;D ;D ;D Well basically I have a problem. My supposedly dead "impulsive car buying" side has resurfaced and is currently waging war with my sensible" keeping the car I've already got" side, and I need the collective help of the Retro Rides MassiV to swing me one way or the other (ooooh errr) Basically since June I have been the proud owner of this: a Mk1 Arosa Base Model. Its a great little car. Really cheap to run and Insure. As you can see I've done a little bit of work to it and made it look a bit cooler (wheels have now been cleaned up and given a few coats of satin black). It gets good comments and does what its meant to........ BUT......... Its slow........and doesn't real stir the ........soul! Then through the fence of the Garage next to the depot. at work I saw a Black E36 Coupe. A car thats always been on "the list" You can see where this is going. A bit more investigation revealed that its a 318iS (the model I wanted! Good compromise of power and Economy). An early one (1992 on a J) and in black. Quick deek around it and its a little rough but very honest with it (rust on the wheel arch, light scratching down one side). 147k on the clock with MOT until April.......... Best/Worst bit its £399! Now I'm seriously tempted! It fires up and runs spot on! I haven't had a chance to test drive it yet, but I can't see there being major problems. But is it a bad idea? Better the Devil you know etc? Has anyone had any experiences with them? Should I keep the sensible Arosa? ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH Please help.

I have the same problem as you, I can't stop constantly changing cars, I'm 24 and I've had 23! I swapped a 106 GTI needing some work for a mk3 Golf GTI as a temp while I save, and now I'm thinking of replacing my temp with another temp...

Keep the Arosa, fix your cortina! If you buy a BMW I promise I will give Norm your email address and phone number.
Anyway, didn't you say you were saving up for a BDSM Escort?

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Keep the Arosa. The little Arosa is much more distinctive than a Beemer, particularly a 3 series (in my humble opinion) and the mods you've done to it are right for the car. If you chop the Arosa in for the Beemer I bet you'll end up hating the decision when the first maintenance bill comes in.

Get the Bimmer, they are brilliant!
Soooo cheap to run, superb on fuel 40mpg is a real possibility in normal use, they are virtually indestructible, beautiful to drive (Mtech suspension from the factory in 'is' models), the only weaknesses are a timing chain and tensioners, they need doing every 150-200k and the rear arm bushes as on every E36..
One of mine had well over 300k on the clock and was fresh as a daisy..
Ditch the spanish econobox and get a real car, just don't slam it and ruin the sublime handling...

E36 Coupe is one of the worst cars I ever owned. But I'm sure they're not all as ropey as mine was.

get the bm. i've had 13 so far and still think they are the best cheap used car around. Theres a flavour for everyone and all mine have been stupidly reliable except my current which is off the road due to water pump failure. Plus, winter will be here soon and i guarantee you'll have more fun in the bm in the wet and snow than you would in the arosa

For £400, get the BMW, swap the insurance onto it and keep the Arosa on the drive.
Hate the BMW? Sell it for what you bought it for or at most a small loss and drive the Arosa again. BMW dies on you? Scrap it and drive the Arosa again for what is also a very small loss.

If the whole rear suspension falls off the Beemer I could even use it as an engine donor for the Cortina ;D

Get the BMW, put an M3 front bumper on and win all the way down the street. If you can keep the Arosa hanging about, do. If it's a real iS, it's an absolute steal at that money. You won't make a loss on it if you sell it on with some MOT left.

With the Price of Coilovers it's not worth Cutting the Springs haha Totally it's just not worth it, in the past month I've helped two mates fit "eBay" coilovers to E36s, for the cost of £180 delivered it's not worth cutting them, plus it's only a couple of hours to fit! IMO the quality of them is actually pretty good, especially considering how much they actually cost. Oh and one other thing DO IT!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to sell my e36 coupe 328i (maybe better if breaking it). Absolutely loved it, always put a smile on my face, but got through tyres almost as quickly as a tank of petrol! Wasn't cheap to run so have had to "downgrade". I don't know how much fun a 318 would be compared to my 328 but they definitely look just as good slammed

Its 140hp and has a decent chassis so it'll definitely be waaaay better than the 1.0 Arosa or my previous diesel Golf.
