Mmmmm Splatter painting ;D a great deal of fun! I think everything that weekend got painted from grills and wheels to phones (some of which melted ) Bruce unfortunately can't make it this month I need to make the pilgrimage back to A52 soon though always an epic time. Prepared a little and dirty photoshop: ^^^^^ Thanks for that, hadn't thought about matching the bumper strip/mirrors to the wheels but now it just makes sence. There is a strong possibility of this happening, acceptable in the 90's Thanks to Gearoil it looks like I've secured some 4WD spring and dampers plus some poly bushes too. So the front suspension setup could be changed soon than I was expecting

Mini update: Went and picked up the Saab wheels which although slightly kerbed, are all straight and in good condition. The plan is bright green and inspired by EB's photoshop I spent a bit more time doing my own to make sure it's definately the look I want....... .......I'm loving it TBH. I've started Nitromorsing the wheels as I want to get the best possible finish on them...... Also today was an excellent day as I have been given a pair of 9jx13" banded steels that look like they may have been on the Titanic Don't know if I'm going to put them on my Sierra (or maybe my good ladies 205) first of all I need to clean them up and see if they are worth saving TBH as it's always a little bit of a gamble getting rust pre-banded steels....... Dude your bonnets closed I might put some spacers on, just old time sake Thanks HC

epic wheels, don't clean them up! Saabs up front, superstretch on the back with those, along with the old ford hubcaps! Leave the 3 spokes in the condition they're at the moment to match ;D

It would be funny to see them on it just like that, but it might a good idea to see how solid they are first for safety

Right yesterday I had some spring chopping shenanigans I got hold of some transit spring though work. I took the rear spring out of the Sierra then compared lengths and then the grinder out and started adjusting them in the photo below you can see the transit spring, sierra spring and chopped transit spring...... After a little trial and error it sat nice, low and mega stiff! After I turned my attention to the front springs, to which I had a traveller brain wave why not use the Sierra rear springs in the front as they are are a higher poundage (without going overboard) so I measure them up cut them and we ended up with this, a standard front sierra spring compared to a chopped Sierra rear spring....... Great I thought stiff and slammed ;D however due to the high poundage of the rear spring and the fact I didn't cut it enough the front still sits way to high oh well that's a job for another day. I'll post some pics of the negative rake this evening lol. It would be funny to see them on it just like that, but it might a good idea to see how solid they are first for safety Yeah need to make sure that they are structurally safe to use and hold air too. But TBH I think I'm going to use them for off-road only.

nice.. looking good.. I remember choping the rear springs on my one years ago. chopped 2 coils out the front.. it sat just right.. so I thought I would chop the same out the rear, for the same amount of drop...WRONG!!! as you well know. it does work like that with inbound springs. rear sat about 3" lower than the front!! and about 5" lower than stock!! trip to the scrappys soon got me a secound set of springs to chop!! EDIT: ment to say. i seen a set of the saab rims the other day, only these ones had more of a dish/ lip to them.. did think thay would have looked good with the rim polished.. did thay do 2 diffrent type of the same rim??

There a few different design of Saab three spokes, the 16" ones are the ones with the dish (they came in 4 and 5 stud) but the 4 stud ones fetch really strong money for an OE wheel. Some photo evidence of the lowness and highness lol....... Rear..... ....and a fail boating front...... WTF!!!!!!!! Need to remove one, maybe one and a half more coils from the front to get it even, still the spring is uncompressed when the cars jacked up so it should be easy to trim in place

Got a parcel this morning, thanks to Gearoil off here (thanks dude for the swift postage). Which contained a pair of 4WD front struts and front end poly bushes This means I can use my 4WD front hubs, as the 2WD hubs have a smaller diameter. I've been researching modifying the front hubs to gain more lock I originally want to get the hubs redrilled like the Sierra in this photo...... ......However my hubs are a slightly different design and there isn't a good place to drill another track rod end location. So it seems as though a lot of the Skyline and S-body owners get "cut and shut knuckles" which involves cutting and rewelding the track rod end location. The next photo shows a pair of S13 hubs which have had this done..... I guess I could achieve the same result with a Sierra knuckle? By removing the material between the red lines..... My only consideration is safety and getting it welded properly, as welding large lumps of cast iron seems to be a bit of a pain. What's people opinions?

they should be forged not cast... so will weld fine... however simply because of the forces in this area and the fact that its a part of car that safety should be the highest priority... make sure it is done properly.. it should be done by a time served welder who is capable and experienced in this type of repair or modification.. i would sugest they are sand blasted fully clean "vee'd" out fully pre-heated and welded either by arc or tig... i wouldnt trust mig in this situation maybe synergic but even so.... and also if you have a spare its also good to weld one as a test piece and destruction test it.. if you have any probs with finding someone to weld it i will do it for you.. i have done simular many times including welding up holes in hubs for 5 to 4 stud conversions and things like welding up broken gearbox internals and drive shafts etc all used in verious forms of racing.. so I'm used to that kind of thing.. and..... why are those bandeds not fitted yet? ?? si

don't just butt weld them together, I would 1/2 each end overlap them and weld all around.
EDIT:
Just read B8D's reply and sounds alot better! deffently will be doing this to mine soon as I need some extra lock for the twin drift battles at the next buxton event ;D

I know nothing about the set up on Sierras but how come it's not possible to do the same thing as the picture you posted and drill a hole further down? Maybe with the exception of removing what looks like some sort of ridge down the middle. Just curious more than anything PS loving the plans with the green 3 spokes and trim by the way - hope this plan goes into action! ;D

Believe me cutting and welding hubs is not some thing I take lightly, my main consideration is making sure it's done properly. I had kinds guessed it would not to suitable to get them MIG'd up. I was thinking about contacting a local fabrication specialist who welded up a cracked forged wheel for a mate of mine. Like I said safety is the number one factor so I don't mind paying to get it done properly.
Si I will pm you later, as I'm not 100% sure what you mean.
I'll post a pic showing why redrilling would be unsuitable later, the hubs in that picture are Granada ones which again are a slightly different design.

Small update. Went and picked up a lovely Cosworth fibre glass replica bumper with....... wait for it......... Laguna splitter! Mmmmmm Badly moulded and cracked ;D Finally adjusted the ride height at the front to bring it in line with the back. The car now sits nicely and the ride is really firm, but not mega bouncy which is what I was hopeing for so I'm pretty happy. Just need to get my hand on some second hand Konis to give some kind of matching damping to my stiffer springs. I had planned to not fit the bumper until I had sprayed it the same as the bottoms of the doors, but I got impatient and fitted it anyway. My mate who lent a hand with todays shenanigans, said it "looks like a body kit warriors car" great! Anyway I quite like it so there . Next step is to sort out the diff, it is still distinctly open and I need to do some skids soon or I'm going to lose my mind.
