minis cheers they look great like a mutated ford rs 4 spoke reckon they'd look smart on a mk1 escort

Much older than the RS wheels! There was a set of Ford fitment ones on ebay a couple of weeks ago, that didn't sell, so may be worth chasing that up? clicky

Sticking to Retro/important(to me) cars here.
My first car was a Mk5 Fiesta. I fitted a 1.7 and learnt loads from this. Gave me the confidence to go after something older. the Mk1 XR2 I picked up fit the bill. Wanted to stick with something similar to my first car but also something from my childhood so at the time the Mk1 Fiesta, with good copy/genuine parts still available was a good choice. Prices have climbed in recent years though.
A friend had a Volvo 360 and it was pretty cool, then one came up at work for pennies with low miles, rare saloon GLT, FVSH including a Diary of each time the elderly owner drove it and long T&T. It was a little Gem. Wish I never sold it. Would have it back now!!
My late childhood dream was a 200sx S14a so I bought one as a daily. - The only car I have ever bought that wasn't cheaper than average/a bargain.
Pursuaded the other half to get into drifting and she bought a 325i SE. Love that. Rough example but still has E30 cool points. Dislike the E36. don't know why, love almost all other BMW shapes, new and old.
Because of the older/project cars being broken or going to car events without T&T etc we bought a sensible daily to tow them with. Mk3 Mondeo Ghia x
Thats about it. Nothing amazing, nothing finished (lol) and nothing that's guna win any awards, but our little lot and I love them. [Although I'd swap it all for a KGC10]

r9_front by renault9gta, on Flickr It was sad-looking, I'd never seen one here, turns out they're rare and it was cheap. Plus apparently I bought it to test my patience. --Phil

Obscurity, price and locality. My Ax GTi was cheap, rare and local. I was looking for a 205 GTI or 106 XSI but came across the Ax instead. The owners club was the main reason I still have it. My Polo was bought for similar reasons as was the Toledo V5 I used to have. The Toledo was so much more exclusive than a Leon/Golf/Bora/Octavia, full of equipment and quick. Miss that car, prefer it to my superior but soulless Octavia VRS.

The neighbours to our farm had a red mk2 Escort that was their paddock basher. That's where it all started. But it wasn't till we moved over to England for a few years that the urge to get an Escort for myself came on. It was standing in the drizzle in a Yorkshire forest listening to the engine noise bouncing around the hills that sold it for me. So when we came back to Australia the hunt started, and as they say, the rest is history. Not quite the rorty tree dodger I was after to begin with

I was getting fed up of shovelling £90 of fuel into the R5 GTT every week so when I was offered a swap for a non-running Corolla I jumped at the chance. Only thing I miss is how quick the Renault was, hopefully going to rectify that this year with a heart transplant for the KE....
As for the Escort, I really really really regretted selling my old one, especially with all the parts I'd amassed for it. So when this one was offered to me I couldn't say no and struck up a pretty decent deal. Now all I need is somewhere to work on them....

honestly (this is my 3rd one) the first one I picked up as I needed a bigger car (newborn daughter and the modern stilo was not big enough to go away in) so onto ebay found one (i am a fiat man and wanted a 20v), told him I would hand over some pound notes, and picked it up, the drive home made me like it even more, got it serviced (this was december 2005) got AA and then drove to scotland init, did not miss a beat, then I modded it, and sold it, regretted it and bought another which caught fire (it was a later one with fancy vis and I hated it) and then bought my wagon that I have now, modded it and love it, was gonna sell it but I just cant so its staying and getting some more money thrown at it and thats it really.... my first one, named "the Rat" my second one never got a name for it!! and my current one known as "the Wagon" and how they looked when i got them

... and on a Fiat theme ... Because it's the only car that met my criteria: Cheap to buy and maintain Reliable and does over 40mpg Can seat three people and have tons of 'stuff' in it at the same time, such as tents and bikes Large enough to move the odd bit of furniture around Reasonably good drive The fact that it's odd-looking and increasingly rare is just a bonus. I have way more plans for it that cash at the moment, so it's totally bog standard, For now.

I bought this because I was 18 and could insure it cheaply with good tuning and look prospects I bought this because I have always dreamed of having one and the fact it done 0-60 in 4.9 standard , and this one had 100BHP more than standard, Bought this after the GTR as I wanted a cheap retro for under £1000 and loved the look of it bought one of these as my brother had one when I was younger and I loved it! (not mine in pic but my brothers , on ramps as usual)

I wanted one for years and it's still the car that I think is the best all-rounder for me. 14years and counting.

because i wanted an mx5 that i could rip apart due to it being as rotten as a compost heap. And christ knows 4 million mazda parts are better than a working car. In all seriousness ive wanted one for a decade. Never got round to it. Found a fubard one cheap. Realised it was too fubard. Panicked. Bought new shell. Panicked more. Now I'm rebuilding it.

The Chevy Blazer was bought as it's always been one of my dream cars. This one turned up locally for a bargain price shortly after a pleasant surprise from work - it was just meant to be! The Lexus was purchased as I wanted something big, comfy, reasonably cheap and fast to take the family to France on holiday in after I scrapped my Jeep. The Discovery was bought as it was local, the Mrs wanted a seven seater 'on standby' in case her childminding took off and (most importantly) I can't help myself ;D No pics tho!
