I have wanted to get back in a classic ford for a while and I've never owned a Capri but not quite sure if I can bring myself to sell the Viva yet. Decisions decisions Can't belive I've never actually owned one yet but it would mean selling this

does it have to be one or the other? If finances stretch drive a capri around for a while then make the choice....

Well... I'm not sure about the story behind the viva, it could be a keeper and you would end up regretting it forever. very few of us are lucky enough to have the space and finances to keep all the cars we want.. and because of that sometimes one of them have to go so we can scatch the itch so to say..
For me personally i have only one keeper, the sierra. its because its been in the family for so many years now, and i really enjoy working on it. So to "scath my itch" i will (when finaces will allow) probably end up with 3 cars, the sierra, a daily and some short term fun car to do more stupid stuff to than i dare do to my keeper xD
I hope this little bit of input will help you decide what to do to scratch your itch 8)

try and blag a few go's in Capri's at least before you do, I've never liked them myself and I've driven a few.

If you do get a Capri please use bigger tyres than the one above!
Personally I would keep the Viva, looks so cool and a bit different. That said Capri prices are only going up so now might be a good time to buy.
So that was precisely no help!

It'd have to be a VERY nice Capri to better that HB.

my only suggestion is think on it for a bit more, I go through phases of wondering about selling up and getting something different but they have all come and gone (so far)

tbf, neither of them do it for me at all. i think the capri has a bit more about it styling wise, the HB is a bit bland. nether have particularly good build quality and both like to rust for something to do, so neither has its positives there.
id probably choose the HB just cos its not a capri. plus, its the devil you know versus the one you don't. if you have to have a ford though, you thought about a 100e? all the bolt-in upgrades for one are more or less the same as for a capri, but in a smaller, lighter, older (tax and mot exempt), better built body.

MKI Capri for me. I had a MKIII 1.6LS and loved the car but the pre facelift MKI was the car I always drooled over. I'm old enough to remember them being introduced and how amazing they were compared to everything else around at the time. Doesen't have to be 3000E as a 1600GT (Kent) with XLR pack in gold with black bonnet would be more than good enough Paul H

Quite simply ... NO!! why pay ford scene tax for a Capri that will probably be a pile of curse word for the money??? I've been in the ford scene for thirty years but now can't be bothered with them,, prices are ridiculous for rotten old rubbish, keep you viva it looks a beauty

I agree with the rip off scene tax any old ford has plus I know every inch of the Viva good and bad and if I buy something else there's bound to be loads of rot hiding in it somewhere. The Viva would probably only fetch £3000 ish so I should really finish the hot rod then think of something different to do to this to change it

Ive never got the Capri thing at all, I owned a 2.8 Injection some years back and it was bloody awful to drive. The MK1, Id agree, is the one to have but you wont get a decent one for £3000, well, its highly improbable. What you already have is cooler IMHO.

I adore my Capri...but no...they are getting too expensive to buy and keep, parts are going stupidly expensive now, as with the whole ford scene, I will keep my new one once its done, but I won't be after another...or another ford for that matter, even Sierra prices are going up now...as said they do like to rust, but so do most older cars, as for handling I've never found them to be that bad, you just need to be a bit rough with them and chuck em about! As standard they are a bit wollowy and understeer a fair bit but they are easy to get to handle pretty well and you can go stupid if you want with 5 links and coilovers but then should you need to go through that much trouble to get a car to handle that well...probably not, but I am! Haha

I will hate myself for saying this but keep your viva, capris have started to be hit with scene tax something rotten, don't get me wrong they are a good bit of fun, but most of the time it's better the devil you know

I have absolutely no experience of either car but going totally subjective on looks alone I'd say stick with the Viva, looks great!
