That is the shizzle fo sho ..and so far, including the original price, road tax, mot and insurance it stands me in at £602. Now, you were saying... Thanks for all the comments though guys, I'm bloody loving the old tank. It's a great feeling to jump into your own Merc at the end of the day and waft home. And after all, no one who sees me needs to know it's an ex-abandoned £200 survivor! Chris

Cheers Matt. I must make that real.
Yes, buy one, they're awesome in every sense of the word.
Weather permitting I plan to give the car a damn good clean and polish this weekend, inside and out. I've also got my hands on a decent SLR so I should have some decent pictures to show you all on Monday, too.

robbery or burglary? the two are quite distinct in law In this context, does it really matter? But to answer your question, yes, it was most certainly a robbery. Read more here if you're interested. And Mr. Bizzle, yes. Should have clarified that, really. Chris

Hi all. As some of you will know my office was subjected to a fairly significant robbery last week resulting in the theft of 22 Apple Macs, thieving bas*ards. Anyway, one of them was mine and as you can imagine it contained lots of information, including a lot of pictures I took for an upcoming feature about scrap yards. This is where you lot come in. Copyright states that I can't just steal pictures off the net and use them as there is 'commercial gain', but on the flip side I simply don't have the time to go out and soot them all again. With that in mind I was wondering if any of you would be willing to post up any pictures of Fords in scrappers that I could use - the bigger the resolution the better. I know it's cheeky, and I can't offer much in return other than a free copy of the mag when it comes out along with a mention. I have to ask though as it would be wrong to just steal them off here. Can you lovely people save the day? I only have one weekend before deadline and I'd much rather spend that with my little girl than in a scrap yard with a camera! Cheers guys! Chris Chris

If you ever bring the Benz to a A52, I'll gladly give you some detailing tips/demonstration. I may just take you up on that. It's not quite there yet as there are a couple of teeny rust spots to sort, but other than that the old girl is surprisingly mint. I see some real potential to have a mintier than mint car here, which would be a change for me! Chris

I love that the beat-up old recovery truck was one of the most expensive in the end!

What does 'claying' a car mean? As far as I'm concerned dirt keeps the weather off, so cleaning a car is an alien concept. Having said that, the Merc is a tidy old boat that shows some potential so I'm happy to giver her some love. Having spent some time digging around I can't help but feel that some Turtle Wax might not be enough. Do explain fellow RRers, as I have no clue! Have some shiny tin as a pre-emptive thanks... Chris

That's a great car and a wonderful story to it too. In the sense that you plan to keep it standard, that is. The owner passing away is sad of course.
I own a 1989 300SE and also use it as my daily so I know where you're coming from (there's a link in my sig if you want to see it).
You should be happy with it, I'm exceptionally happy with mine.
Chris
P.S. Out of curiosity, what do the buttons under the ash-tray do? Mine doesn't have those.

Yeah, we all know Christine, so as 'car people' it's only natural that we would wonder what became of the cars they used for the film. We might be upset that they destroyed a lot of good cars, we might just sit safe 'knowing' that they weren't all mint. Either way, without a solid account of what became of those cars, we'll never truly know. Well, thanks to some random Googling I have found a nice little story about some of the 24 cars they used. It might be old news to some of you, for those for whom this is fresh, enjoy! CLICK ME, CUNNINGHAM!!!Chris
