Been playing this afternoon grabbed a needle file and a drill and this is the result. Also fillered the bottom of the drivers side wing and waterproofed the sill skin. This is a temporary job as it will be welded shut. Since the bottom plate is now in place I didn't want the sill filling with water. We are getting there people. ![](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2539/4348545427_e4e5f8b6c6.jpg) big thanks to Dontelhimpike those mirrors suit Bruce down to the ground, I owe you one ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Paul Paul

Speedo now equals yoyo FTW.
Quite annoying when negotiating speed cameras. ;D
I think I know what I'm stripping down and lubricating tomorrow

Isn't it wonderfull how the simple addition of mirrors make the car look complete. I love not having to look away from the road to check a door mirror as well. It must have safety advantages so i ask you why on earth don't safety obsessed moderns have them there it makes driving so much more relaxed.
The speedo has always had a bit of a wobble but now yoyos between 20 and 90 at approx 45 mph. I think the cable has snapped and that 2 ends must be catching. would be nice if its just worked loose though

Ok I am truly shocked today. Somebody has chucked a load of filler on my inner wings for no apparent reason. After getting this off today I discovered that on the drivers side there is virtually no actual rust there just badly flaking filler. There is a small stress hole that will need patching but nothing close to what I was expecting.
Passenger side is not as good but again lots of pointless filler and underneath perfectly solid metal. Part of the flange on the strut cover is peeling. This appears to actually be where filler has fallen out from under it. I'm thinking a few good taps from a hammer and a seem weld will put this back without a problem and it will be perfectly strong again. One sill is now repaired and the other will be done tomorrow. With a bit of luck this car may be solid again in time for the spares day on the 7th.
As for the running problem I may have found it theres a load of visible curse word in the inline fuel filter which I couldn't see in the dark yesterday I blame ruddy tescos petrol.

Seems like you're working your way through it, should be in good shape in no time. Strange about all that filler... the mind boggles!

Today I tackled the drivers side sill and wheelarch only too run out of welding gas and wire after only just starting. As a result and not wanting to waste a bit of sunshine I decided that there are other ways of "repairing bodywork" If you are squemish look away now!! MWHAHAHAHAHAHA FILLEEERRRR and mesh wins again. Today I started tackling the rear wheel arch. I decided as temporary affair that mesh and filler was the order of the day when my welder ran out of gas and then wire and I ran out of steel. I looked at the area and decided if it hadn't made the car split in 2 as it was it was hardly going to do so with the filler. I must express this is temporary and when complete should be able to pass the MOT giving me time to take it out and do it properly. Anyway this is what I started with ![](http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4309242976_32ab87834e.jpg) and this is where it is now. ![](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2732/4395585728_4c562643fe.jpg) ![](http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/4394820377_77840a14d0.jpg) sanding and spraying tomorrow and with some luck it will look a lot better

I think the cable has snapped and that 2 ends must be catching. would be nice if its just worked loose though Paul Have a look at the cable and make sure there are no kinks in it, as that usually causes wavering speedos. They need a nice smooth run from the gearbox to the back of the instrument cluster so that the inner cable doesn't stick inside the outer cable.

Ok now I have my comumpance welder is broken double fed the wire (I'm an idiot). Booked the MOT this morning thinking I was easily gonna have it ready, so have a week.
Somebody please help before I loose hope and scrap the ruddy thing!! Even somebody who was able to fix the welder would be a godsend

its pulled wire through twisted it and jammed. I cant get the nuts undone to free the wire up. It appears to be trying to feed to wires through at the same time and thus just jams.

Hi again. This weekend has brought about major improvements on this car and top marks go to my Norfolk helper ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . Drivers side sill has been completed and was a lot of work as the steel was very thin and in places just not there at all. Anyway some pictures I'm putting some before and after shots on as I didn't get around to taking any whilst the work comenced. You will remember I'm sure the view of the rear of the sill ![](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2795/4308505987_bb2677c356.jpg) this is what it looks like now. ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0001.jpg) those who have seen the car will remember how badly the sill was attached this is how it looks now ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0002.jpg) ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0003.jpg) The front of the sill viewing from the wheel arch had no endplate and no bracing of any kind. ![](http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/4309242092_49a0e613bd.jpg) this is it now all nicely sealed even if the rot in the floorpan presented a small problem. ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0004.jpg) . That compiles all the work done on Saturday the filler was today. Today I pulled the carpet to discover this, looks good on the passenger side but with some rot in the driver footwell. ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0006.jpg?t=1268081566) ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0007.jpg) test fitted the new carpet I got for it needs a clean but otherwise looks good. ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0008.jpg) The work that remains. Drivers side inner wing ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0009.jpg) Passengers side inner wing ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0010.jpg?t=1268130398) ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0011.jpg) Passenger side sill thankfully looks a lot more solid than the drivers did. ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0012.jpg) ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0014.jpg) Replace rotoflex bushes and sort out the oil leak that has developed. ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0017.jpg) Interesting any ideas where thats coming from as it wasn't like it when I got it. Then MOT and general tidying. The drivers side sill will need more work but at the moment will pass oh and I suppose I better sought the infernal continually breaking speedo out really ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) the rear wheel arch now has paint on it ![](http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af262/pauldaf44/Image0005.jpg) Oh fag of photofecket. When the internet connection isn't taking 10mins per pic to upload and then failing at the last second I will upload the rest of the pics there are some there gap will be filled later. grrrr Paul

Lets clear up car terms: "Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. "Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car. "Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence. "Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

All pictures now correct.
Ahh that would be where my shears and snips have got too then. Yep I will be bringing it back it also seems I am going to be free weekend after next after all.

Not sure there is quite a lot of space. Bear in mind though that the engine in this mounts longitudinally
