So, my latest acquisition is this...
...excuse the crude pictures. I've only seen it twice, the second time was today (26th) when I went to pay for it. I haven't even heard it run. This is not one of my more thought out purchases (having said that, are any of my purchases thought out?).
I was offered it for £200, which normally wouldn't have got me too excited. The appeal here is the paperwork, the lack of owners (I'm the fourth) and the general condition of it. Oh, and some ebay research (watching similar cars sell for more money) confirmed it was worth a punt no matter what the outcome. Sadly though, one reason it was so cheap was down to the fact it would come with no alloys, just comically small steels...
It's had an easy 157k life, never wanting for anything. It was in regular use up until Jan this year when it was part-exchanged for a newer car. It was then bought by Barry, the guy I got it off, to be put back into service and used as a daily. Sadly though, Barry is like many of us and has a poor car/time available ratio. As such, he decided to part with it, via me. Yay.
Here is just some of the paperwork, including the bill of sale from '95...
The logic is simple, it's cheap to run. No, not in terms of mpg, I mean in terms of annual cost against usage. My Mondeo was £600 a year to insure, this will be £140. That alone makes it worthwhile. I use my girlfriends car at weekends, so the mpg doesn't really factor into it. The drive to work is only three miles.
Crucially though, it's a bit more 'me' than a Mondeo, which is the main thing. I need my car-mojo to be at a constant high!
As we speak it should be with Tim (Brat Man) where it will be looked over and MOT'd. If it passes, this thread will become a delightful insight into the highs and lows of running an S-Class. If it fails, it'll be on eBay by Monday.
Stay tuned.
Chris
