A few years ago a mate came into work very shaken in the winter. They had a clean modern Landrover - and were shocked that something so big and safe could turn into an uncontrollable 2 tonne sledge in the winter as "it has 4 wheel drive". It took a while to explain that basic laws of physics always applied - even to shiney 4 wheel drive LR's on road tyres going downhill on snow. Be alert - they walk among us!

Well, seeing as the majority of members here thinks winter tires are foolish and for cowards, i'm not gonna say anything. AND QUATTRO MAKES ME GO FAST NO MATTER WHAT TIRES, YEAH (i am joking, it is sometimes hard to tell online, so i'm putting it here )

That sounds like, "it's cold, stay in and let's have an S&M party!"

I think I would buy a Fiat Panda 4x4 and change it to an apocolyptic survival machine... completely OTT with chequer plate, shovel, axe, huge roof rack and mesh windscreen gaurd, big tyres and snow chains...
More realisticly I'll just use the Fiesta with chains if it gets that bad...

Scotland is a differant matter I had this Saab 96 as a daily when I lived in Scotland: Very good traction in the snow, even on summer tyres!

I wouldn't have a new fiat at the moment especially from the last 18 months there was a thing about them on watchdog lately fiats and hills do mix, so what will they be like when they confront snow? or snow and a slight gradiant?

Just to add, if we get snow like in the US of A - I will be going to work on my seldge lol Apart from the people up north who are more used to it, if the rest of us got snow like that our country would be on full stop..even when it melted we would probably have floods. Dam just had a horrible, thought I now work much closer to home so would be expected to walk !! bummer.
