Its happened I now have another car this buying car bug is contagious.
I picked up my new 1300 today. It drove back beautifully and I was very happy with it. I will get some pictures up asap and have noted a few small jobs that I want to do soon.
I seem to have a headlight out so that is first priority. check Adjust and rebush the throttle linkage as its a bit sloppy. check Adjust the steering wheel as its slightly crooked In the future replace the steering wheel as it has a chunk out of it at about 2 o clock which is where I like to hold when driving. Other than that theres weld both sills drivers side rear wheel arch and miscalanious in the others and the inner wings. Also a full engine service as the car has not seen much use recently. Adjust trim to eliminate squeeks and rattles. check Put at least 1 wing mirror on
Not a terrible list but definatly enough to keep me on my toes for a while.
Longer term Clean engine bay and repaint manifold and rusty looking engine parts. Strip and french polish wooden trim and replace carpets. New or rechromed bumpers as they are very tired.

Nice one, Paul! I think we touched on Triumph 1300's whe we were talking cars up at gaydon the other saturday, weren't we?? Good work getting hold of one!!! These are a quality car, Triumph were still churning out really nice stuff back then, before the BL bean-counters got involved. There is a small competition connection too, according to Bill Price's excellent 'The B.M.C/B.L. Competitions Department' book, in late 1968/early 1969 Triumph Competition Dept built a 4WD 1300 with a 2000 diff in the back, powered by an ex-Le Mans Spitfire 1300 lump. They never rallied it though, its competition history consisted of a few Rallycross meets before self-destructing when the rear suspension broke and it rolled into an expensive ball of scrap!! Be sure and get plenty of pics in Coventry on the retail park that occupies the site where the Triumph factory was. You'll know you are in the right place when you see 'Herald Way' and 'Dolomite Avenue'. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Very tidy interior. There's something about British cars that the rest of the world just doesn't do, not sure what that is though.

Ive been thinking when Ive finished the structural work of respraying in a similar coulour to the interior from above just below the door handles. Whacking on some dolomite alloys and slamming it on the deck anyone who can do photoshop wanna show me what that would look like.
I am in two minds about it though as it is such an unmolested car its even got the original chrome wiper blades on it and dealer accesory fit rear screen demister and other little bits of similar character.
So the question is modify or restore back to as close to original as possible?

That's a question only you can answer. Do you tend to keep cars for years, or get bored easily and then look to sell them on and start a new project? The answer to that should give you a good idea on what to do.

Dolomite wheels a definite no-no on these, they'll stick out way too far from the arches and it'll tramline like a pig on stilts. You'd get through bearings and driveshaft doughnuts at a fantastic rate with that extra offset too, I shouldn't wonder. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Maestro, Montego or MGF alloys with 185/60%x14 or in the case of the last 185/55%x15 rubber would be a whole lot better. There are only two of that colour combination known to the TDC; Olive with Cactus trim, the other is currently rusting away in a garden in the North East so it may be worth your while having a word on the Dolomite forum with Nick1854 and ask whether he'll consider breaking for parts. Check the lower column before considering moving the wheel, if there's play at the rim then that's probably knackered and you may as well wait until the job's done so you'll know how much, if any then, the wheel needs to be shifted. The rim damage could be fixed invisibly with epoxy filler and satin black rattle can paint, Araldite is ideal for building the plastic back up. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Looking good though, and as the only roadworthy one in that colour, bound to be drooled over at shows once it's done. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
