I'm contemplating trying the drain and refill with diff oil method for some shocks I need stiffening, might we worth a go if you've got some spares kicking around! I've been meaning to try this for a long time too. You could try double shocks too, but that would probably mean rebuilding the shock towers. I did it with my Volvo 360 shocks however it was much easier as they where wet inserts. I used ep80 gear oil it made them a good deal stiffer. I seem to remember Ian (aka Bias) did it with the dampers on his Mirca, iirc he drilled a little hole drained them out, threaded the hole and stuck a bolt in it once they where refilled.

Would a set of granny (estate perhaps?) rear shocks fit as I recon they'd be a good bit stiffer to cope with the extra weight?

Just checked at work the part no. for the Sierra and Granada are different, so it's a possibility thats worth looking into. Good call mate Got some new handle bars ;D bargain Mountney nos boss for £10 delivered and a second hand 12" Mountney wheel picked up for £10. Much better than the foam standard one!

As some of you well know a few years back I owned another Sierra a 2.0 Pinto one, which I had planned to turbocharge I got 90% of the bits. Then I fell out of love with the car after a stupid crash, broke the car for spares and sold all the turbo bits. Needless to say I regretted it ever since The thread of my previous Sierra for anyone who's interested.... retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=36359Anyway a few nights ago I got an excited call from a good friend of mine saying that a guy we knew had come across some twink turbo bits, and would I be interested ;D So I went to look at the bits last night and a small some of cash exchanged hands for a exhaust manifold, turbo, oil feeds and a few other items......... Okay it looks like a massive pile of curse word, granted. The guy who made the manifold works at a Breakers yard and only fabricated it to see if it would work because he had a Sierra twink laying around. I've been assured by a few people who saw the car that it ran well and didn't go too badly either. Hopefully I can get the turbo fitted and working in the next couple of months......... the last thing I want to do is have it sat around for a year like I did with the last one!

Not putting a dampener on things mate but that turbo looks canny small (off a diesel??), especially for a 2.0 lump. Might be worth finding a half decent t25 or small t3.

Not putting a dampener on things mate but that turbo looks canny small (off a diesel??), especially for a 2.0 lump. Might be worth finding a half decent t25 or small t3. The part numbers off the turbo are 49169-01201 which according to the Turbo Dynamics website is a Mitsubishi TC06 turbo off a petrol 1.8/2.0 Galant, so it should flow well enough for my 2.0. Diamention wise the turbo is a similar size to the one a mate of mine used to run on his twink turbo, I'm sure that was a T25. TBH I'm not after mega powers, one cause the I don't want to kill the engine and secondly cause I don't want lag. I want to use the car for skidding so ideally I want a small turbo putting out 6-7 psi nice and unstressed, I don't want all or nothing at 5,000+ RPM. The standard twinks are meant to be circa 125bhp so I reckon it should see close to 160bhp at 6psi with a decent intercooler, exhaust and some extra fuel That's the plan anyway.

Been doing quite a bit of research into the boosted side of things, i've managed to source a 5th injector driver for circa £130 which should meet basic fuel requirements for the turbo conversion. I can't imagine that the Turbo Technics conversion used a much more complicated method of enriching the fuel. Found this though which makes for interesting reading......... Given the boost levels quoted (which I want to mimic as closely as possible to start with) I reckon it might be a tad optimistic to expect my engine to make over the 160bhp mark, but it would be nice to get close Interesting to see that TT didn't mess with ignition timing. I plan to run a pretty lairy exhaust, exiting somewhere near the front of the car

Been thinking for a while how to increase caster angle on the Sierra without going to the expense of buying compression struts. The usual cheap method on the Sierra is to use extra washers behind the arb to tca bush to push the arm forward, however there is only so much thread on the arb before you cant get the nut safely on the end. So I ended up with help from Rtlkyuubi, Hardcore and Colon using A52 facilities to fabricate a simple spacer to push the arb forward (and unfortunately down at the same time)....... .....it seems to have made a bit of difference and hopefully with the addition of a washer on the arb/tca it should be even better. Also the previous owner of the turbo conversion had managed to snap the thread on oil pressure t-piece inside the block of his engine god knows how! Anyway a new t-piece turned up this morning at work

Picked up a cheap Recaro out of my mates Glanza (think it's originally a Misubishi Evo seat)..... So out came the standard Sierra arm chair..... I chopped up the standard Sierra seat mount and welded on the remains of the Glanza seat mount to the top..... Then bolted it in to the car with the harness.... Awesomes ;D

I was thinking the other day mate, about the rough edges inside the manifold, I coul have turned the tig welder up to nuclear spec and fusin welded all the rough edges, would makethe airflow alot cleaner. too late now though ! Oh well doesn't matter now, I've started attacking it with a file to smooth it off a bit looking good matey!! Really need to get mine drift spec again, only got a welder atm, still need to manualise it and slam it lol Also wanna trade bonnets? lol Yes Ryan, yes you do! As for the bonnets you want a saff one don't you? Mine got damaged when I spanked the wing so I threw it away. My MF2 injector controller finally arrived, the loom was a total mess so I've cut it right back to start again. Exciting The actual driver/controller..... One thing I hadn't bargained for is the extra box I've got with it the MF2 on it's own can run up to 4 high-impedance injectors or 2 low-impedance injectors. The stuff I've bought seems to come with an extra box that is able to piggy back another 4 injectors off the normal MF2. The car it came off was running 6 extra injectors!!!!! The guy I bought it off said it was fitted to a Mitsubishi of some description. Weird! I'm planning to use a single "yellow" cosworth injector. It should fuel enough for an additional 70bhp (more than I'm looking for) if my maths is right.

Nice work squire Extra free box looks fun, when's it all going on then? (Imagine how quickly you could empty the tank if you ran all the injectors!)

Realistically it's going to be October at the earliest. Although the MOT is in November so I might leave it, until after then just because I know it's going to need a fair amount of welding and other bits and pieces to pass! I really want to see it through this time, after the last time

I've been given some yellow weber injectors off a standard Sierra Cosworth, a set of 4 will safely fuel a Sierra to 280bhp. So if I use a single yellow it should provide sufficient fuel for an extra 70bhp, seeing as I'm only aiming for an extra 50bhp it should be fine. An exciting photo of said injector! I made a start on the pipe to mount the injector in and also have a take off for the idle control valve. I've used a section of 70mm mild steel exhaust tube this matches the size of the standard throttle body (I plan to use smaller diameter pipe for the rest of pipe to keep lag to a minimum) Jubilee clip to provide a nice straight edge to cut against.... Chopped.... Offered up...... Looks like the easiest way to run the pipe work is going to be down the right hand side of the engine bay, then use a twin/double pass intercooler.
