I'm hoping that you fine people can help me with a bit of research that I'm doing please? I love BMW's. Older BMW's anyway. In particular I have a bit of a thing for the e21, the original and best 3 series. I've always liked them and the little touches like the twin tailpipe exhausts on the 323 and shark-nose front. I started driving them though, because they were cheap! Cheap to buy and cheap to run. In driving them though, I grew to like them even more, to the point where I own 3 of them and drive one every day of my life. I can't honestly envisage ever being without one. So, my question is this. What is your car and what made you choose it over another? Could you include a single picture with your answer too please?

Does the fact it was free count? If that's your reason, then yes. Thanks for responding.

Honestly? I've 'inherited' my last two cars from my girlfriend. They were a mk1 Fiesta and my current B4 Passat TD. I wouldn't have chosen either but I can see the merit of both.
The last car that I really wanted was my Volvo 240. The reasons were that it was incredibly cool, already on LPG and already on decent suspension.. And because I could. Who needs more reason than that ;D

By the end of the build it owed me about £450. I've always had a Polo 86 or 86c on the driveway since I passed my test 13 years ago. They are a perminant part of my collection - as i'm one of the main moderators on Club Polo too! The K reg green ones is a limited run in that colour and very few of them are this rot free. It was either come get it if you want it or its going to the crusher! So i saved it!

I choose this because I missed my old 190e. Wanted a little more comfort tho 80's/90's Mercedes build quality realy takes some beating IMO. I still think of it as a very modern car! lol I choose this because i love the proper old school styling and 'Mechano' build style. So easy to work on, cheap parts, and relatively easy to modify; From this; To this; And we choose this for the works daily runabout, cos we got p1ssed off with throwing money the Astravan due to the 'modern element' constantly giving issues;

i chose my mx5 because i wanted a soft top with rwd that was good to drive and had a good car club following so i could get out and about in it for some fun. the mx5 ticked all the boxes really, it awsome to drive infact one of the best handling cars out the box i have driven and has a huge owners club that are always doing something in them most weekends and after a couple of trackdays in my dads i decided to get my self one.

I got the Trans Am because the guy who had it wanted to swap for a mid 60s yank and I had one I wanted shot of. I got the '67 Oldsmobile because it was cheap and I wanted a convertible and I thoroughly underestimated the amount of work it would require. I got the '73 Oldsmobile because I was pretty sure it would end up stripped and bangered if I didn't and some of us have to put our money where our mouth is occasionally on that subject I got the '66 Buick because it was the cheapest V8 full size yank of the "classic" era I could find. It was my first yank car. I got the '68 Fury because I had one before and failed to do it because it was too rotten. "Unfinished business" I got the Fairmont because of its interesting movie history, its a "mustang sedan" and again I suspected it would be very attractive to banger racers if left cheap and un-MOT'd on eBay I got the Capri because it was left to me in a will I got the Passat because it was a cheap hatchback and I never had a VW before

Criteria: RWD - Check <100bhp - Check Sub £1000 - Check Current....... Some previous....... Also needed something sensible, economical and cheap for the missus (and for me when I break/crash my own car). So we got this 205 1.1 for £300 and it's bloody awesome, great MPG, sailed though the last MOT only needing only a tyre and brake hose! Had it for just over a year and I love it.

Many different reasons for choosing my cars, the current Volvo was chosen because its so cheap and easy to increase the performance and I like cars that are much faster than they look. I have yet to add the "Minister on call" signs.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

205 GTI it was just one of them cars I had to have it came up cheap and had to have it, agreed to buy it over the phone before even seeing it. Kids put it on the back burner.
Rest of the fleet. Range Rover 200TDi needed love and I had down time so made sense. MR2 I needed something to replace the 106 that replaced the Saxo its brief was simple it had to be quick and not an obvious choice from French car owner, saw it thought 200+ bhp RWD whats the worst that could happen.......?
Plan was to tart it up give it some shine and sell in summer it never really saw summer as each time summer comes round something else throws a spanner in its progress.
Discovery needed a family hack to replace the Laguna so it just kinda happened.
Currently looking for a 206 GTI for the other half......

Because I wanted to be different to all my mates that had Corsas, Fiestas, Saxos and other little hatchbacks. I chose the Dolly specifically because it looks cool, will keep up with modern traffic, has decent seats, a boot that my trials bike will fit in (not that I can ride anymore anyway) and is pretty easy to work on. When bought After the first engine change a year and a bit later. And now. (after parking it on a bridge)

Originally bought for myself, my brother and mother to learn to drive in for £250 from the son of the first owner. Served duty as a family car for a bit when Dad's broke. Once he got his own car again, Dad was going to scrap the Polo, so I paid him £25 for it as I couldn't bear to see it weighed in when it still had a lot to give and because I thought it would make an ideal first car for me For now, it's in bits waiting for me to be allowed to work on it again.

I'm enthusiastic about so many cars! Each purchase is usually a combination of me having some money and 'one of those' being available.

The picture says it all well that and its a B3 Passat estate (my 6th B3). Oh and the heated leather interior and automatic gearbox, the cruise control and electric windows, tilt and slide electric sunroof, electric heated mirrors and has the uber-rare thermotronic , is in my all time favorite VW colour (steel blue metallic), is one of only 4 left, cost less than £800 and tops out at 140mph. Think thats about it ;D

To start with back in the day it was cheapness, you could buy a cortina for £100 and minicab it into the ground for 6 months then get another and that sort of developed into familiarity which the developed into a passion and finaly onto a bloody anoractic life style ( I may have made up anoractic ;D ) I meen me Mum had cortinas but I can't say that was what started it, my fist car (again cheap) was a RWD mazda 323 which I loved but as I started to mincab a 2 door small hatch wouldn't cut it so me Mum gave me a cortina for my 21st so I could start work, it was as loved as any 1st decent car, washed every 2 days and polished every sunday ect but it took a few years to get into my blood, in fact I think that car getting written off sealed the deal. TBH i've had soo many cars people find it hard to beleive but I still end up back with a cortina or rather there is allways at least one (or 2) cortinas in a lock up awaiting my attention ;D From childhood the only car I ever really wanted and still do is a stag but I live and breath cortinas, I buy, sell, break and repair them and i'm too old now to learn another car This was my work truck, i ran scrap in it for 9 months till somone hit it whilst parked and wrote it off, that was only 5 years ago, i still do the same thing in a sierra P100 now but only cos i can't afford a cortina version
