Lets say you have a hypothetical budget of about £1500 give or take a few quid. With the retro/classic/future-classic market all over the shop at the moment, it's tricky to know what to buy. Even a few years ago, there would be loads of choice, but now there seems to be so little that's worth having. My question is; what would you buy? My choice at the moment I think would be something like maybe an MG Midget needing some love or a boggo-spec 90's hatch to turn into a semi-fast version. Think S1 106 with a view to make a Rallye-a-like. Something like this little beauty, with budget left over for some nice bits like wheels and bumpers... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255341080376?hash=item3b7383af38:g:cf0AAOSwTf9hwfoG

I did this recently with a 1988 Starlet. The results will be on the forum before the end of Feb. I have an attachment to the EP Starlet, otherwise your suggestion would have been my next choice. www.autoscout24.ch/de/d/peugeot-106-limousine-1995-occasion?vehid=9074123&accountid=61699&backurl=%2Fautos%2Fpeugeot--106%3Fmake%3D60%26model%3D425%26vehtyp%3D10&make=60&model=425&vehtyp=10&eventLabel=vehiclePosition%3A9%20%7C%20sortingOption%3Ano_sort&packageName=member%3Aas24_basic&sortingPosition=9 General answer to your wider question, small, simple, 92-97 vintage. Starlet, Micra, 106, Alto, Lancia Y, Charade, Saxo, Justy, Swift.

For £1500 I'd probably go Ford Puma.

I did this very thing not so long ago, and whilst supremely comfortable, the running costs and maintenance took the fun out of cheap thrills

For £1500 I'd probably go Ford Puma. Yeah they are an excellent little car, I have one as my long term project! Wild how much they have shot up in the last 12 months though. Last year you could get a good one for £700, now it's up to the £1500 mark! There are still some cheapies to be found though.

It's something I think about fairly often, nothing more than to pass the time haha trying to find the "next good buy" is a fun game too! I've always liked the Abarth cars, they're just funky enough to be cool, even though as you say, they might not be that good. Saab's are a good shout too, can look smart with a few tweaks and certainly seem to be quick enough.
