I'm bored of driving a modern car! (suxo VTR) Going home to re-finance it so that I can sell the curse word!
I have been planning on doing this for a while but was planning on buying some thing diesel and an estate.
However I've come to the conclusion that I'm young (19) free and single and therefore want something "stupid" and "curse word".
I've recently started reading Custom car and that mag and this forum have really started to warp my mind lol. So i really fancy something hot/rat/custom rod inspired. Obviously I can't afford to go out and buy a t-bucket or something similar so I'm looking for suggestions.
Will have about £1k to spend
I was thinking old, rwd, and okish on insurance.
Primary thoughts are Ford 100e or 107e Ford 105e Sit up and beg POP etc Austin a40
Any other suggestions.....
and advice on buying owning building and insuring my first old custom car is gfreatly appreciated.

Anything Ford-badged and with 'rodding pedigree' will leave you with very little change out of a grand, if any for something that isn't going to be a weld-athon. You might snaffle a solid A40 at that price... in which case start looking at the 'classic A-series tuning' approach... basically anything tried and tested on Mini's etc. Although alot of bits mini-orientated come with a hefty 'scene-tax' applied.... Alot of the old 'rootes group' stuff seems very good value for money right now and is easily as good as Fords etc of the era... How about a SuperMinx, Hunter or early Avenger? Or maybe even a Marina 1300 Koop? Free tax and small-ish (insurance friendly) engines as standard... then just apply kustom touches as required.

A minor would be a good first step as the scope for improvement is endless..... You could uprate to 1275 Marina power... or a fiat twink... or a K-series - whatever your budget dictates. Quick satin paint-job, some pinstiping / flames / scallops, mexican blankets over the seats, some 'licky-sticky' accessorising and a noisy exhaust and you got the look for not very must money!

Yeah as above the Ford stuff has really jumped up in price recently. A40's are cool and I like the smaller A30 and A35. They can still be got for next to nothing and Mini, Metro and MG Midget goodies can swap on with relative ease. Don't know how much you can get Rover P6's for but a shagged one still has a V8 and it has the right sound. Just needs lowering and some wheels IMO

Get a Minor, Great fun, cheap to run, easy to modify, you can buy every part for one, Good round corners. You can buy an MOT'ed and quite tidy one for under a grand. DO NOT BUY A 4 DOOR. Oh, and don't forget free tax. If you get one, i can point you in the direction of spares and modifications etc....... If that hasn't convinced you, see what Tiff Needell thinks

The minor does appeal to me but i am very changeable. Love Seths A60 and thats exactly the kinda thing i'm going for not a copy of his but that kindo of theme and attitude towards modifying

Do it while you can yeah. If you want this to be your daily though, be quite realisic with your time investment and needs. Even my old XR2 took a couple hours a week to keep it movin. I'd too love a 100e roland rat type thing. be a bit of work though, for anything that old in that price. I echo the Rover suggestion too.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

If you leave a minor engine standard they last forever. I had a ratty satin black minor, looked like sh1t , but i did no maintenance on the engine of that car for the whole time i had it (about a year). don't forget, mechanically many parts are the same as mini, so service parts are 'off the shelf'

Yeah its gunna be my daily so i'm trying to stay realistic. Minor appeals because there's such a variety and wealth of parts available plus pretty much everything has been done which means pretty much everything can be done.

Minors are great. Slow, noisy... but great. Easy to maintain, cheap to service, easy to get the parts. I ran my last one as a daily for nearly 2 years, maybe 18 months, I forget. Didn't need much to keep it sweet.
