One or two newspapers are saying worst winter in a 100 years for the UK, and as we speak the USA is starting to get icy blasts moving down from the north down towards the gulf of mexico. Considering it is starting to look like bad weather for us over here, and remembering what mods the car companies let alone the owner of cars did to them in the past (advert below as an example) What mods do you think will crop up an rear their ugly head? Even worse would they be trying to fit them to a modern car!

My plan is to buy something with normal levels of ground clearance, chuck some winter tyres off and it'll be fine. Maybe chuck a blanket, shovel, can of diesel and some dry firewood in the car just incase I get stuck because of others.

There's no evidence to suggest the winter will be either good or bad yet, just saying... If we get loads of snow though I'll either use the acclaim which is great in it, or walk. The herald is like driving a tea tray thanks to it being lower and firmer now. Always makes me wonder if I've ruined it.

I usually bosh some snow tyres on my daily and that gets me everywhere. However, this year I have this! So my mods will be a rope, and a couple of shackles, not intended to be used on my own car! Lol

This is also my plan, only add tools, food, rope, dry socks, and somme of those nice rally lights that makes everything white in a blizzard One of those wire pullers (thats not the real name) mounted on the car would also come in really handy Car wise I'm looking for a diesel van ala this: Funny this thread should pop up, was wondering myself what "The Peoples" wintercar should look like and cary

All gadgets are smart phone related nowadays so it won't be long before some kind of de-icer container tube that mounts to your windows and can be activated via your smart phone to get your car ready to drive without leaving the house is available.

I shall click the Jag's gearbox into 'no 1st gear' mode and carry on, otherwise I'll get the MG out and indulge in some slow motion drifts

chuck the skinny winter tyres on the panda (145 or 155 wide), blanket in the boot, and some snack bars.

My plan is to continue driving something with abnormal levels of ground clearance and chuck some winter tyres on it. I'll obviously try this first, but because home is surrounded by open fields with hedges each side of the roads you end up with 6ft+ drifts even with fairly small amounts of snow and they don't clear them.

Winter tyres will do, if I can't get to work on them, then I aint getting my truck out at work so might aswell stop in bed.
Try and steer clear of folks in 4x4's who think they're invincible.

Pump the 'Tro up to 'correct' ride height and stick some decent tyres on it, bag with some grub, blanket and collapsible shovel. Oh, and keep the fuel tank topped up...
But, I really doubt we'll see aything too bad this year (famous last words.....)

If it snows or gets icy, I'll put the GSXR1000 away and get out either the GSXR750 or the XL600V Transalp. If the snow gets really bad, I'll get the pushbike out for the 12 mile commute. And if I need to go a really long distance or carry people, I'll use my Jeep. I might even put it into 4wd.

Absolutely nothing. If the weather is bad enough to stop a navara with 3" lift kit I'll happily just stay in.

This year i got brand new winter tires for the Chevy Van, wich has a lot of ground clearance, and a limited slip rearend. If i get the time, i'll even get a EUapproval on a 83 Opel Rekord i have, lower it, and drive that when possible
