My neighbour had a slight mishap with his Audi yesterday. While filling it with petrol at a garage in Kingston he noticed smoke coming from the dash area. He jumped in got it out of the petrol station (whose staff thought he was doing a runner) and a couple of minutes later this is what was left. He's desperatly in need of a replacement of some sort so has anyone got anything their trying to move on at the moment? He's had Sierras in the past and said he'd be well chuffed if he could find a Mk 5 Cortina!

Sh*t thats not good. :(Always liked the look of Audi 80 coupes and they are one of the few VAG cars I would happily own.
Got no cars for sale at the minute but there seem to be plenty of interestings on the bay of E at the minute

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Gutted for him, looked like a nice car too Agreed - also I hope that the feds & petrol station staff recognised his efforts in averting a far greater fire!

Send him over to one of the Cortina forums.
Mine isn't for sale and funnily enough is being built with upsetting Audi drivers in mind but that's because I'm curse word off with the nobby ones that are trying to out do the BMW driver image and keep cutting me up during stupid overtaking manouvers on stretches of the A303.

Theres the one autofive has as well, can't remember the URL though.
Ironically, I once drove a car home which was on fire. Thing was I had picked it up from the garage who had doen some welding on it for the MOT. I could smell something, thought it was jsut the left over smells of welding. Thing is it had no Tax and no MOT so I wasn't about to stop and find out. Then smoke started coming up through the vents in the dash. So I driove faster! As I pulled up my street there were flames licking out of the vents and I lost all the hair on one arm half way to my elbow.
I then had to leave it burning in the street while I went in the house to find something to put the fire out with. I used a big pan whch still had remnants of last nights pasta in it. Three or four trips with that and it was out.
Just had to replace the dash and do some rewiring and it was fine.
It was a Mk3 Cortina.

Thats a funny story that Alistair! Almost had a similar incident earlier this week when i was trying to light a cigarette with the prehistoric cigarette lighter in the car, it lights the cigarette no probs but when i put it back in the button lodged in and woudnt unstick. I was on a busy road so coudnt stop so i thought it would be fine until i touch it again and its boiling hot. I thought stuff this so i had to pull up on the side of the road and i coudnt get it out no matter how many times i pressed it. Then it was so hot the battery meter started to fly high and smoke was appearing from it so i got the car keys and managed to lodge it out just on time! Few more seconds and it would have been flames. I wont be using it again anyway.
