Noise complaint from neighbour Midas

Obviously constabularies will be different, but I’m on daily conference calls with ours and the number of nuisance complaints has gone through the roof with too many people having far too much time on their hands at the moment.
I think their current way of dealing with them is nodding politely and getting on with nicking the drug dealers who are fighting on a daily basis over limited stock.

The pedal box on my Midas kit car was partially secured using wood screws. The mind sometimes boggles..

the trouble with us is that we see soggy footwells and drips in the cabin and think of it as a failure to prevent water ingress. but if you look round the car there are lots of systems which solely exist to let water OUT of the car. any blind man can see that successful "leak prevention" starts with more holes in the floor That sounds like my first kit car, the secret to keeping your feet dry was to manage the flow of water through the vehicle.

My twin spark 75 had eight plugs, my understanding was always that they fired together to improve the burn.

Thanks Midas I have acquired a voltmeter but a mechanical oil pressure gauge would really help 🙂 I think the only one I have is the one fitted to my Gold convertible, but I will double check.

My standard ML7 can screwcut, as far as I’m aware they all do one way or another. The Super has a powered cross feed.
I got my Myford after having a Chinese Clarke, in a different league, though you can do some decent work on the Chinese lathes with a bit of setting up and regular resetting. The Myford has a narrower bore through the headstock, but the Chinese lathe has plastic drive gears which tend to grenade if you crash the carriage by accident.
Myfords are expensive for what they are, but they hold their value well and the amount of available attachments is impressive. Next time around I’d look closely at a Boxford under drive as my space at home hasn’t increased any.

I’ve got one or two smaller gauges back at my place that may be of some use to you, I’ll be back there this next week and have a look.

Is Kenny Wilson’s old yard still running in Branthwaite near Cockermouth? The hours I have spent in there....
The ‘new’ owner (Trevor iirc) kept up the rallying tradition and used to campaign a V8 Capri on the single venue rallies around the North.

Did you just change the gasket, or did you replace the head bolts, water pump as well?
The heater circuit can develop an airlock which can be the devils own job to clear, you need to get the car nose down when bleeding and you could try fitting an auxiliary bleed such as item 292744817013 on eBay into the return pipe in the engine compartment. There’s a reason Rover used a vacuum system to fill the k-series cooling systems.
Others have already mentioned the expansion tank and cap, both can fail causing boil overs. That said, your does sound like the head gasket may have gone again.

This one ran very little as it was introduced towards the end of the war. It looks like it might have donated parts to others, as everything like track, sprockets etc were totally shagged. The gearbox, apart from munitions damage was like new. Most parts still had rubber stamped numbers on them...So probably gave problems from the beginning, so they used it for spares to keep other ones going. There were issues with 3rd gear and the triple plate clutch that would have made it pretty much undriveable. Are those issues resolvable?

Time for a bit of an update. Panther gearbox now fully assembled, ready to be installed. No oil leaks 😊 Unless you really know where to look, the repair is not obvious 😎 I was looking at the Panther gearbox on display at the Tank Museum the other day, helluva lump isn’t it? Their output splines look considerably more worn than on your example from what I can see.

I beleive the Lada Riva pick up is pretty basic... And less than £6,000 new. Of course you can't buy them here. Seriously, I NEED one (probably just the little 3 door though. What's stopping me getting one, anyone know? From memory Lada in the UK was killed by emissions, or more accurately, their inability to meet EU standards. That’s a Niva by the way...

It depends on the model as to what they will take, When my kids got into RC about 15 years ago NiMH 3300mah packs were easily available. That would give you 20-30 minutes at full chat on a fairly standard 540 motor.

Just worried it may drag down the reputation of the club being stuck in the windscreen of the white goods daily CRV... Imagine the horror of it being in the window of a Prius. In my defence, it’s all about the company car tax bill. In addition, I call it “carbon offsetting” - balances out what the others burn. 😜 Mine will be going into the window of a 57 plate kit car, the DNA is retro, even if the plate isn’t.
