Sanded the whole of the underneath with 120 grit dry. Then layed on some more epoxy primer Wet sanded it all with 600 grit - took weeks as I kept getting bores and leaving it Masked it all up again and sprayed a load of 2 pack frozen white on, looks better in the pics than in the flesh though, plenty of runs, dry spots and debris stuck in the paint. Loads more work to do getting rid of the runs ect! Garage lighting does not make it look that white...

hi Mark I love the work you doing on that sierra. I am in s.a other than the xr8 sierra there are a couple of make shift sierra v8 conversions here but no way as neat as yours I like what you did with that crossmemer looks great. I have a sierra xr6 I am looking to improve with a 302 v8 and I am stuck at how to make the mountings look as good as yours. this my 1985 sierra xr6 with essex v6 and some more. Crossmember was time consuming but I only used a side grinder, mig welder, bits of wood and a hammer to do the job. I did it one bit at a time starting with carboard templates, I dangled the engine in position and made up one piece and tack welded it into place, dropped the cross member and fully welded it. Then I put the crossmember back on and did the same again with the next part. It took a while and the 3mm thick plate need a fair bit of bashing to get into shape. I nearly gave up and sold the car on as I was so sick of messing about with the underneath of it and have hardly touched it in the last few months. Got my mojo back now and in the process of re-sanding the complete under side of the car as the epoxy mastic finish was not very smooth. Once it's all smooth it will get a load more epoxy primer and then some nice shiny white. Car has been on the spit for over a year now and I can't wait to get it the right way up again!

I tried TIG on the bodywork and it was a pain in the A$$ Unless the two bits of metal fit perfectly the arc seems to hop to one side or the other and just melt it away. MIG every time for me when it comes to bodywork

without wishing to sound negative- are you not concerned that you will make a too perfect show car that you will be afraid to drive or park anywhere? I would have been tempted to stick the V8 and manual box in, and leave the bodywork as is (as it did not look too bad- holes sure, but driveable), get in on the road quicker and start enjoying driving it? or am I missing the point? You're not missing the point, to be honest I never really planned it this way To start with I was just going to fit the engine and drive the damn thing, I found a little bit of rust and got kind of obsessed with making it all go away ...

When I turbocharged my motorbike I left the ignition timing standard, it too much of a PITA to get a crank position

I really, really struggled to get my turbo bike running properly on carbs I could get it to run OK on boost and OK on light throttle. The transient fueling as it came on boost I could never get right, tried different needle heights, pitot tube and no pitot tube, different air corrector jets, referencing the boost from different places, every main jet under the sun. It may well of been down to the amount of overlap my bike ran (FZR1000 exup) as other bikes like the Suzuki Bandit seem to blow through the carbs fine In the end I used Suzuki GSXR750 throttle bodies and megasquirt, it made an extra 20bhp for the same amount of boost
